The Bible reading
Psalm 101
The study opened with an introduction to Psalm 101, framing it as King David's declaration of his intent to rule according to God's moral laws. The net control noted that while the psalm addresses civil authority, its principles apply to all levels of governance, including the church, the home, and the individual. David expressed a determination to exclude wicked advisors and citizens, seeking instead to surround himself with faithful and godly men.
Insights
- The 'unexamined life' is contrasted with David's purposeful approach, suggesting that intentional reflection on one's goals and actions is essential for a meaningful Christian life.
- The concept of 'four governments' (personal, family, church, civil) illustrates that the Ten Commandments and biblical standards apply equally to all spheres of authority.
- Roger's analogy of the will as 'ropes of sand' highlights the futility of relying on self-discipline alone without the transformative power of the Holy Spirit.
- The study emphasized that 'walking in a perfect way' does not mean moral perfection but rather walking in the ways of God, which is the standard for choosing companions and advisors.
- The power of visual images is acknowledged as a significant factor in shaping thought and behavior, necessitating a deliberate filter on media consumption.
- The contrast between verses 5 and 6 serves as a practical guide for social interaction: cutting off those who slander and seeking out those who are faithful.
- The study reinforced that while humans are not fit to rule themselves (Jeremiah 10:23), they can find direction by continually returning to the Scriptures for guidance.

4:03Much better than yesterday for the propagation.
4:06So it's a wonderful sign, and it's quite a song we've got in front of us, isn't it, Max?
4:13Yeah.
4:14Yeah, it is.

4:53All right.
4:55All right.
5:03I think we're ready to rock and roll here.
5:05This is WB7MX, net control for the West Coast Bible Study.
5:09We are in Psalm 101 today, and we're going to be studying that together.
5:14But before we get started with our psalm, we want to open in prayer.
5:18And so, Bert, W7RKD, could you please open in prayer for us today?
5:21Yes, I sure can.
5:26It's a pleasure.
5:28I threw a little fire-to-wire to help out.
5:30This is W7RKD.
5:32We're going to open our heads.
5:35Our Heavenly Father, thank you so much for this day.
5:39Thank you so much for this Bible study.
5:43Thank you for departing your word upon us today.
5:45And that may each and every individual word that comes from you helps us through our day
5:52and become better fishermen and men.
5:55And that we may be the best emissaries or ambassadors of Christ to those lost,
6:02so we can bring them home to you or at least help guide them to you, Father.
6:07We can't do enough or say any more except thank you so much for your grace and mercy.
6:15And may it be upon everybody today, after the Bible study and during.
6:21In Jesus Christ's holy name we pray.
6:23Amen.
6:25Amen.
6:25Thank you so much for that.
6:27I appreciate that, Bert, a lot.
6:29Okay, we're in Psalm 101 today.
6:31And before we read that psalm, I want to talk a little bit about the framework and background to this psalm.
6:37You know, Romans 13 makes it clear that civil authorities are supposed to enforce God's moral laws in the society over which they rule.
6:50And King David was well aware of this responsibility that as a king, he did not have a free hand to do as he wished.
7:00He was to rule as God told him to rule in God's word.
7:05And so he was to deal with the righteous in the land and the wicked in the land as God directed him.
7:11And so what we have here in Psalm 101 is the king, that is King David, expressing to the Lord what his purpose of heart is regarding evildoers in the land of Israel.
7:26And he's determined that he will have no wicked advisors to counsel him as king.
7:33Instead, he's only going to have faithful and godly men in his cabinet and service.
7:38And then he's determined that he'll have no wicked citizens in his kingdom.
7:43And instead, he's going to root them out and destroy them.
7:46So what we have in our psalm is an expression of the proper attitude that a civil ruler should have in creating a righteous rule.
7:57David understands that as king, he's a minister of God in the civil realm who is to reward good and punish evil.
8:06And what he's saying in this psalm is that is exactly what he intends to do.
8:13And, of course, David, as we know, is a foreshadowing of our Lord Jesus.
8:18And we read about Jesus' kingdom, that a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of his kingdom.
8:24And so, Jesus, of course, is the ultimate king who rules with ultimate righteousness.
8:33And David is echoing and reflecting that.
8:36In 2 Samuel 23 and verse 3, it says,
8:39He that rules over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.
8:45And this was God's message to David through Samuel.
8:50And this was the standard by which David sought to rule over Israel.
8:56Well, would to God that our civil authorities in our day had such an attitude and such a perspective.
9:03In fact, they are held to the standard.
9:05And they will be judged according to the standard by God and will not go well for many of them.
9:12So that, then, is a little introduction to our psalm.
9:17And Joe, K-I-6-W-X-T, is going to read for us this morning.
9:21Joe, go ahead and read for us, please, Psalm 101.
9:26I will sing of mercy and judgment unto thee, O Lord, will I sing.
9:33I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way, O, and wilt thou come unto me?
9:41I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.
9:45I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes.
9:49I hate the work of them that turn aside.
9:54It shall not cleave to me.
9:56A forward heart shall depart from me.
10:00I will not know a wicked person.
10:03Who so privily slandereth his neighbors,
10:06Him will I cut off.
