Psalm 109
The study focused on Psalm 109, identified as an imprecatory psalm where the psalmist calls for God's judgment against those who have betrayed him. Pastor Max explained that David expresses outrage at the injustice of being repaid with hatred for his love, a theme that prophetically points to Jesus Christ and the betrayal by Judas Iscariot. The psalm is viewed as a messianic prayer where the suffering servant asks God to execute justice on his behalf, highlighting that great sins bring great judgments.
Insights
- God is both a God of love and a God of justice; praying for judgment is a legitimate expression of faith when faced with severe, unrepentant evil.
- There is a significant difference between the ignorance of the soldiers at the cross and the willful, knowing betrayal of Judas, which affects the nature of the judgment required.
- The prayers for judgment in Psalm 109 are ultimately fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ, who bore the punishment for sin in our place.
- The contrast between Peter and Judas illustrates that true repentance leads to restoration, while despair and continued rebellion lead to destruction.
- Praying for God's justice serves to restrain further evil, witness to God's character, and encourage suffering saints.
- The psalm highlights the importance of trusting God's timing and method for justice, as human vengeance is often disproportionate or ineffective.

4:53Any last-minute check-in?
4:55Come now.
4:55All right, so we're going to get started with the West Coast Bible study.
5:03We're in Psalm 109.
5:05And before we get started, we're going to open our Bible study in prayer.
5:09So, Ed, in 6XOH, could you please open in prayer for us today?
5:13Sure.
5:14Let us pray.
5:15Dear Heavenly Father, we just come to you this morning.
5:17We ask that you watch over each and every one of us, that you bless this Bible study that we're about to start.
5:26Just ask that you put your Holy Spirit in each one of us here that's listening, that's participating, Lord.
5:33Just ask that you guide each one of us into your Word, that you help us to glean all the things that we can use to make our lives better,
5:43that we have a closer walk than you, Lord Jesus.
5:46We just ask, Lord, that you continue to bless this Bible study.
5:52I just ask a blessing on Pastor Max that he leads out.
5:56I just ask that you give him the wisdom and understanding and the words to present this Bible study to each of us,
6:05that we all can gain a blessing from it, that we'll be able to learn and be able to take and use throughout our day and our week, Lord.
6:13Watch over each one of us, and most of all, help us all to be ready when you come to take us home.
6:20I pray in Jesus' name.
6:22Amen.
6:2210-6-X-O-H
6:24Amen.
6:25Ed, thank you so much for that prayer.
6:27Sure, appreciate that.
6:28Well, we're in Psalm 109, as is my custom.
6:30I'm going to give a little introduction, and then we will talk about the psalm.
6:34This is one of the so-called imprecatory psalms, where the psalmist is asking for God's judgment upon others for the evil that they have done.
6:47Now, in this psalm, Psalm 109, David feels a sense of outraged justice.
6:56He's been very good to the people that he speaks of in this psalm.
7:02And in fact, in verses 4 and 5, he declares he had loved these people, and he says it twice.
7:09He also says that he had done them good.
7:12But in spite of being loving toward these people, and in spite of doing them good, they had been anything but loving and good to him.
7:21In fact, they had returned great evil for the good he did to them, and they returned hatred for his love.
7:30And so they had not merely been indifferent toward him.
7:33They had been actively hateful, openly hostile, and aggressive in their enmity and adversity against him.
7:43So what we have here in this psalm is betrayal at the deepest level, and it was injustice to the worst sort.
7:51And so what David is doing is he's taking this injustice, he's bringing it before the Lord,
7:57and he's asking the Lord to deal with that and to give him justice.
8:01There's two possible situations in David's life which could have triggered such a prayer.
8:08One is when he was being pursued by Saul, and Doeg betrayed him and stirred up Saul against him.
8:16The other possible situation is when Absalom overthrew David, and Ahimeon fell, betrayed him and counseled his destruction.
8:26And so David has suffered some really severe betrayal by these people and by this person.
8:38So in verses 1 to 5, he talks about a group of people, and then in verses 6 to 18, he focuses on a particular individual.
8:46Now, it's important for us to understand that as a prophet, David spoke not just about himself and his current situation,
8:56though he was certainly speaking about that, but he's also speaking prophetically here of the Lord Jesus Christ.
