The Bible reading

Psalm 102

The West Coast Bible Study group, led by WB7MX, gathered to read and discuss Psalm 102, titled "A Prayer of the Afflicted." The study highlighted the psalm's structure, which moves from a raw expression of personal suffering and isolation in the first half to a confident hope in God's eternal nature and future restoration in the second half. Participants noted the psalm's relevance to modern believers, emphasizing that while present circumstances may be difficult, future hope in God's promises provides perspective and encouragement.

Discussion focused on the vivid metaphors used by the psalmist, such as being like a pelican in the wilderness or an owl in the desert, to describe feelings of loneliness and abandonment. The group explored the concept of "honest prayer," where believers are encouraged to bring their deepest pain, doubt, and sadness directly to God without pretense. This openness was contrasted with the modern tendency toward isolation, particularly through technology, which was identified as a barrier to the human connection and fellowship that God intends for His people.

The study concluded with a reflection on the contrast between the brevity of human life and the eternity of God. Participants discussed how placing confidence in God's permanence rather than in unstable circumstances or self provides stability. The session ended with a long prayer for the specific needs of the fellowship members, including health issues, family matters, and spiritual growth, reinforcing the theme of communal support and reliance on God's mercy.

Insights

  • The psalmist's raw honesty in prayer serves as a model for believers, showing that God welcomes unmasked grief and doubt.
  • The contrast between the lengthening shadow of human life and the eternal remembrance of God's name provides a foundation for confidence.
  • The concept of "parallelism" in Hebrew poetry helps explain how the psalmist's words apply to future generations, including modern readers.
  • The study highlighted the irony of having more communication tools than ever before while experiencing greater levels of loneliness.
  • Fellowship is not just social but a spiritual necessity, as God often brings encouragement and perspective through other believers.
  • The psalm's historical context of the Babylonian exile connects the ancient hope for return to the land with the Christian hope for eternal restoration.

5:09Yes, we do, Psalm 102.
5:12So, very interesting psalm.

5:45Any other check-ins, please come now.
5:56All right, we are going to get started with the West Coast Bible Study.
5:59This is WB7MX, that control.
6:01And we are in Psalm 102 today.
6:05But before we get started with Psalm 102, we want to open a prayer and ask God's blessing
6:10and illumination on our study so that He would guide us into all truth by His Spirit.
6:17And so, Jerry, KG6J, if you could open a prayer for us this morning.
6:20Sure, appreciate that.
6:21Go ahead.
6:23Thank you, Pastor Matt.
6:24Let's bow our heads.
6:26KG6J.
6:27Let's bow our heads.
6:28Heavenly Father, our Lord and our God, thank you for this new day, and we thank you for
6:36the many blessings you showered down upon us.
6:39And many of those blessings we sometimes don't even see.
6:43We ask you to eliminate our lives, to illuminate our lives, so we might be more aware.
6:50And, Lord, as we set upon this study, we ask that you send your Holy Spirit to each and
6:57every one of us, for Pastor Matt's teachings, the contributors, and for each one of us listening,
7:03that you might open our hearts and minds to receive your word and those things that you
7:10have for each and every one of us in this today's study.
7:14And, Lord, as we also set upon the day, we ask for your protection and also your strength
7:22and guidance, so that those things that you, that we would be able to do and say, those
7:29things that would honor and glorify you.
7:32We lift all this up to you in Jesus' name.
7:35Amen.
7:37KG6J.
7:38That's Pastor Matt.
7:40All right, Jerry.
7:41KG6J, thank you so much for that prayer.
7:44Really appreciate you bringing us to the throne of grace.
7:47All right.
7:47We are in Psalm 102 today and is, as is my custom, I want to give a little background
7:53to this psalm before we plunge into the reading and discussion of it.
7:57You'll notice the title of the psalm there at the top.
7:59It says, A Prayer of the Afflicted When He is Overwhelmed and Pours Out His Complaint
8:05Before the Lord.
8:06That's a pretty good summary right there.
8:08You know, Revelation 21.4 promises us that there's coming a day when God will wipe away
8:16all tears from our eyes and tells us there's going to be no more death or sorrow or crying,
8:23nor shall there be any more pain.
8:26And so all those things are going to pass away and God's going to make all things new.
8:31But though that day will surely come, that day is not yet.
8:35And so at this present time, even though we have that blessed hope to look forward to in
8:39the future, we still labor under the effects of the curse and we still have plenty of pain
8:45and sorrow and tears and crying.
8:49And so that is what this psalmist is expressing here.
8:54He's talking about his present condition of feeling overwhelmed with trouble and disappointment
9:01and even despondency because of the hardships and because of the heartaches that he's going
9:07through in life.