10:09Him that hath in high look in a proud heart will not I suffer.
10:15Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land,
10:20that they may dwell with me.
10:24He that walketh in perfect way, he shall serve me.
10:29He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house.
10:32He that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.
10:38I will early destroy all the wicked of the land,
10:42that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the Lord.
10:46All right, real good, Joe.
10:50KI-6 WXP, appreciate that reading.
10:53Excellent job.
10:54All right, any comments on our SOM?
10:57Please come now with your call, buddy.
10:58WB-7 Visa now?
11:07Roger, please go ahead.
11:09I was impressed.
11:10I read it from the NIV a couple of times before,
11:16and I have the NASB.
11:17It sure communicates that David, by his will,
11:26at times not God's will,
11:30but his will was to set the standard high,
11:35as you said, Max,
11:37and then also make sure that he personally is in line
11:47and in resonance with that.
11:50The verse,
11:53I will set no worthless thing before my eyes.
11:59In verse 3,
12:01I like NIV better than worthless thing,
12:05but I think it was evil.
12:07And when I think of all the drama
12:11that's portrayed on television
12:15and on the Internet in people's homes,
12:19my, what a criteria for all of us.
12:24And David said his court would not do that for him.
12:31And, of course, that was not 100% fulfilled,
12:36but we all have fallen
12:39and come short of the glory of God,
12:42including David.
12:44Over.
12:45Yeah, well said.
12:46It says in the King James,
12:48which is what Joe was reading to us out of,
12:51it says in verse 3,
12:52I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes.
12:55And, you know, you're right.
12:57That's the standard.
12:58We want to come in line with that standard.
13:02And there is an awful lot of wicked visual images that are out there
13:06that are available for us to look at
13:09and to see
13:11and to be subverted by.
13:14And so we have to be very careful about what we view
13:18and about what we allow to come into the eye gate
13:22and because those things are powerful.
13:27I mean, the reason why the Bible uses a lot of verbal visual images
13:32is because it recognizes the power of visual images.
13:35And, of course, when we have actual visual images,
13:40those things can really influence how we think
13:43and what we think
13:44and the direction our lives go in.
13:47So the idea here is that
13:49there's supposed to be a filter between us and the world.
13:52And we don't let just anything from the world
13:54come through that filter.
13:56And so we have to close out things
13:57that would lead us away from God,
14:00both as to what we hear
14:01and also and especially as to what we see.
14:04And so this is a great standard
14:07for all of us to have for our own lives.
14:09I will set no wicked thing before my eyes.
14:12I hate the work of them that turn aside.
14:15It shall not cleave to me.
14:17So there's lots of folks out there
14:19who have turned aside from the Lord.
14:21They're presenting lots of ideas to our ears
14:24and images to our eyes
14:26that are contrary to the will and the ways of the Lord.
14:28And we've got to just shut that off
14:30and not listen to that,
14:32be that music,
14:34be that entertainment,
14:36be that movies or whatever.
14:42We have to regulate all of that
14:45and put it through a filter.
14:46Roger, great comment.
14:48Then I would like to acknowledge Peter, KJ7BA.
14:50Peter, see you there on the Utah SDR.
14:53Thanks for being there with us.
14:55All right, any other comments on our passage today?
14:57Please come down and call, son.
14:59Okay, I'm fine.
15:00Okay, we had a double there.
15:02First KM5S and then Bert.
15:05KM5S, Will, go ahead first.
15:07Yeah, I look at this in a couple different versions
15:10when I'm reading it.
15:11In the NLP, each verse starts with,
15:15I will, except verse 8.
15:18I mean, verse 1, it says,
15:21I will sing, I will praise,
15:22I will be careful,
15:24I will lead,
15:25I will refuse,
15:26I will have nothing to do with them,
15:28I will reject,
15:29I will tolerate,
15:31I will search,
15:32I will not allow deceivers.
15:34KM5S.
15:35Yes, thank you for pointing that out.
15:38The phrase, I will,
15:39I will occurs over and over and over and over again
15:42in this passage.
15:43And here's a man who is self-consciously setting standards for himself.
15:50And here's a man who's determining to take specific courses of action
15:54with reference to specific issues that are before him
15:59and that he's going to face and deal with.
16:01And so the point is,
16:03is that we're not supposed to just drift through life
16:05and let life determine what is going to happen to us.
16:11But rather we need to stride purposefully through life.
16:16Like a man on a mission
16:17who is determined as to what he's going to do
16:22and he's not going to let the world or the flesh or the devil subvert him
16:26and tell him what to do.
16:30So, Will, thanks for pointing that out.
16:32I will do this.
16:34I will not do that.
16:37And so here's a man with a clear standard.
16:38Here's a man with a clear set of goals.
16:43And here's a man who is self-consciously ordering his life
16:47according to those things.
16:49And so, you know, someone once said
16:52the unexamined life is not worth living.
16:56And what they meant by that is that drifting through life
16:59without thinking and reflecting on what you're doing,
17:03why you're doing it,
17:04and what the outcome is going to be
17:05is really to live a very foolish and useless and worthless life.
17:10And in contrast to that,
17:12here's our man David
17:13living a very purposeful,
17:17thoughtful,
17:18considered life and course of action.