9:05And this psalm, verse 8 of this psalm, is quoted by Peter in Acts 1 and verse 20 and applied to Judas Iscariot.
9:17And so for that reason, this psalm has been called the Iscariotic psalm.
9:23And Judas Iscariot, the betrayer of the son of David, Jesus Christ, is seen to be the individual spoken of here in verses 6 to 20.
9:33And so, therefore, this psalm is seen as a messianic psalm, a prayer of Christ regarding his enemies, the Pharisees and the Sadducees in general,
9:45but regarding Judas Iscariot in particular.
9:49Now, it could be that Jesus prayed this psalm in the Garden of Gethsemane or when he was being abused at his Jewish trials.
9:57But nevertheless, the language in this psalm is the language of the suffering servant of God, whether David or Jesus, or us,
10:08asking God the Father to carry out justice on his behalf.
10:13And so, here we have a prophetic foreshadowing of the words of Matthew 26, 24, when Jesus says,
10:24Woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed.
10:27It were good for that man had he never been born.
10:30And so, seen in that light, the judgments that are requested in this psalm are not at all disproportionate or excessive
10:39in comparison to the level of evil and betrayal that Judas carried out against Christ.
10:47And so, great sins bring great judgments, and defiance in the face of tender entreaties and love from Christ
10:53can only result in very horrifying consequences.
10:57Well, lots more could be said, but that's enough to get the framework for our psalm.
11:04And we are going to now read this psalm, and as we read it, understand it in light of what Judas did to Jesus
11:12and what others had done to David.
11:15And, of course, I know that some of us on this net have been horrifically betrayed
11:20by those who should have protected us and cared for us.
11:24And so, that pain is echoed in this psalm.
11:30All right, Steve, W6YSI, please read Psalm 109 for us.
11:37Okay, Psalm 109, and I'll be reading again from the New American Standard.
11:42Oh, God of my praise, do not be silent.
11:48For they have opened the wicked and deceitful mouth against me.
11:54They have spoken against me with a lying tongue.
11:58They have also surrounded me with words of hatred and fought against me without cause.
12:03In return for my love, they act as my accusers.
12:10But I am in prayer.
12:13Thus they have repaid me evil for good and hatred for my love.
12:19Verse 6.
12:21Point a wicked man over him.
12:23Let an accurser stand at his right hand.
12:27Accuser, excuse me.
12:29At his right hand.
12:31When he is judged, let him come forth guilty.
12:35Let his prayer become sin.
12:38Let his days be few.
12:41Let another seek his office.
12:44Let his children be fatherless.
12:47Let his wife a widow.
12:49Let his children wander about and beg.
12:52And let them seek sustenance far from their ruined home.
12:58Let the creditor seize all that he has.
13:01And let strangers wander the product of labor.
13:08Let there be none to extend loving kindness to him.
13:12Or any to be gracious to his fatherless children.
13:18Let his posterity be cut off.
13:20The following generation let their name be blotted out.
13:26Verse 14.
13:29Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord.
13:34And do not let the sin of his mother be blotted out.
13:38Let them be before the Lord continually, that he may cut off their memory from the earth.
13:43Because he did not remember to show loving kindness.
13:48But persecuted the afflicted and needy man.
13:52And the despondent and the despondent in his heart with them to death.
13:58He also loved cursing.
14:01So it came to him.
14:02And he did not delight in blessing.
14:05So it was far from him.
14:07But he clothed himself with cursing as with his garment.
14:10And it entered into his body like water.
14:14It was like oil into his bones.
14:19Let it be to him as a garment with which he covers himself.
14:24And for a belt with which he constantly girds himself.
14:30Let this be the reward of my accusers from the Lord.
14:35And of those who speak evil against my soul.
14:40Verse 21.
14:40Thou, O God, the Lord, deal kindly with me for thy name's sake.
14:48Because thy loving kindness is good.
14:50Deliver me.
14:51For I am afflicted and needy.
14:54And my heart is wounded within me.
14:58I am passing like a shadow when it lengthens.
15:01I am shaken off like the locust.
15:04But my knees are weak from fasting.
15:08And my flesh has grown lean without fatness.
15:12I also have become a reproach to them.
15:15When they see me, they wag their head.
15:19Help me, O Lord, my God.