9:08Now, it appears that this psalm was probably written by one of the exiles in Babylon toward
9:16the end of that 70-year captivity when the hope of returning back to the land seemed to
9:22be close because God, of course, had promised through Jeremiah it was only going to last 70
9:28years. And so he is struggling with his present condition, but when he looks away from his sorrow
9:35and to the larger purposes and promises of God and the future blessings that he has promised to him,
9:43then we see toward the end of the psalm that his spirit's revived and his heart is cheered.
9:49So the idea here in this psalm is that the present circumstances are really difficult,
9:53but future hope is bright and clear and encouraging and that's what we have to do is we have to put
10:01our struggles, our sorrows, our difficulties in perspective and recognize that we can't allow
10:10our personal sorrows and present difficulties to blind us to the larger blessings that we have
10:20of salvation, of reconciliation with God, and of course, that future hope where there will be no
10:25more sorrows and we will be with the Lord and everything will be remedied, resolved, and we will
10:33have nothing but blessing. All right, so the point is, as Christians, we don't deny we have sorrows,
10:40but we put those sorrows in the context of God's saving purposes, and as a result, those sorrows are
10:47greatly mitigated, and they are sweetened with a confident hope of deliverance from them. It's not
10:53going to keep going on like this forever. All right, with a little introduction then to our psalm,
10:59let's go ahead and read this psalm. Eric, KD7ES, if you could read for us Psalm 102. Please go ahead.
11:06Okay, thank you, Pastor Max, and good morning to everybody on the net.
11:10Reading from the New King James Version, Psalm 102.
11:16Hear my prayer, O Lord, and let my cry come to you. Do not hide your face from me in the day of my
11:27trouble. Incline your ear to me. In the day that I call, answer me speedily. For my days are consumed
11:37like smoke, and my bones are burned like a hearth. My heart is strickened and withered like grass,
11:46so that I forget to eat my bread. Because of the sound of my groaning, my bones cling to my skin.
11:57I am like a pelican of the wilderness. I am like an owl of the desert. I lie awake,
12:04and am like a sparrow, alone on the housetop. My enemies reproach me all day long. Those who deride
12:15me swear an oath against me, for I have eaten ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping.
12:25Because of your indignation and your wrath, for you have lifted me up and cast me away. My days are like
12:36a shadow that lengthens, and I wither away like grass. But you, O Lord, shall endure forever. And the
12:46remembrance of your name to all generations. You will arise and have mercy on Zion, for the time to
12:55favor her, yes, the set time has come. For your servants take pleasure in her stones, and show favor
13:03to her dust. So the nations shall fear the name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth your glory.
13:14For the Lord shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory. He shall regard the prayer of the
13:22destitute, and shall not despise their prayer. This will be written for the generation to come,
13:30that a people yet to be created, may praise the Lord. For he looked down from the height of his
13:39sanctuary. From heaven the Lord viewed the earth, to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to release
13:48those appointed to death, to declare the name of the Lord in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem.
13:57When the peoples are gathered together, and the kingdoms to serve the Lord. He weakened my strength
14:05in the way. He shortened my days. I said, O my God, do not take me away in the midst of my days.
14:16Your years, your years are throughout all generations. Of old you laid the foundation of the earth,
14:23and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you will endure forever.
14:32Yes, they will all grow old like a garment. Like a cloak, you will change them, and they will be
14:41changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end. The children of your servants
14:49will continue, and their descendants will be established before you. And that is Psalm 102,
14:58back to net, KD70ES.
15:00All right, Eric, KD70ES, great reading. Thank you for that wonderful psalm. This WB7MX,
15:08the net would like to acknowledge Carol, KK7TPO. Carol, see you there on the Utah SDR.
15:12Good to have you with us. Appreciate you being there. All right, Psalm 102. Well, we have the
15:19psalmist complaint in verses 1 to 11, and then we have the psalmist consolation in verses 12
15:27to 28. You can see that big transition right there between verse 11 and 12. All right, any
15:35comments on our psalm? Please come down with your call sign. KB7ZXN. Kevin, KB7ZXN. Go
15:42ahead. Yes, I'll get it rolling here. Yeah, good introduction, Max. You know, this psalm is
15:49really, in many ways, a template for all of us, for generations to come, to those ahead. And
15:58it is a theme that also, that the Lord will hear prayers, those that are seeking him, those
16:08that are his own. And he uses some vivid illustrations of the birds alone, the three different birds
16:17isolated, feeling alone, you know, predators out there to get them. Yet, at the same time,
16:27for every generation, including this generation and ahead, we are called to come to the Lord
16:35with our burdens and cast them upon him. We see that in James 5, 13. Yeah, we see that
16:44in 1 Peter 5 and 7. We see that in Lamentations 2, 19, just a few examples, where we have the
16:53assurance that, well, we have assurance we're going to go through troubles, but we also have
16:59the greater assurance that God hears our prayers. And what a blessing we have the almighty God
17:08creator that sometimes we can think of as so large and so powerful as we should, but never lose sight
17:20that he also is a God that personally cares for you and loves you individually as well. KB7, ZXM.