17:22And so we need to be running our life
17:26thoughtfully and according to God's standards
17:29and with specific goals in mind
17:31and not just drifting through life,
17:33letting the world shape us.
17:35Will, great comment.
17:36All right, that leads us then to Bert, W7RKD.
17:40Bert, you had a comment.
17:41Go ahead.
17:42You know, I hear David's plea
17:45and what he wants to be for the Lord.
17:52And that's my prayer, too.
17:55Even in my own house here,
17:58this temporary place he gave us to live.
18:03You know, I don't want that on my property.
18:08I don't want it anywhere.
18:09You know, because I forsake the world.
18:14I have to forsake everything in order,
18:16you know, I can't look behind me
18:19after I put my hand on the plow.
18:23Yeah, you know,
18:24I have to cut loose all this stuff.
18:27And I can't let it drag me down.
18:30But there's so many people,
18:31just like Max said, you know,
18:32oh, come on back in.
18:34The water's warm.
18:35I don't know how many times we've heard that.
18:37It's changed.
18:38It's better.
18:39The subversion David experienced at his time
18:46is no different than the...
18:50I don't even think it's any different
18:51in degree of the subversion
18:53that righteousness in our government
18:57is going through at this time either.
19:01There's nothing new under the sun.
19:04But all we can do is pray for his will.
19:06And try to be the best that we can be.
19:09You know, these are our yeses, our yes,
19:12and our nos, our no.
19:13W-7-R-K-A-D.
19:14Yeah, Burr, really well said.
19:17Thank you for that.
19:19You know, this psalm, of course,
19:22has been spoken by David,
19:23and he's talking about his role as king,
19:26that is, as civil authority.
19:28But, you know, all of these principles
19:30apply to other realms of authority as well.
19:34So, we have pastors leading churches.
19:37They're in a position of authority and leadership.
19:41They have to have a set of standards
19:42by which they run the institution
19:45over which they have authority and leadership.
19:49And then we have the home.
19:50And, Burr, that's where you're at.
19:53You're the authority in your home.
19:56You're exercising leadership there.
19:58These principles apply to how you run your home.
20:02And then, of course, each of us has authority
20:05over our own lives and our own heart.
20:09And we govern ourselves, if you will.
20:12So, we have personal government.
20:14We have family government.
20:16We have church government.
20:17And we have civil government.
20:18Those are the four governments.
20:20And the Ten Commandments speaks to all four
20:24of those governments.
20:25And so, Burr, with reference to yourself
20:29as an individual man,
20:31with reference to yourself as a husband
20:33and a leader of your home,
20:35all of these principles apply equally.
20:38And, as you say, you know,
20:40our civil authority, to whom primarily is speaking,
20:44has seriously failed.
20:46And there are people who are actively working
20:48against the standards that David sets forth
20:52for what constitutes good government in a nation.
20:56And that's why we need to pray
20:58for all that are in authority,
21:00that they would have this as their standard
21:03and that they would do the right thing.
21:05And as we see them doing the wrong thing,
21:08we recognize that, number one,
21:09they're going to have to answer to God for that.
21:11And, number two,
21:12it's going to produce really bad results.
21:16And so, number three,
21:17we need to do what we can
21:18to resist bad leadership,
21:21replace bad leadership,
21:22and have good leadership
21:24in our government,
21:26in our churches,
21:28in our homes,
21:29and, of course,
21:29we need to straighten up
21:32our own leadership
21:32in our own personal lives.
21:34So, a great comment there.
21:36Appreciate that, Bert, a lot.
21:38All right, any other comments?
21:39Please come down.
21:40All right, Peter says,
21:52good morning to everyone.
21:53Good morning to you, Peter.
21:54Appreciate that.
21:55All right, in Psalm 101,
21:57it's interesting,
21:58if you look at verse 3,
22:00it says,
22:01I will set no wicked thing
22:03before my eyes.
22:05And then, verse 4,
22:07a perverse heart
22:08shall depart from me.
22:10I will not know a wicked person.
22:13And so,
22:14the idea there is that
22:15there's evil things,
22:16and then there's evil people.
22:18And both need to be guarded against.
22:21Because both have
22:22a powerful influence on us.
22:25And so,
22:26we need to recognize
22:27and ask ourselves,
22:28okay,
22:29with reference to all these things,
22:30that are in my life,
22:32how are they influencing me?
22:35These items?
22:36Or these individuals?
22:39What is
22:40the influence they're having?
22:42If it's good,
22:44then we want more of that
22:45thing or that person.
22:47And if it's bad,
22:48then we need to filter that out
22:50and separate from
22:52those influences.
22:55So,
22:55here we are,
22:56going through life,
22:57and we are being influenced.
22:59The only question is,
23:01is how.
23:02And by what,
23:04and by who,
23:05and what's the nature of that,
23:07and how is it going to help us,
23:09or hinder us,
23:11in our walk with God.
23:13So,
23:13taking inventory of your environment,
23:16and what's going on in that environment,
23:19is huge.
23:20in terms of
23:21helping us
23:22make better choices,
23:25have better outcomes,
23:26and be a better witness
23:27and servant
23:28to Jesus Christ.