15:22Save me according to thy loving kindness.
15:25And let them know that this is thy hand.
15:29Our Lord has done it.
15:32Let them curse.
15:34But do thou bless.
15:37When they arise, they shall be ashamed.
15:40Thy servants shall be glad.
15:43Let my accusers be clothed with dishonor.
15:48Let them cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe.
15:54With my mouth, I will give thanks abundantly to the Lord.
15:59And in the midst of many, I will praise him.
16:04For he stands at the right hand of the needy.
16:08Save him and those who judge his soul.
16:11For the reading of God's word, W6YSI.
16:15Steve, thank you so much for the reading of that word.
16:19The net would like to acknowledge JR, K6LBP, and also Dave, KE7WKI.
16:25Thank you guys for checking in there on the Utah SDR.
16:29All right, WB7MAX here.
16:32Steve just read to us Psalm 109.
16:35Any comments on Psalm 109?
16:37Please come now with your call sign.
16:40KB7ZXN.
16:41Kevin, KB7ZXN.
16:42Please go ahead.
16:45Yeah, wonderful reading of the psalm there, Steve.
16:48Thank you for that.
16:50And good introduction as well.
16:52Max covered some important ground here.
16:56This is somewhat of a different kind of psalm.
17:01And I think just two quick points.
17:04First one is just in the very beginning here.
17:08To the God I praise.
17:10It's no doubt who David is praying to, who David has been in fellowship with.
17:18To God of my praise.
17:20And so I just wanted to not go skip by that too fast.
17:27We pray to a God that does here.
17:30But this is, you know, a psalm of betrayal.
17:35And a psalm of calling God to judge, as you point out, Max.
17:41And we see also this, you know, one thing that stood out right away here is, you know,
17:47surround me with those that, with words of hatred.
17:52And, you know, this is really, and war against me without a cause.
18:06They come against me without a cause.
18:08This is really connected to Psalm 35, 19.
18:11But it establishes the principle, the same theological principle that we see in Christ as he speaks,
18:19John 15, verse 25, which is quoting Psalm 69, verse 4.
18:27So this is the same theological principle there.
18:30That's trying to be with those that would say words of hatred and attack me without a cause.
18:37And so, again, this is pointing to the betrayal of Christ.
18:43Yes, verse 8 is specifically toward Judas.
18:48But this psalm is, I think, even a little broader than that.
18:51Those that would hate Jesus without a cause.
18:55You know, it's hard for us to imagine sometimes why, you know, we talk about evil return for good.
19:01And we've experienced all some sort of level of betrayal in our life from people that is hurt that we've maybe, you know, done good for and it's been returned with evil.
19:14But this is at a whole different level here.
19:17But it does.
19:19It's a typological psalm looking forward to Christ.
19:23In the betrayal he suffered, not only from those that put him through the mock trials, if you will, to sentence him and execute him to the cross, but Judas himself as well.
19:40KB7 is that example.
19:44Yeah, Kevin, good comment.
19:46Thank you for that.
19:47You know, we're accustomed to praying for our enemies and asking God to save them and turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God.
20:01And so, because of that, you know, Jesus was on the cross.
20:05He prayed for the soldiers who were nailing him to the cross.
20:09He said, of them, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.
20:14And so, you know, being informed by the New Testament regarding praying for our enemies and the example of Jesus and praying for those who were at least physically harming him at that moment.
20:27And, of course, these are the same soldiers who had mocked him and put the crown of thorns on his head and, you know, beaten him with a reed and even scourged him.
20:38But, you know, when you look at what the soldiers did, they really didn't know who they were doing this to.
20:47They just thought he was another common criminal.
20:49They didn't understand who he was.
20:52But the person in this psalm understood very well who David was.
20:58And, of course, Judas understood very well who Jesus was.
21:03And so, there's a big difference between sins of ignorance and sins of willful, knowing evil.
21:13And I think we need to make that distinction, at least, in understanding these imprecatory psalms, of which there's a number.
21:21We have Psalm 7, Psalm 35, Psalm 69, our psalm today 109, Psalm 140, and Psalm 144.
21:33And so, this dimension of praying for God's judgment is certainly prominent in the Scriptures, as well as praying for God's mercy and God's forgiveness and God's salvation.
21:47So, we don't serve a one-dimensional God.