17:30ZXM.
17:34Yeah.
17:35Yeah, my SDR turned off there. Yeah, Kevin, great comment. Thank you for that. And you know,
17:42you're right. As the psalmist in verse 6 there looks at the birds, verse 6, I'm like a pelican
17:49of the wilderness. I'm like an owl of the desert. These are birds that live out there alone, seemingly,
17:57without friends, isolated. And he's saying, I feel like I'm in a wilderness and there's no one close by
18:06to help me or even care about me. And I appreciate you pointing out that vivid visual illustration of
18:16the isolation and the sense of loneliness that he has. But you're right, Kevin, cast your burden on
18:23the Lord and he will sustain you. He will never suffer the righteous to be moved. Thanks for those
18:28scripture references that you brought out there. And you know, we have to put our troubles in
18:37perspective. You know, it reminds me of the end there of 1 Corinthians 13. It says, now abide at these
18:44three, faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love. But let's talk for a second about
18:50those first two, faith and hope. Because we believe in God's promises, we have hope regarding
18:59the future and our outcomes. And even though we're down in this horrible pit and our feet are stuck in
19:06the miry clay, God's going to pull us out of that pit and he's going to set our feet upon the rock
19:11and establish our goings. And so however low down you are in your troubles and distresses, look up.
19:20However lonely you feel, God is there. And so, Kevin, I really appreciate you bringing out those
19:26concepts and encouraging us that we can have hope even in the midst of the most desperate sense of
19:34loneliness and struggles in this life. All right. Any other comments? Please come down.
19:43AK6 OK. Jeff, AK6 OK. Go ahead.
19:48Yeah, I'm reading a couple of comments here about this. Verse 1-11. This is fascinating to me.
19:54The writer described severe physical and emotional exhaustion using metaphors like bones burning in
20:03the furnace and a heart wizard like grass and isolation in a lonely desert like you just talked
20:09about. And what this is is permission to grieve. And this is this is what caught my eye. It models honest,
20:18unmasked prayer showing that believers can bring deep pain, doubt and sadness directly to God without
20:26hiding their emotions, Max.
20:29Yeah, amen, Jeff. We can be honest with God and however we're feeling, share those feelings with
20:35God in prayer. It's not like he doesn't know about it. It's not like he doesn't see it. It's not like
20:40there's any point in hiding it. You know, God is one with whom we can be completely honest. He's one with
20:46whom we can be completely open even about our deepest struggles and our most profound difficulties
20:54and even our most shameful behavior. God knows. God understands. And God is willing to hear. And not
21:02only to hear, but to lift us out of those difficulties and to give us hope and to provide us with help
21:10and to provide us with guidance and a way forward when we don't see a way forward at all. And so,
21:18yeah, the honesty, the genuineness of the openness that the psalmist has here with his situation, his
21:27emotions, his feelings, his thoughts, that's real, raw, genuine prayer. No pretense here,
21:36putting on some sort of a front of just talking to God with an open, honest heart. And you know,
21:43there's not very many people we can do that with because, you know, we really can't trust people
21:50to deal properly with us opening ourselves up and laying ourselves bare. Maybe we have one or two
21:58close friends we can do that with. But God is one with whom we can always do that. And he will not
22:09condemn us. He will hear us and he will give us hope and direction. So, Jeff, thank you for that
22:16summary of those first 11 verses there. Big encouragement there. All right. Any other comments?
22:23Please come now. KD7ES. KD7ES. All right. Go ahead. Yeah. I just, uh, what kind of stood out to me
22:34as I was reading this and, um, you know, verse 18, it says, this will be for, this will be written for
22:44the generation to come. And in this part here, it says that a people yet to be created may praise the
22:51Lord. Um, that I've, that I have a question. I would exactly, is that refer to, is that to refer
22:59to the, uh, uh, New Testament saints? Uh, is that what I'm getting to, or get, or coming to getting out of
23:07that? Uh, certainly it would include that, Eric. Uh, but verse 18, this shall be written for the
23:12generation to come and the people which shall be created shall praise the Lord. So what we have
23:19here is, is, is what's called parallelism. Okay. Where the, where the first phrase makes a statement.