23:30All right,
23:30any other comments
23:31on our passage?
23:32Please come now.
23:32WB7VZL.
23:48Roger,
23:48please go ahead.
23:51Yes,
23:52the emphasis
23:53on the will
23:54is
23:55fine
23:57as far as it goes.
23:59Great goals.
24:01But unfortunately,
24:04because of sin,
24:05our will,
24:07and what we try to will,
24:09those promises
24:10are like ropes of sand.
24:14They are,
24:17it's just,
24:19because of our nature,
24:22we have to have
24:23a rebirth.
24:25and
24:26that
24:27defective will
24:30has to be replaced
24:32with a will
24:34from the Holy Spirit
24:36from Heaven.
24:37And I,
24:38you can
24:39legislate,
24:41you can make
24:42all these
24:43declarations,
24:45and that's the challenge
24:46that,
24:47of course,
24:48Geneva
24:49had.
24:51Geneva was run
24:53by John Calvin
24:55and his
24:56leadership team
24:58very much
24:58like this
24:59psalm.
25:01But,
25:02it,
25:02it just
25:03was dealing
25:04with
25:04such defective
25:06human beings.
25:08And it's
25:09similar to
25:10why the
25:12old covenant,
25:14they made
25:15a will,
25:16so to speak.
25:17They said,
25:17all that
25:18the Lord
25:19says
25:20we
25:21will
25:22obey.
25:24Well,
25:25they had
25:27a will,
25:28but
25:28they failed,
25:30as Hebrews
25:31chapter 3
25:32says,
25:33because of
25:34unbelief.
25:36And,
25:36they didn't
25:37grasp that
25:38there had
25:39to be
25:40a heavenly
25:41power
25:43to change
25:45the
25:46defective
25:46will.
25:48This is
25:48WB7
25:49Visa
25:49L.
25:51Roger,
25:51really well
25:52said.
25:53You know,
25:54like you
25:54said,
25:54we can
25:55have a
25:55standard,
25:56and we
25:56say,
25:56you know,
25:57that's the
25:58standard I
25:58want to
25:58live by,
25:59but then
25:59we have
26:00the trouble
26:00of actually
26:01choosing that
26:02each time
26:03when it
26:04happens in
26:05our lives.
26:06And,
26:06that's why
26:07we need
26:08regeneration.
26:09You know,
26:09we need
26:09that old
26:10nature,
26:11that is
26:12an enmity
26:12against God
26:13and not
26:14subject to
26:14the law
26:15of God,
26:15neither
26:15indeed can
26:16it be,
26:16as Romans
26:178,
26:177 says.
26:19And we
26:19need to be
26:20given a
26:20new nature
26:21that now
26:22delights in
26:23the law
26:23of God
26:23after the
26:24inward man
26:25and wants
26:26to obey
26:28and follow.
26:29Of course,
26:29it even
26:30still has to
26:31do battle
26:32with the
26:33flesh.
26:34The flesh
26:34lusts against
26:35the spirit
26:36and the spirit
26:37against the
26:37flesh.
26:38Those two
26:39are contrary
26:40one to the
26:40other,
26:41so you're not
26:41able to do
26:42the things you
26:42want to do.
26:43what you
26:44want to do
26:45is you
26:45want to
26:45never sin
26:46again.
26:46What you
26:47want to
26:47do is
26:47perfectly
26:48obey God
26:49every single
26:50time without
26:50fail,
26:52but you're
26:52not able to
26:52do that
26:53because we
26:53still have
26:54the flesh
26:55that is
26:56fighting against
26:56that new
26:57nature that
26:58delights in
26:58the law of
26:59God after
26:59the inward
27:00man.
27:01And so
27:01you have
27:02prayed many
27:03times,
27:04Roger,
27:04and I've
27:05really appreciated
27:05that prayer,
27:06Lord,
27:07take our
27:08defective
27:09wills and
27:10return them
27:10back to us
27:11cleansed and
27:12purified.
27:14And that
27:14is an echo
27:15of Philippians
27:18chapter 2
27:19and verse
27:2213 where
27:25it says,
27:27well,
27:28verse 12
27:29says,
27:29Work out
27:30your salvation
27:31with fear and
27:32trembling,
27:32verse 13,
27:33for is God
27:34which works
27:35in you both
27:36to will and
27:38to do after
27:39his good
27:39pleasure.
27:40So even
27:41after we
27:41get the
27:41new nature,
27:42we still
27:42need God
27:43to work
27:43on our
27:44will so
27:46that we
27:47will do
27:48his good
27:50pleasure.
27:52And,
27:52you know,
27:53when I think
27:53about my
27:54will,
27:55Roger,
27:56what my
27:56will chooses
27:57is what my
27:59mind sees
28:00as reasonable
28:01and my
28:03affections see
28:04as desirable.
28:06And so I
28:07find that one
28:08of the ways
28:08to help me
28:09make better
28:10choices is
28:12to inform
28:12my mind
28:13with all
28:14the reasons
28:15why I
28:17should try
28:17to do
28:18the right
28:19thing.
28:20And that
28:21information comes
28:22from the
28:23scriptures.