21:51Our God is a God of justice, as well as love.
21:56And there are times when we pray for the expression of that love.
22:00And there are times when we pray for the expression of that judgment because both of them are attributes of God.
22:07And both of them are exercised by God.
22:11And what we see the psalmist doing here is really not praying for vengeance.
22:17He's praying for justice.
22:19And this cry for justice is a legitimate cry.
22:22And it's one that we need to recognize as not being something that is vindictive.
22:29But, rather, these are godly prayers that are motivated by a desire for justice.
22:36All right.
22:37Good comment there, Kevin.
22:38Thank you for that.
22:39Other comments?
22:39Please come now.
22:41Mark, KJ7PVT.
22:43Mark, KJ7PVT.
22:44Please go ahead.
22:46Yes, Max.
22:47Thanks.
22:48I would add a few other imprecatory songs to your list.
22:5350Y7J's comment.
22:54These are the ones that I have.
22:56Psalm 35, 52, 55, 58, 59, 79, 109, and 139.
23:10The thing that is kind of pointed out here is, first of all, this whole thing is staggering.
23:20You think that as you read through it, it's going to let up at any point in time, and yet it doesn't.
23:25And it gets more intense.
23:29And one of the things that kind of gets pointed out here is that, you know, God says, vengeance is not as good as the Lord.
23:40And so what happens in this psalm, we see that vengeance is not placed in the hands of the psalmist here, but he places it in God.
23:53Thank you, Max.
23:57Yeah, Mark, great comment.
23:59Thank you for that.
24:00Mark pointed out there are additional imprecatory psalms in addition to the ones I listed.
24:06He listed a number of others.
24:07And, you know, he said here, which I think is a really important point.
24:12We read it in Romans 12, you know, don't return evil for evil, but rather, you know, return good for evil.
24:23He says, give place to wrath.
24:26Vengeance is mine.
24:27I will repay, saith the Lord.
24:29And so the idea here is that the psalmist, Mark was saying, has put vengeance into God's hands.
24:39He's not going to get vengeance himself.
24:42He recognizes he's not going to get vengeance from the civil authorities that have been provided to supply vengeance in this life.
24:54And so he appeals to God.
24:55And he says, Lord, you bring justice in this situation because, you know, if we go get vengeance ourselves, either we're going to get too little or we're going to get too much because we don't understand the perfect proportion of justice that sins require.
25:14And so that's why we give it into the hands of God, because we know his judgment is according to truth.
25:19It's perfect.
25:20And so, Mark, thanks for pointing out that the psalmist is asking God to give vengeance.
25:26He's not going to get it himself.
25:29And God will.
25:30God has promised.
25:31He says, I will repay.
25:34And so that's the request of this prayer that he's going to repay.
25:39Mark, good comment.
25:40Thank you for that.
25:40All right.
25:41Other comments.
25:41Please come down.
25:42Pastor Max, there was somebody else that checked in to pray for certain judgment on somebody that's trying to write a book on the occult and goes in that direction.
25:59Okay.
26:00I heard the comment about writing a book on the occult and goes in that direction.
26:04What's your call sign over?
26:06WI7J.
26:07Okay.
26:07Very good question.
26:08Thank you, Tom, for that.
26:10But, yeah, you know, Tom, what you're talking about there is someone who is an apostate.
26:16And when you look at the implications that are brought against apostates in Hebrews chapter 6, Hebrews chapter 10, elsewhere, yes, this would be an appropriate prayer to ask with reference to someone who had turned away from the Lord
26:34and, in fact, had gone to the other side and started supporting the cause of Satan.
26:40So, Tom, I think an individual like that would certainly fall into this category.
26:44Back to you there, Tom.
26:45Go ahead.
26:46Thank you very much.
26:47I haven't been praying that way for somebody that I know that he actually wrote a book, a new age book, and turned from God, and his kids, expected his kids, and they've turned away from God.
27:01And they've gone to years of theology and college level, theology and everything, and just kind of, and I have, you know, I put in God's hand, but not, you know, I'm praying for them from time to time,
27:18but I've never asked God to put his hand in judging them, and that was very good input.
27:26I want to thank you very much.
27:28I think I've been not praying aggressively enough to put that in loud, but I've got to put that in his hand to deal with it.