23:24And then the second phrase explains, illuminates or expands on that statement. So the second phrase,
23:31the people which shall be created is just, uh, a further expansion of the first phrase,
23:37this shall be written for generations to come. So what the psalmist is doing is he's looking at
23:41his current situation and he's saying, you know, the things I'm writing down here, um, the things
23:47I'm expressing, uh, the truths I'm setting forth aren't just for me. These are things that are going
23:54to be a comfort and a hope and an encouragement to every generation that's going to be born from now
24:00into the future, uh, until the end of time. So he's conscious that number one, he's writing inspired
24:07scripture and number two, that this is going to be useful, uh, for the generations to come. I mean,
24:14Eric, here we are sitting here in what? 2026. And this was written, uh, about 3000 years earlier.
24:22And, um, as a result, um, we're benefiting from it today. So this Psalm 102 was written for
24:29our generation and, uh, we would be, uh, created. We hadn't been created yet. We hadn't been conceived
24:36yet. Uh, there's no pre-creation of the soul as some would teach. Uh, the soul is conceived and
24:44brought into existence, uh, at conception. Um, and so we were created, uh, in our mother's womb. Uh,
24:54and here we are, uh, being born and here we are benefiting from, uh, what the psalmist has to say
25:02under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit about how we should deal with our troubles and about the
25:07hope that we should have in them. Uh, back to you there, Eric, KD70S. Okay. Yeah. Copy that. That makes
25:15perfect sense, uh, how you explained that. I just kind of, I thought that was striking, you know,
25:19that, that, uh, people yet to be created. Um, uh, and now that makes sense in the, in the,
25:26in the, uh, context of what you explained. So I appreciate you, uh, uh, laying that out. Uh,
25:30this is KD70S. All right. Real good, Eric. Uh, okay. Any other comments on our song? Please come
25:35now with your call sign. All right. Well, while you're thinking this WV70, the X-Net control,
25:53I would like to comment on, uh, verse 11 and 12. And I want you to notice the contrast that's here.
26:00Verse 11, my days are like a shadow that declines. So when the sun goes down, the shadows get longer
26:07and then eventually they disappear in the darkness. Right? So, and then it says, I am withered like
26:14grass. And, uh, you know, those of you who live, uh, in climates with four seasons, uh, you know
26:21that as soon as summer hits, all that green summer grass turns brown. Uh, and so what he's talking here
26:28about how short his lifespan is, uh, elsewhere in the book of James, it says, what is our life that is
26:35even like, uh, a little puff of steam, uh, that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. Uh,
26:42but in contrast to the brevity and the shortness of our lives, uh, verse 12, but thou, O Lord,
26:50here's the contrast, the, but, but thou, O Lord shall endure forever thy remembrance unto all
26:57generations. So in contrast to the shortness and the brevity and the uncertainty of our life is the
27:03permanence, the eternality, um, of God, uh, from, from everlasting to everlasting, he is God. And so,
27:14that's where our hope and stability and confidence has to be. It can't be in ourselves, uh, because we
27:20are very temporary folk, uh, but God is permanent. He is the rock. He is the same yesterday, today,
27:26and forever. And so that's where the object of our confidence ultimately has to lie. We can't put our
27:32confidence in our circumstances. They can go from bad to worse pretty quick, as you well know. We can't
27:38put our confidence in ourselves because we're unstable. We're inconsistent and, uh, we can't
27:45even sustain our own lives. Uh, so we have to turn away from ourselves and we have to put our trust in
27:52God. And that's exactly what he's doing here. He looks at himself and he says, nope, can't trust in
27:57myself or my circumstances. And then he turns and looks at God and he says, yep, that's the person
28:02that we can trust in. That's where my confidence lies. That's where all my hope is. And he is the
28:08one who's going to sustain me, preserve me, and guide me, uh, into those green pastures and by those
28:15still waters and into the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. He's the one that's going to
28:20show me goodness and mercy all the days of my life. And then he's the one that's going to bring
28:25me into the house of the Lord forever. And so what a blessed hope there is, is we turn away from
28:31ourselves. We turn to God. We put our faith and our focus on him. All right. Any other comments,
28:37please come down with your call site.