28:24I learn
28:24biblical
28:25principles
28:26and
28:28examples
28:30in my
28:31mind as
28:32to why I
28:33should do
28:33the right
28:33thing.
28:34and then
28:35train my
28:35affections
28:36to love
28:37the right
28:38things and
28:39to find
28:39delight in
28:40those right
28:41things.
28:42And so if my
28:43mind sees
28:43something as
28:44reasonable and
28:44my will and
28:45my affections
28:46see it as
28:46desirable,
28:47that's what my
28:47will is going
28:48to choose.
28:49So informing
28:51the mind,
28:52training the
28:52affections to
28:53delight in
28:54God and
28:55understand his
28:56will.
28:57And then
28:57secondly,
28:58do what this
28:58passage says,
28:59pray.
29:00Pray that
29:01God will
29:02take my
29:03defective will
29:04and return
29:04it back to
29:06me,
29:06cleansed and
29:07purified.
29:08I love your
29:08analogy that
29:09our will is
29:10like a rope
29:10of sand.
29:12It so
29:13easily
29:13chooses the
29:15wrong.
29:16And so that's
29:17why we have
29:17to guard our
29:17hearts with
29:18all diligence
29:19because out
29:19of it are
29:20the issues
29:21of life.
29:23And so we
29:24know that God
29:24works in us
29:25to will and
29:26to do of
29:26his good
29:27pleasure,
29:28and so we
29:28pray.
29:29God,
29:30work in me,
29:31work in my
29:31will so that
29:33I will choose
29:33and in my
29:35choices so that
29:36I will do
29:37the right thing.
29:39So yes,
29:40it's one thing
29:40to say I
29:41will,
29:41it's another
29:41thing to
29:42actually carry
29:42through and
29:43do it,
29:43right?
29:44And that's
29:45where prayer
29:45and constantly
29:47saturating our
29:48mind and our
29:49emotions in
29:50the things of
29:50God so that
29:51they are
29:52properly informed
29:53to guide our
29:55choices.
29:56All right,
29:56other comments,
29:57please come
29:58now.
29:59WB7VZL.
30:07Roger,
30:08WB7VZL.
30:09Go ahead.
30:10Thank you so
30:11much for
30:12highlighting
30:13Philippians 2.13.
30:15And that's
30:16right after
30:17the cross
30:19experience.
30:20And that's
30:22the follow-up
30:23of Jesus
30:24emptying
30:25himself.
30:27And that
30:29is,
30:30really,
30:31the cross
30:31is the
30:32only,
30:32only way
30:36that we
30:36can be
30:38moved by
30:39the Holy
30:39Spirit and
30:40fall in love
30:41with Jesus
30:42because of
30:44the Holy
30:44Spirit.
30:45and that
30:48just a few
30:50verses past
30:50that very
30:52famous
30:53description of
30:56what Jesus
30:56did for us.
30:58And thank you
30:59for sharing
31:00that.
31:00Over.
31:01All right,
31:01real good,
31:02Roger.
31:02Thank you for
31:03reinforcing that
31:04passage in
31:06Philippians 2
31:07and verse 13.
31:08All right,
31:09any other
31:09comments on our
31:10passage in
31:11Psalm 101.
31:13Please come
31:13now at your
31:14call sign.
31:29All right,
31:30while you're
31:30thinking,
31:31this is WB7MAX
31:32net control for
31:33the West Coast
31:34Bible study.
31:35Look at the
31:36contrast between
31:37verses 5 and
31:386.
31:40Verse 5 says,
31:41whoever privately
31:42slanders his
31:43neighbor,
31:45him will I
31:46cut off.
31:47Him that has
31:48a high look
31:49and a proud
31:49heart,
31:50will I not
31:51suffer.
31:52So there's
31:53the kind of
31:53people you
31:54want to
31:54avoid.
31:56You know,
31:57efficient gossip
31:58is an evil
32:00thing where
32:01people go
32:02around tearing
32:03other people
32:03down by
32:05telling lies
32:06about what
32:07they did or
32:08about what
32:08they said or
32:09about who
32:10they are.
32:11And boy,
32:12we need to
32:13be super
32:13careful about
32:14listening to
32:15people who
32:17are telling
32:17negative things
32:18about other
32:19people when
32:20we don't know
32:21the whole story
32:22ourselves or we
32:23don't know all
32:24the facts about
32:25it.
32:26But then in
32:27contrast to this
32:28person who
32:28proudly goes
32:30around putting
32:30other people
32:31down,
32:32described in
32:33verse 5,
32:35notice verse
32:356.
32:37It says,
32:37my eyes
32:38shall be
32:38upon the
32:39faithful
32:39land that
32:41they may
32:42dwell with
32:43me.
32:44He that
32:45walks in a
32:45perfect way,
32:46he shall
32:46serve me.
32:48And the idea
32:48of walking in
32:49a perfect way
32:49isn't being
32:50morally perfect.
32:51Nobody is.
32:52Okay?
32:52But the idea
32:53that he walks
32:54in the ways
32:55of God.
32:56And so
32:57selecting your
32:58friends and
32:59your advisors
33:00and those you
33:02listen to,
33:03that's one of
33:03these filters that
33:05you need to put
33:05up in your
33:05life.