27:37So, anyway, thank you very much for your input.
27:39W-Y-7-J.
27:41Yeah, you bet, Tom.
27:43Thank you for that comment.
27:44Excellent comment.
27:45And, yes, certainly be appropriate to pray for God's judgment.
27:48You know, I want to spend a minute here talking about this whole issue.
27:53You know, what David asked God to do to this person in this psalm, and these people in this psalm,
28:02what David's asking God to do here seems very harsh.
28:06But we need to understand it's not more harsh than this person's sins deserve.
28:11And it's not as harsh as he and his friends are going to experience in the flames of hell for all of eternity.
28:21And so these men have done tremendous evil.
28:23They've committed great wickedness.
28:25And therefore, it's fitting to ask for great judgments and great punishments to be brought upon great wickedness.
28:33And so this man, who is the chief among them, has proven himself, and they have proven themselves, to be incorrigible.
28:46To treat David in this fashion, after all the love and goodness he had shown to them, betrays a hardness of heart and an evil of mind that is so great as to make them worthy only of judgment.
29:00And so in the face of his love and goodness to them, they have shut their eyes, closed their ears, hardened their hearts to the point that they're reprobate.
29:10And so David prays for these people.
29:16They are slated for judgment because of their sins, and David simply asks that that judgment begin now,
29:24so as to restrain and terminate any further evil they might do.
29:28And as other people see the wrath of God falling on these wicked men and their leader,
29:35they should be moved with fear, lest they experience such an end and turn from their wickedness now.
29:43Furthermore, for God to act in the manner requested would be a witness to his own character and glory as the God of justice in the eyes of a watching world.
29:52Finally, it's an encouragement to suffering saints to see their enemies dealt with by God.
29:59So they are relieved of them and suffering at their hands.
30:03So these are the reasons why David prayed the way he did.
30:07He prayed the way he did so it would stop further evil by these wicked men who are bent on doing further wickedness and evil.
30:15It restrains observers from going down that path when they see how God deals with these wicked men.
30:23It shows the world the justice of God that indeed wickedness is dealt with.
30:29And then it relieves the persecuted saints from the wickedness that's being continually done to them.
30:34So these are not prayers of vindictiveness.
30:38They're not malicious prayers.
30:40They're godly prayers because they're motivated by this desire to stop the evil that's being done,
30:46set an example to others so they don't do evil,
30:49show the justice of God in dealing with evil,
30:53and relieving the saints of God from experiencing further expressions of this evil.
30:57So this is the reason why David prays the way he does,
31:03so that this evil will stop,
31:08God's justice will be vindicated,
31:10and God's saints will be relieved from this horrible persecution that is being brought against them.
31:18All right.
31:18Any other comments?
31:20Please come now with your call sign.
31:22KJ.
31:23KB7 ZXM.
31:24Kevin, KB7 ZXM.
31:25Please go ahead.
31:27Yeah, very good comments and observations all the way around.
31:32You know, I think, too, it's important to recognize a couple things here, too.
31:37And just going back to where I started with here, too,
31:40on the surrounding me with words of hatred and fought against me without cause.
31:46And we certainly saw that with Christ.
31:49But, you know, some of those people had later repented.
31:54And, of course, God or Jesus on the cross said, you know,
31:57forgive them for they know not what they do.
31:59But we see how some of those that did surround him with words of hatred and fought against him without cause were saved.
32:11And most notably amongst those was Saul of Tarsus, as we know now as Paul.
32:19But also we see that there, too, in this, as you point out, judgment without Christ, there is certain judgment and certain destruction.
32:30And in the King James Version, there's two people identified as sons of perdition.
32:38And that simply means in the Greek to be marked for destruction.
32:42Well, those two, of course, are Judas Iscariot, as Jesus prays in his prayer in John 17, I think, verse 12.
32:53But also we see that in the end of the age here before the Lord comes.
32:59And in 2 Thessalonians 2, verse 3, there will be one mark for destruction that will be, if you will, as the Antichrist.
33:13But so there are some that will, are going to be marked.
33:19God has warned us and told us.
33:21And, of course, historically we look back and we see, okay, this is that person.
33:26Well, we can clearly see Judas here marked in, like you pointed out, verse 8.
33:33But there's one more yet to come.