28:38WB7 Visa now. Roger, please go ahead. Yes. Um, I unfortunately didn't ponder this before, but, uh,
29:06uh, that contrast is a wonderful contrast and it's a very hopeful contrast. And so it's like the Holy
29:18Spirit gave us courage after the loneliness of the previous 11 verses. And it is true. It seems as we
29:30go through our, uh, go through our, our lives that the level of closeness between people is rather
29:40disappointing. And there seems to be a, such a, a wall oftentimes between the intimacy that the heart
29:50desires and what is between people. And of course, the sociologists have talked about, of course,
30:01the effect of COVID on, uh, our generation, the effect of, uh, social media and the smartphone
30:11idolatry. And it's, it's, it's so focused in on self for the moment. And there's not a lot of
30:21relational closeness. And, uh, but there's, there's a lot of hope coming up that there, that this is not
30:31the end that Zion will be built up for the Lord. Verse 16 over. Yeah. Well said, Roger, um, this sense of,
30:41you know, it's funny, uh, we've got more means of communication today and we're more lonely today
30:47than we've ever been. Um, you know, I'm old enough to remember the era before, uh, smartphones or even
30:54before the internet. Right. And it used to be when people stood in a line, uh, maybe at the grocery
31:00store at the bank or whatever, they would talk to each other. And now everybody's standing there
31:06silently punching on their phones. Nobody's connecting with each other. And one of the things
31:11I have determined to do is that when I'm around people, my phone goes in my pocket. Um, and I, um,
31:18you know, try to strike up a conversation and have a human connection with, uh, strangers,
31:24uh, for a couple of reasons. One, just to let them know, Hey, I see you and you matter.
31:30And number two, to maybe open a conversation for the gospel, or maybe just provide a word of
31:37encouragement or maybe pray for someone. Um, and a lot of times you find that people are annoyed.
31:43I can't tell you how many times I've gone to visit in someone's home and they got
31:48the television running and they're watching some program. And it's like, um, they're paying
31:53more attention to the program than they are to the communication with, with myself or with others.
31:59And it's like, uh, you know, could you please turn off the television so that we can actually have a
32:04conversation? Uh, well, you know, that's been multiplied 10,000 times with cell phones.
32:10Uh, and now no one is ever without a means of achieving personal isolation. All they got to do is get
32:17out their phone and start looking at it and their conversation ends. So I think, you know,
32:24God is a great communicator, right? Uh, whenever we talk to him, we always have his full attention.
32:31And, uh, of course we need to give him our full attention when he's talking to us as we're reading
32:36the scriptures. Um, and then when we're around people, you know, we need to be able to listen to
32:42their pain, their sorrow, their difficulties, show them we care. And it's amazing how lonely
32:49people are. You know, Kevin brought out earlier that, uh, in verse six there, I'm like a pelican
32:55in the wilderness, like an owl in the desert. When you think of the wilderness in the desert,
32:59you think of very lonely places and people are very lonely. In fact, more lonely today than they've
33:04ever been. Um, and because of technology. Um, so what we need to do is, um, really work hard
33:12at making those human connections, showing some care, and maybe then we'll have people that we
33:18can share our sorrows with and others will have, uh, us who they can share their sorrows with and we
33:25can get back to that human connection instead of just relating, uh, at a distance, uh, through electronics.
33:32Roger, great comment. Thank you for bringing that out. All right. Other comments on our passage.
33:37Please come down.
33:42Now, would you be some of these at all? Roger, please go ahead.
33:45The, uh, the irony of what we're seeing is that in this huge mass of billions of people,
33:54that the drawing or the excuse that we have is that without this gift, in quotes, that we would,
34:09we would not have the opportunity to be siloed and find the few people in the world that specialize
34:19in your interest and how would you do that otherwise with massive computer assistance and the logging of
34:31every swipe that we make, from what I hear, and, uh, and categorizing us so that they know what your
34:43interests are and can, uh, uh, bring a group together in this manner. Uh, so, that's, that's the,
34:55I guess, the excuse. And, of course, that's the power of advertising as well, to, uh, market your product
35:06to those particular people and, uh, keep you on. And so the advertisers certainly like that.
35:15Is WB some of these at all?
35:17Yeah, Roger. Um, you know, you used a couple of words there. One was siloed. Um, you know,
35:23when you think of a green silo, right, it's a circular, tall building and it's filled with grain and, um,
35:28there's nothing else in there and it's isolated and all by itself and not connected with anything else.
35:34And, you know, to live in a silo of, uh, just who you are and what you are and what you've experienced
35:41and never reaching outside of that to new people, new connections, new experiences is a sad and lonely life.
35:49And, uh, so, um, you know, you also use the word echo chamber and the idea there that all we do is hear, uh,
35:57what we've already spoken, uh, just spoken back to us as the algorithm feeds us things we're already interested in.
36:04And there's nothing outside of that that we, uh, connect with.
36:08And so we just become reinforced in this little narrow world of who we are without that, um, you know, uh,
36:15mixing with, uh, other ideas, other people, other situations.
36:19Well, I, I think a huge remedy to that is to go to church, uh, in church, you know,
36:26we are interacting with people from all different walks of life, from all different circumstances,
36:32from all different levels of maturity, with all, all sorts of different, um, understandings.
36:38And, um, you know, that produces a dynamic environment in which we can learn.
36:43I, I think about how I've grown in my understanding of the Bible and my understanding of theology through the decades.