33:06You don't
33:07just absorb
33:08anything and
33:09everything that
33:10anybody happens
33:11to say to
33:11you about
33:13other people
33:14especially.
33:16And, you
33:17know, I've
33:17been around
33:17long enough
33:18to where I
33:20know there's
33:20always, always
33:22another side to
33:23the story.
33:24If you're just
33:25hearing one
33:25side, you've
33:26got to reserve
33:27judgment, not
33:29jump to
33:29conclusions, and
33:31say, okay,
33:32I heard you,
33:34but I'm going
33:34to find out
33:35what the
33:35other side
33:36of the story
33:36is, and
33:37then I'll
33:38draw some
33:38conclusions
33:39about what
33:39I should
33:40do, if
33:40anything, in
33:42relationship to
33:43this situation.
33:45And then, you
33:46know, surround
33:47yourself with
33:48people of good
33:48character, you
33:50know, of
33:50people who
33:50are circumspect
33:52in what they
33:53say and in
33:55how they
33:55behave.
33:57The Bible
33:57tells us that
33:58he walks
33:59with wise men
34:00shall be wise,
34:00but a companion
34:01of fools will
34:02be destroyed.
34:02And someone
34:04is known by
34:05the company
34:05they keep.
34:06And if you
34:07see that
34:08somebody is
34:08surrounding
34:08themselves with
34:09ungodly folks
34:11who are
34:11unfaithful and
34:13who are
34:13liars, boy,
34:15that's not a
34:16good recommendation.
34:18So, anyway,
34:19those two
34:19verses are
34:21really important.
34:22All right, I
34:23have a comment
34:25here from
34:25Daryl, WB7AOT,
34:28by way of text
34:29message.
34:29He says,
34:31Hi, Max,
34:32our discussion
34:32this morning
34:33reminds me of
34:34a beautiful
34:34hymn.
34:35Take my life
34:36and let it
34:37be consecrated
34:38Lord to
34:39thee.
34:40Take my
34:40moments and
34:41my days,
34:42let them
34:42flow in
34:43endless praise.
34:44Let them
34:45flow in
34:46endless praise.
34:47Daryl, WB7AOT,
34:50thank you for
34:50sharing the
34:51words of that
34:52hymn.
34:52That is a
34:53wonderful prayer.
34:55And just as an
34:56aside, you know,
34:57it's a really good
34:58thing to grab a
34:59hymnal, open it
35:00up, and just
35:00read the words.
35:01Don't worry about
35:02singing the music.
35:03The words
35:04oftentimes form
35:06great prayers,
35:07or they express
35:08sound biblical
35:09truth, and it's
35:12just a source of
35:12encouragement and
35:13exhortation like
35:14Daryl, WB7AOT,
35:17just shared with
35:17us.
35:17Daryl, thank you
35:18for that.
35:19I really appreciate
35:20that a lot.
35:21Okay, any other
35:22comments?
35:23Please come down
35:24with your call
35:24side.
35:28WB7AOT, I
35:43wanted to
35:43respond.
35:44Roger, please
35:45go ahead.
35:46Yeah, that was
35:48beautiful.
35:49I'm so glad that
35:51Daryl took the
35:53time to write
35:54out some of
35:55those words of
35:56that famous
35:57old hymn.
36:00And as you
36:00say, it is
36:02dehydrated
36:04scripture.
36:05Over.
36:06Yeah, yeah,
36:07dehydrated
36:08scripture that you
36:09add the water of
36:10meditation to it
36:11and expands to
36:12fill you with a
36:13good, full,
36:14spiritual meal and
36:16great encouragement
36:17and guidance.
36:19You know,
36:19Roger, there's a
36:20verse in, I
36:21think it's
36:21Jeremiah 10.
36:23It says,
36:23O Lord, I
36:24know the way
36:24of man is
36:25not in himself.
36:26It is not in
36:27man to direct
36:28his steps.
36:30And what's being
36:32said there is
36:32that we are not
36:33fit to rule
36:34ourselves.
36:36And, you know,
36:37the world will
36:38say to you,
36:39you know, oh,
36:40you know, you
36:40need to follow
36:41your heart.
36:42I know you
36:43need to follow
36:44the scriptures.
36:45The heart is
36:45deceitful and it
36:47will lead you
36:48astray.
36:48But the
36:50scriptures never
36:50will.
36:52And so that's
36:53why we have to
36:53continually go back
36:55to the word of
36:55God again and
36:56again and again
36:57and again to
36:58provide us with
36:59that perspective
37:00and that set of
37:01principles and
37:03that guidance to
37:04help us know
37:05what to do in
37:07any situation.
37:09You know,
37:09Jesus said in
37:10Matthew 4 and
37:11verse 4,
37:11man shall not
37:12live by bread
37:12alone but by
37:13every word that
37:14proceeds out of
37:15the mouth of
37:16God.
37:16So that's why
37:17you need to
37:17meditate in a day
37:18and night.
37:19So it guides
37:21us.
37:22You know,
37:22when it says,
37:23oh,
37:23Lord,
37:24I know the
37:24way of man
37:24is not in
37:25himself,
37:26we could also
37:26say, oh,
37:27Lord,
37:27I know the
37:27way of man
37:28is in the
37:29scriptures.