33:36But overall, yes, and I think it's a wonderful point, too, because we do pray for enemies.
33:42We do pray for salvation of those that have done horrible evil.
33:46And we have examples both in Old and New Testament and throughout the history of our times and recorded that of horrible, evil men that have done horrible things,
34:02and women, I suppose, too, that have repented and received forgiveness of their sins because Jesus did pay it all.
34:15So, two that we know of are marked, though, for destruction.
34:22But beyond that, there is hope if one will repent.
34:27KB 7 is that example.
34:30Yeah, you know, and that's interesting.
34:32You know, you look at, who was it in the Old Testament?
34:36Kevin, help me out here.
34:37Was it Manasseh, the last king that was wicked for, like, 50 years, and then he got taken into captivity in Babylon, and he repented, and he was restored back to the throne, and he followed the Lord.
34:54What was that king's name?
34:55Kevin, help me out.
34:57Well, you're exactly right.
34:59That's the story of Manasseh.
35:02Yeah, I wrote a little book on that.
35:04But it, you know, one of the most evil men probably up there with Hitler and Attila the Hun and that bunch, he did horrible, horrible things, sacrificed children and his own children even.
35:17And just, but yet, he repented and received salvation.
35:23Yeah, copy that.
35:26So we've got an example of Manasseh in the Old Testament, who seemed like he was, you know, completely gone.
35:34And then we have Saul, who became the Apostle Paul in the New Testament.
35:40And both of these were actively fighting against the people of God, and yet God was pleased to save them.
35:46So, you know, on the one hand, there's always hope.
35:49And yet, on the other hand, you know, you look at, you know, really terribly wicked people, both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament,
36:00Judas among them, and of course, you know, Athaliah and the different ones in the Old Testament,
36:07Ahab, who never did get saved and were cast into perdition.
36:13And, Kevin, thank you for pointing out the coming Antichrist, you know, who would certainly fall into this mold.
36:20Tom, WY7J, brought out a person he knows who used to be a believer, and now he's gone over to the occult side and is trying to persuade people to turn away.
36:32And so, you know, these kind of prayers are certainly appropriate.
36:38And I think we can pray for God's justice to be done, either in the person or in his substitute, the Lord Jesus.
36:50You know, when we pray for people's salvation, you know, justice is still served.
36:56All the punishments described in this psalm are still carried out.
36:59They're just carried out against Jesus Christ, instead of against the individual himself.
37:07And so, God's wrath is always expressed.
37:11It's either expressed in the person or in his substitute.
37:15And when you see all the terrible things that are prayed for in this psalm 109,
37:22those are all the things that fell on the head of Jesus that we should have endured because of our sins.
37:29And yet Christ bore them in our place.
37:33So, that should humble us.
37:35It should cause us to be filled with thankfulness and amazement that such a Savior should do such a thing for such a people as we are.
37:46All right.
37:46Any other comments on our psalm?
37:48Please come down.
37:50WB7VZL.
37:51Roger, please go ahead.
37:52I think that Peter felt that acutely in the courtyard when he saw Christ's face after he had denied Christ blatantly for three times.
38:08And someone has said that we know that Christ was resurrected because Peter was elevated once again after the incredible forgiveness that you were speaking of that Jesus applied to Peter.
38:28And I find it interesting that Peter is the one that quotes this psalm.
38:36And I'm sure the Spirit of God had worked on his heart big time and recognized the forgiveness of Christ in such a vivid way that broke his heart.
38:51And I'm sure he was, as he quoted this psalm, he was with humble heart before the group that he spoke to, knowing what he had done as well.
39:06Anyway, just some of the impressions that I find it interesting that Peter was the one that quoted this portion.
39:11That WB7VZL.
39:14Yeah, Roger, great comment.
39:16The net would like to acknowledge Joe.
39:18KD7WBV from Battleground, Washington.
39:20Joe, see you there on the Utah SDR.
39:22Thank you for being there.
39:23Back to your comment, Roger.
39:25Yes.
39:26The difference between Peter and Judas is that Peter went out wet bitterly, and Judas went out and hanged himself.
39:32And so, you know, it's the nature of the incorrigible and the irredeemably wicked is that they go into despair and self-destruction.
39:45They don't repent.
39:47You know, the Bible says if we confess our sins, he'll forgive our sins.