36:51It was because I talked to people who believed things I didn't believe and, uh, who had experiences that I hadn't had.
36:58And as you listen, you learn.
37:00And so there needs to be this, um, interaction, um, between people.
37:05And so this loneliness that the psalmist is complaining about here, uh, is something, uh,
37:11to certainly be lamented, but it's also something to be remedied.
37:14Uh, you know, the Bible says he that has friends must show himself friendly.
37:19And so a lot of people say, well, you know, I went to church and nobody talked to me.
37:22Well, my question is always, did you talk to somebody else, you know?
37:27And, and so you've got to be, uh, willing to take the risk of opening up and walking up to a complete stranger
37:33and say, you know, hi, my name is Max.
37:35What's your name?
37:36Uh, well, my name is Roger.
37:39Well, Roger, good to meet you.
37:40How's your week been?
37:41You know, uh, and just start a conversation.
37:45And before you know it, you know, that human connection coupled with, uh, a divine connection
37:52through fellowship with a fellow Christian, uh, starts to really open your horizons, uh,
37:57provide you with some perspective, uh, give you some hope and, and fills you with encouragement.
38:03So that's the reason why fellowship is such a huge means of grace.
38:08And one of the problems the psalmist has here is he appears that he's by himself.
38:13And so, uh, he does turn to God, which is wonderful.
38:17He reflects on the promises of God, which encourages him.
38:21But often God brings that encouragement to us through fellow believers.
38:26So let's, uh, put our phones down.
38:28Let's talk to people.
38:29Let's reach out.
38:29Let's interconnect.
38:31Let's cross pollinate.
38:32That's what we're doing here on the West Coast Bible study, right?
38:35We're all talking to each other about our struggles and we have this human connection
38:40and, uh, we're voice to voice here.
38:42And, uh, it really is a source of encouragement.
38:44Roger, thanks for pointing that out.
38:46All right.
38:47Any other comments on our psalm?
38:48Please come down.
38:49Roger, please go ahead.
39:02I'm glad you mentioned the church because I, I can take the church and replace Zion, Zion with, with the church and to see the Lord building that up with the spirit.
39:23Yeah, copy that verse 20, uh, uh, 20, 21.
39:29It says, um, well, let's start out at verse 19.
39:32Okay.
39:32For he, that is God, has looked down from the height of his sanctuary, from heaven did the Lord behold the earth, to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to loose those that are appointed to death, to declare the name of the Lord in Zion, uh, and his praise in Jerusalem.
39:49Well, we could substitute the church for those terms, right? To declare the name of the Lord in church and praise in the assembly of the believers.
39:56When, verse 22, the people are gathered together in the kingdoms to serve the Lord.
40:02And so the idea of community there is, is a huge part of gaining perspective on all those troubles that he mentioned there in verses one to 11.
40:13Um, so yeah, let's go to church.
40:15Let's connect with people.
40:16Uh, let's talk with them about the Lord.
40:19Uh, let's gain perspective through fellowship on our problems and, uh, fill, uh, ourselves and others with hope because you know what?
40:29You're not the only person that's hurting out there.
40:31A lot of other people are hurting and they need you just like you need them.
40:36And, you know, there's nothing like sharing troubles with another person to create a bond, uh, a mutual agreement to pray for each other and then asking each other how you're doing.
40:46I mean, when we have check-ins in the morning, it's like, how are you doing?
40:49You know, any prayer requests?
40:51What is that?
40:52That's saying, look, I care about you.
40:54I care about your life.
40:55I care about your situation.
40:57I want to encourage you because I know you're struggling.
40:59I'm struggling.
41:00And so, together, we'll keep, uh, encouraging each other to turn to the Lord, to walk with the Lord, to have faith in the Lord, and to learn the word of the Lord and all those promises that help us gain perspective.
41:15And, of course, the psalmist here is gaining hope from the promises of God that the time has come for Israel to be delivered out of her captivity, be brought back into the land, and have renewed blessings from God.
41:29Roger, thank you for personalizing Zion as being the church and as this individual is echoing our own words.
41:38All right, other comments.
41:39Please come now.
41:39There was a piece of some of these at all.
41:49Roger, please go ahead.
41:50Yeah, thank you for dropping in the concept that this psalm must have been extremely, uh, used, uh, used by God to encourage the, uh, in the captivity between, uh, in the Babylonian captivity especially, to hear those words.
42:14And I'm glad that you, uh, uh, put a trigger in my brain as to this could even be a kind of a prophetic tracing of that experience when they were alone and they were isolated and they were prisoners and, uh, just, uh, what they went through during this disciplinary time that the Lord allowed them to go through.
42:41So, WB 70s and all.
42:44Yeah, Roger, thank you.
42:46That's expressed in verse 13.