37:30It is in
37:30the scriptures
37:31that he finds
37:33direction for
37:34his feet.
37:35So, yeah,
37:37that's why we
37:38can't trust
37:38ourselves to
37:40the law and
37:41to the testimony.
37:42We speak
37:43according to
37:43that word because
37:44that's where the
37:45light is at.
37:47All right,
37:48great comment.
37:48Any other
37:49comments,
37:49please come
37:50down.
38:05All right,
38:06WB7MAX here.
38:07While you're
38:08thinking, you
38:09know, this
38:09psalm talks a lot
38:10about liars.
38:11For example,
38:13verse 7,
38:14he that works
38:15deceit,
38:16deceit is lying,
38:18he that works
38:18deceit shall not
38:19dwell within my
38:21house, he that
38:21tell of lies
38:22shall not
38:24tarry in my
38:25sight.
38:26And, you know,
38:27there's a very
38:27sobering verse in
38:29Revelation chapter
38:3021 and verse 8
38:31where it says,
38:33all liars shall
38:34have their part in
38:34the lake which
38:35burns with fire.
38:37And, you know,
38:39this world is
38:39filled with lies.
38:41Satan, of course,
38:42is the father of
38:43lies.
38:43He caused the
38:44fall by telling
38:45a lie in the
38:46Garden of Eden
38:47to Eve, and
38:48then she passed
38:49that lie on to
38:50Adam.
38:52And, you know,
38:53lying has been
38:53the pervasive
38:54characteristic of
38:57the ungodly
38:58from the
38:59beginning.
39:00And so,
39:01two things.
39:02Number one,
39:03we need to be
39:04aware that a lot
39:06of what we hear
39:06are lies.
39:07and so we
39:09need to not
39:09just take
39:10everything and
39:11everyone at
39:11face value.
39:12Just because it
39:13was said doesn't
39:14mean it's
39:15necessarily true.
39:17We have to
39:17reserve judgment
39:18often until we
39:19gather more
39:20information and
39:21we can be sure
39:22that what we're
39:24understanding and
39:25what we're
39:25articulating is in
39:26fact the truth.
39:27We don't want to
39:28be purveyors of
39:29lies by passing
39:30along things that
39:31aren't true.
39:32And, you
39:34know, that's
39:34why you have to
39:35be swift to
39:36hear and slow
39:36to speak.
39:39And so many
39:39people are happy
39:41and quick to
39:42pass along an
39:43evil report or,
39:45you know, say
39:47things that just
39:49simply aren't
39:50true.
39:51So, God is a
39:52God of truth.
39:52Jesus says, I
39:53am the way, the
39:54truth, and the
39:55life.
39:56And so let's be
39:56scrupulous as
39:58believers about
39:59telling the truth.
40:00And if you
40:01can't tell the
40:02truth, then
40:03don't say
40:04anything.
40:05It's better to
40:05be silent than
40:07to speak a lie.
40:09So, once again,
40:11the importance of
40:13civil government
40:14authorities telling
40:15the truth, we
40:16know how that
40:17goes, don't we?
40:19There's so many
40:20lies and so much
40:21propaganda out
40:22there that it
40:22just boggles your
40:24mind.
40:25But God knows
40:26the truth, and it
40:27says in Romans
40:27chapter 2 that
40:28God's judgment is
40:29according to
40:30truth.
40:31And that's
40:31where the
40:32comfort comes,
40:32that in the
40:33end, all the
40:33lies will be
40:34exposed.
40:35The truth will
40:36be vindicated and
40:37declared.
40:39And all those
40:40who lived in a
40:41refuge of lies,
40:44they'll all be
40:45swept away.
40:46And the truth
40:48alone will prevail
40:49and stand.
40:50So, let's be
40:51people who are
40:52committed to
40:52learning the
40:53truth from the
40:54scriptures, telling
40:56the truth to
40:56others, and
40:58repudiating anything
40:59that's contrary
41:00to the truth.
41:02All right, other
41:03comments on our
41:04passage, please
41:04come now.
41:11Definitely be some
41:12of these at all.
41:13Roger, go ahead.
41:14Yeah.
41:14I waited for anybody
41:17else, but it
41:19seems like a lot
41:20of interesting
41:21companion passages
41:23and verses are in
41:25Psalm 32 in his
41:27great repentance.
41:30And he says in
41:33verse 2, 32 verse 2,
41:36similar to our verse
41:37that you highlighted,
41:38how blessed is the
41:40man to whom the
41:41Lord does not
41:42impute iniquity and
41:45in whose spirit there
41:47is no deceit.
41:50And when I was
41:52visiting a lady that
41:53was quite respected
41:55about taking young
41:58gang members that
42:00were desiring or
42:03having to change
42:04for that matter
42:05because of their
42:07problems and
42:08juvenile delinquency.
42:10And that's the
42:11very first principle
42:14that she taught
42:16them, that lying
42:18is not the way
42:21to operate
42:24lies.
42:25So that has
42:27stuck with me.
42:29Lying can be
42:31addictive, or at
42:32least a habit, if
42:34it's not quelled
42:35when kids are
42:37small.
42:38And so that is
42:40a big thing that
42:43this lady highlighted.