39:50He'll cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
39:53Judas didn't choose that.
39:55He maintained his rebellion, his defiance until the end.
39:59He did not believe the promises of forgiveness.
40:03You know, it says that he repented himself and went and threw the 30 pieces of silver back in the temple, but that was not a repentance towards God.
40:13That was a, you know, I made a dumb decision here, and I regret making the decision, but there's no crying out to God for mercy.
40:21You know, there's no recognition that he needs to humble himself and seek forgiveness.
40:25Whereas Peter, he did humble himself and seek forgiveness.
40:31And Judas went away from the Lord.
40:35Peter went toward the Lord.
40:37And so, in our sin, we need to repent and turn back to the Lord instead of giving up in despair and just going on and plunging forward into further rebellion and defiance.
40:49So, not only did Judas betray Jesus, he went and then broke the Sixth Commandment.
40:56He committed murder against himself.
40:59So, he just kept going on in sin.
41:02You know, it's interesting.
41:04When Jesus was on the cross, right, he prayed, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.
41:08And he pled their ignorance as a ground of God's mercy toward them.
41:13And, of course, we know that one of those soldiers got saved, right?
41:16He said a little later on, surely this man was the Son of God.
41:21And then I was reading here in 1 Timothy about Saul of Tarsus, who became the Apostle Paul.
41:27And he says in 1 Timothy 1, in verse 13, he says,
41:31And so, you know, a lot of people are just blinded by their sin.
41:45They're blinded by Satan.
41:46They're following the lust of the flesh.
41:49And they're doing terrible things.
41:51But, you know, it's not like Saul thought he was serving God.
41:56He wasn't self-consciously shaking his fist in the face of God.
42:01Like we read about in Psalm 2.
42:05You know, these are people who were committing terrible things, but they were doing it without perhaps an awareness of the degree of the evil they were committing.
42:16And without malice toward God and toward his people.
42:21That was self-conscious.
42:22And that's a different category of person than what's being described here, where the person knows very well who they're sinning against.
42:32They know very well the sin they're committing.
42:35They know the evil that it contains.
42:37And they're doing it on purpose and intentionally.
42:40And that shows a hardness of heart and an incorrigibility that just needs to be brought to a halt with God's judgment.
42:50And that's what's being prayed for here.
42:53All right.
42:53We're just about out of time.
42:55We've got a couple of minutes.
42:56Any more comments?
42:57Please come now.
42:58Steve, W6YSI, go ahead.
43:01Yeah, just a quick one.
43:03You know, looking at what David is saying here in verses 21 through 25, basically I'll just summarize.
43:13To me, he's saying, you know, I'm wore out.
43:16I'm whooped.
43:17And, you know, I need some help.
43:20He's crying out to God.
43:21And that's the beginning of the psalm.
43:25Don't be silent.
43:26Listen to me.
43:27Hear me.
43:28And then Psalm 83, verses 1 and 2, echo the same thing, I think.
43:34I think what jumps out at me here is 26 and 27.
43:38He says it again.
43:40Help me, O Lord God.
43:41Save me according to thy loving kindness.
43:44And let them know, or another version would say, that they might know that all of this
43:50is thy hand.
43:52It's all about God.
43:54It's all part of his plan.
43:56The Lord has done it.
43:59And I think, I appreciate your comment on that there, Max.
44:04W6YSI.
44:06Yeah, Steve, well said.
44:08Thank you for pointing out verses 21 to 27.
44:11And you're exactly right.
44:12David is exhausted with the spiritual warfare.
44:17He's overwhelmed with the power of his enemies.
44:20He feels weak.
44:21He feels helpless.
44:23He feels despairing of doing anything to be able to fix this.
44:30And so he calls on God.
44:33And he says, Lord, deliver me.
44:35And, of course, you know, this is a prayer of Jesus on the cross, too.
44:39Do thou for me, O God, the Lord, for thy name's sake, because of thy mercy is good.
44:46Deliver me.
44:47I am poor and needy.
44:48My heart is wounded within me.
44:51There's a sermon there, the wounded heart of Christ.
44:54I'm gone like a shadow when it declines.
44:58I'm tossed up and down like the locust.
45:01As blown in the wind is the idea.
45:02My knees are weak through fasting.