42:48Uh, verse 13 says,
42:49Thou shalt arise and have mercy upon Zion.
42:52Now, here it is.
42:53For the time to favor her, yea, the set time has come.
42:57And, of course, uh, we know that Jeremiah said it would be 70 years.
43:00And you see in Daniel chapter 9, Daniel recognizing the time is up and he's starting to pray.
43:05And, of course, God answers that prayer under Ezra and Nehemiah.
43:10Uh, they went back to the land.
43:12Cyrus decreed that they would, uh, return back and build, uh, the, the, the temple once again.
43:18And so, um, you know, he talks in verse 14,
43:22Thy servants take pleasure in her stones and favor the dust thereof.
43:25That is the rocks and the dirt, uh, that are in the promised land there.
43:29Because, of course, they were clear over in what is the modern day, uh, Iran or Iraq in captivity.
43:36Um, and so, anyway, verse 16,
43:39When the Lord shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory.
43:43And verse 17, here's the encouragement.
43:45He will regard the prayer of the destitute and not despise their prayer.
43:49So if you're feeling destitute, if you're feeling just lost and alone and lonely,
43:54uh, turn to the Lord, pray to the Lord.
43:57He will hear you.
43:58He will not despise your prayer.
44:00He'll not despise your condition.
44:03He won't despise your struggle.
44:05Uh, he will be glad to hear and to help, uh, because, um, he, uh, is in heaven to be sure.
44:13Uh, but he looks down and sees and comes down and cares and companies with us in our walk.
44:20And, as it were, holds us by the hand and leads us to that promised land of the new heavens and the new earth
44:27through repentance of sin and faith in Jesus and then following Jesus all the days of our life.
44:33That's where the hope lies, uh, in the midst of great difficulty and discouragement.
44:39All right, we are out of time.
44:41All right, it's time for us to go to prayer.
44:44Um, any prayer requests anybody has?
44:47I have one here, uh, Al, KJ7QQH.
44:51Um, Brian, K-A-7-Z-I-P.
44:53Uh, that's K-A-7-Z-I-P, Brian, uh, just texted me a prayer request.
44:59He said this.
45:00Hi, Max.
45:01I'm at the hospital with chest pain.
45:04Like I pulled a chest muscle or something.
45:06Would welcome prayer this morning.
45:09So, Roger, if you could pray for Brian, K-A-7-Z-I-P, uh, uh, Roger, Al, Al, KJ7QQH.
45:16If you could pray for Brian, K-A-7-Z-I-P regarding his chest pain, that there would be a clear diagnosis of what those are.
45:24And hopefully it is what he thinks, uh, which is a, uh, pulled chest muscle, but it could be something else as well.
45:31A copy there, Al?
45:37Good copy.
45:38Thanks, anyone?
45:39All right, good.
45:39All right, are there any other prayer requests anybody wants to bring to our attention before Al closes in prayer?

58:56Anybody want to chat
58:57throughout your call sign?
58:58All right, Max.
59:04How's Coeur d'Alene sounding?
59:07Coeur d'Alene sounds good.
59:08Let me turn off my radio here
59:10and turn that one on.
59:11I have it muted,
59:12but go ahead.
59:16Yeah, I'm talking
59:18through Rockman right now
59:19and I'm listening
59:21to Coeur d'Alene too.
59:21It looks like I'm about
59:2220 over in Coeur d'Alene.
59:23Yeah, copy that.
59:30You are 20 over
59:30in Coeur d'Alene
59:31and it looks like
59:32I am too.
59:34So, anyway,
59:35just connection up there.
59:36How do you hear my voice?
59:37Give me a signal report
59:38there, Jeff, please.
59:41Perfect.
59:42You're 20 over
59:43in Coeur d'Alene
59:44and you're about the same
59:45here in Rockman too.
59:46Conditions have been
59:47very good.
59:50Yeah, copy that.
59:51Conditions are really good
59:53and it was a great day today.
59:55I had a little bit
59:56of trouble hearing Jim
59:58in Zero XGI
60:00clear over there
60:01in Kansas.
60:02But other than that,
60:04yeah, things went
60:04really well today.
60:06Daryl WV7AOT said
60:07he heard me 5x9
60:09in Ham Lake, Minnesota.
60:10So, we did have
60:12some wonderful conditions
60:13today, that's for sure.
60:14Over.
60:17Yeah, isn't it nice
60:18when you get there?
60:21You hear all these signals
60:22up there nice and high.
60:24Yep, it worked out great.
60:25Well, thanks, Max.
60:27I'm going to go to work.
60:28I think there's things
60:29to do here.
60:31WV7MX from AK-60K
60:33in Rockland.
60:34All right, Jeff.