42:44And of course, in
42:45a sense, the 12-step
42:46program, you know,
42:49basically they learn
42:50not to blame others
42:51for what they have
42:53done or passing
42:54the blame, but
42:56asking for that
42:58higher power.
43:00WB7VZL?
43:01Yeah, Roger,
43:03thanks for pointing
43:04that out and
43:05reinforcing the
43:05concept there with
43:06Psalm 32 and
43:07verse 2.
43:09You know, the
43:11blessed man is the
43:12one who does not
43:13lie.
43:13And you're right,
43:14lying starts with
43:15children.
43:16You know, the
43:16wicked go astray
43:17as soon as they
43:17be born speaking
43:18lies.
43:20And so lying is
43:22inherent in our
43:23fallen natures.
43:24And as parents and
43:25as grandparents, we
43:26need to especially
43:27teach young children
43:28not to lie.
43:30And if they do
43:30lie, they need to
43:31be punished for
43:32that and taught
43:35in no uncertain
43:35terms that you
43:36don't ever lie
43:38about this or that
43:39because it's hard
43:41to discipline children
43:42and, you know, if
43:43there's some deceit
43:44going on there,
43:45that they just
43:46pretend like you
43:47didn't see it or
43:47overlook it, that's
43:50something that we've
43:50got to really deal
43:52very strongly and
43:53faithfully with.
43:55You know, in the
43:56book of Titus,
43:57chapter 1 and verse
43:582, it says that we
43:59have the hope of
44:00eternal life, which
44:01God, who cannot
44:03lie, promised before
44:05the world began.
44:07Aren't you glad that
44:08God doesn't lie and
44:09that when he promises
44:10us things, he always
44:12keeps his word?
44:13In fact, he says,
44:14God is not a man
44:15that he should lie,
44:16neither the son of
44:16man that he should
44:18repent.
44:19Has he not promised
44:19and shall he not do
44:21it?
44:21Has he not said and
44:22shall he not make it
44:23good?
44:24And so, if our God
44:25never lies and we're
44:27to be imitators of
44:28God, as his dear
44:30children should be,
44:31then we shouldn't
44:32ever lie either.
44:34And we see that in
44:36the ninth commandment,
44:37thou shall not bear
44:38false witness.
44:40And so, this business
44:41of lying is something
44:43that David is acutely
44:44aware of in Psalm 101.
44:47And he doesn't want to
44:48tell lies and he
44:49doesn't want to be
44:49around those who are
44:50telling lies.
44:52And so, we want to
44:53surround ourselves
44:54with people who are
44:55committed to learning
44:57the truth and telling
44:59the truth and then
45:00being truth-tellers
45:01ourselves.
45:03All right.
45:04Well, we are out of
45:05time.
45:05We need to go to
45:06prayer.
45:07Jerry, AE7ER, is
45:09going to lead us in
45:09prayer.
45:10And I trust that Al,
45:13KJ7Q28, sent him
45:15the prayer requests
45:15and he has them.
45:17Are there any final
45:19prayer requests?
45:20That anybody wants
45:21to bring to our
45:22attention before we
45:22go to prayer, please
45:24come down with your
45:24call time.
45:31All right.
45:32We're hearing nothing.

45:35you please close in
45:36prayer for us?

53:12to me.
53:16I'm stuck on you?
53:17I came up with, I'm really stuck on you.
53:21Anybody else?
53:22Yeah, Jeff, AK-60K got it.
53:25I'm really stuck on you.
53:27That's a good one.
53:28All right, go ahead.
53:30But that's not the answer.
53:32Okay, what is the answer?
53:34I find you very attractive.
53:39I find you very attractive.
53:40That's good.

53:42I appreciate that, Beck.

53:45All right, anyone else?
53:46Go ahead.
53:46Hey, I'm sorry, I'm a little late.
53:53I know the study has officially ended, but I wanted to send some praises along.
54:00My oldest daughter, Kendra, who's been suffering with terrible arthritis,
54:05was able to get some medication that has helped drastically.
54:10And she even said that over the weekend that she's feeling normal again.
54:15But I keep praying for her, that this stuff tends to come, you know, in ways.
54:21And also, I wanted to tell her, Mike, FK-70, who's doing well with his family treatment.
54:30And he continually updates us on the, on the disciples' amateur radio fellowship, which is on 3940.
54:37So I wanted to pass on the call, and I appreciate it.
54:44All right, you bet, Scott.
54:45Thank you for those updates.
54:46Those are much, much appreciated.
54:48And sometimes I have to chase people down to get updates on prairie quests, because they can get stale over time as events change.
54:58And the fact that you volunteered an update really means a lot to me, and I'm very grateful for that.
55:04We will adjust our prairie quests accordingly by giving some praise to God for Kendra's improvement,
55:11but also continuing to keep her on the list.
55:14And thank you for that update on Mike as well.
55:17All right, to WB7MX, standing by.
55:20Anybody want to chat?
55:21Throw out your call sign.

55:50And he was at church.
55:52So you can say he's out of the woods.
55:57He's, I guess, the answer is to prayer.
56:00Over.
56:01Real good.
56:02Thank you for that.