60:37AK-60K, you have a great day.
60:39So, I had a patty for us
60:40and Pat Bear,
60:42the prayer dog on the head
60:43for us
60:44and you have a great day.
60:46All right, WV7MX
60:47is clear of
60:49Jeff, AK-60K.
60:53Anybody else want to chat?
60:54Please come down.
60:55KG-60K.
60:59Word from Brother Beck
61:00today.
61:02Okay, we got KG-60K.
61:04Brother Beck
61:05is not here today.
61:06I don't know
61:06what's going on
61:07with him,
61:07but Jerry,
61:08KG-60K, go ahead.
61:10Well, there I go,
61:12stumbling with Al.
61:13I left you, Al.
61:16This morning
61:17was a perfect example.
61:18I have noticed
61:19that Jeff
61:20and also Steve YSI
61:23when he's on his home station.
61:25They sometimes hear things
61:26better than me down here.
61:28So, I'm sure glad
61:29that Jeff was there
61:30to pick up that relay.
61:32I just caught a piece of it,
61:34the N-0,
61:35and I don't think
61:36he was responding back to you
61:37because you were asking
61:39for an N-10.
61:42And so,
61:43that's why I try
61:45and stay out of the way
61:46unless I'm sure.
61:49Yeah, copy that.
61:50Yeah, if you're not sure,
61:52then there's no point
61:53in offering a relay.
61:55It just adds
61:56to the confusion.
61:58But, in any event,
62:00the thing of it is, Jerry,
62:01is that you and Al
62:02are great minds
62:04think alike, right?
62:05So, that's why
62:06you both key up
62:06at the same time.
62:08That's funny.
62:10Al, KJ-7 QQH,
62:12go ahead.
62:16That is, really.
62:18crazy how he just
62:19managed to do that.
62:21And I just wanted
62:22to throw out
62:23an additional prayer
62:24for Jerry
62:25and his physical therapy
62:26today.
62:27We'll be with you
62:28and we hopefully
62:30get good results
62:32on that.
62:33And we'll wait
62:34for your report
62:34tomorrow
62:35for an update.
62:36Over.
62:38Thank you so much.
62:40Let me see
62:40if I've got this.
62:43Yep, I do.
62:44So, I wanted
62:46to add a little bit,
62:47not for a prayer request,
62:49but just a praise report.
62:51I think I mentioned
62:52it after last week's
62:53appointment.
62:54This physical therapist
62:55is going to address
62:57multiple issues
62:58for me.
62:59Pastor Max,
63:00I've never sent you
63:01that email
63:01and we certainly
63:03don't have time
63:03to go through
63:04it all now,
63:05but I have
63:07severe balance issues
63:09due to nerve damage
63:11in my inner ears
63:12from the
63:13autoimmune condition.
63:15So, he's going
63:17to give me
63:17physical therapy
63:19for the full picture
63:20of what's going
63:21on with me.
63:22And that's why
63:23he wants me
63:23to see him.
63:24He's the lead therapist.
63:26And so,
63:27it's just a blessing
63:28that he's going
63:30to address everything.
63:31I'm going to get
63:31counseling
63:33and exercises
63:34to improve
63:36my balance
63:37as well
63:38because I'm a full,
63:39what do you call it,
63:41a full risk.
63:43And don't leave
63:44my house very much.
63:46So, just looking
63:47forward to all
63:48of that.
63:48It's going to hurt
63:49and I'm ready for it.
63:51Anyway,
63:51I'll let you both
63:52get on with your day
63:53as I've got to
63:54turn around
63:54and get to work
63:55to pushing you
63:57close and anyone
63:57else listening
63:58a very blessed day.
64:00KG6J
64:01and I'll say
64:0173 and thanks
64:03so much.
64:04All right, Jerry.
64:05KG6J, 73 to you.
64:06Have a great day
64:07and Lord bless you
64:08as you do your work.
64:09Understand about
64:10the balance issues
64:11from the inner ear
64:12due to autoimmune disease
64:13and so glad
64:15that not only
64:16is your back
64:16going to be addressed
64:17but also
64:18your balance issues.
64:20So, copy all, Jerry.
64:21Good copy
64:21and we'll modify
64:22the prayer list
64:23accordingly
64:24and appreciate you
64:25being there.
64:26All right,
64:26that's Jerry
64:27KG6J, 173.
64:29I'm in conversation
64:30with Al, KJ7QQH.
64:32Anybody else
64:33want to chat
64:33throughout your call sign?
64:39QQH for Jerry.
64:40I'm sure
64:41that you'll be
64:41healed
64:42and doing
64:43backflips
64:44and cartwheels
64:45again.
64:45through my
64:492, 3, 3, 3, 4, 5,
64:52and the