45:05My flesh failed of fatness.
45:08I become a reproach to them.
45:09When they looked upon me, they shook their heads.
45:12Well, that's Jesus on the cross, right?
45:14Help me, O Lord.
45:16Lord, O my God, O save me according to thy mercy, that they may know that this is thy hand, and thou, Lord, has done it.
45:24And, of course, we know that the Lord did have mercy on Jesus.
45:27He raised him from the grave the third day.
45:30And as a result, all of his enemies knew that the evil they had done and how that God had exposed them
45:40and how that God had raised up his servant and given him strength.
45:45And, Steve, I can't tell you how many times as a pastor, you know, I've been in the situation where those who are fighting against the work of God seem overwhelmingly powerful.
45:55And yet God has sustained and God has restored and God has continued to give strength and victory over those who would try to destroy the ministry.
46:08So, yeah, Steve, that's where we're at.
46:11That's where Jesus was at.
46:13That's where David was at.
46:14That's where ministers of the gospel often wind up at.
46:18And so if your pastor is fighting the good fight, go over there and encourage him and tell him you stand with him and give him some support.
46:27All right, Steve, great comment.
46:29Thank you for bringing that out.
46:31Okay, we are out of time.
46:33It's time for us to go to prayer.
46:34Of course, we could talk about this a lot more.
46:39But we just need to recognize that it's appropriate to pray for God's justice to be carried out either in the person or in his substitute so that this evil comes to a halt and doesn't go on any longer.
46:55All right, any final prayer requests before Jerry leads us in prayer?
47:00Please come down with your prayer request.
47:09All right, Jerry, AE7ER, please go ahead and close in prayer for us.

56:43Let me go ahead and connect.
56:46What's the problem?
56:47What would you have to do?
56:49Two things.
56:50I had to reboot from the flex radio panel.
56:53So there was some kind of thunderstorm activity.
56:56And it disconnected to the antennas, too.
56:58So we had two things going on up there.
56:59Yeah, copy that.
57:03Just stand by one.
57:04I just shut it down.
57:05I'm going to reboot it and see if I can get connected as well.
57:12Because it's acting a little squirrely here, but then I was fired up.
57:17So I got her shut down.
57:19Let me start it up here again and see what happens.
57:21All right?
57:24Yep. Sounds good.
57:26I'm back on Rockland now.
57:27But, yeah, it's working fine now.
57:31You know how things are?
57:32We've got a lot of stuff going on up there.
57:34Oh, yeah, for sure.
57:36Yeah, when there's lightning, it's good that you've got that lockout that keeps it from, you know, going off.
57:43So, all right, just give me a second here.
57:46Anybody else want to chat?
57:47Go ahead.
57:54Yeah.
57:54It takes a minute for the Maestro to connect, but that's all it was.
58:01I don't know why it was offline, but it's back.
58:06Okay, it's showing version 4.3.16, and I think we used to use 4.2.20, right?
58:20I think it was 3.2.2, if I'm not mistaken.
58:25Yeah, don't use that new one.
58:26I've got to ask Peter if he's upgraded the radio or something.
58:30I don't think he has.
58:33Yeah, it's showing that we need to upload that.
58:36So I'm going to go back to 4.2.20, which is what we've been using.
58:41So, if he hasn't upgraded, I don't want to hit that upgrade.
58:45Over.
58:47Yeah.
58:47Yeah, just use the old one.
58:52I bet you obviously see it there.
58:55Yeah, I do.
58:56Okay, it's loading, so just give me a second.
58:58Don't you just love the Maestro?
59:04That's a cool box.
59:07Yeah, it is.
59:08Yeah, it works really well.
59:12Okay, it's loading.
59:13Let's see what we've got going here.
59:19Jeff?
59:21Yeah, go ahead.
59:22The audio on the Idaho one isn't near the quality of the one that you're talking on now.
59:31I may have to do some adjusting on Idaho, too, yeah.
59:36We'll have to get them matched up so they sound the same.
59:38And, Max, I do see you on Coeur d'Alene now.
59:44Yeah, Jeff, everything's working great now.
59:47No worries.
59:47I've heard your voice well on Coeur d'Alene.
59:50So, Beck, Alpha, Alpha, 5 Yankee, are you listening to an SDR,
60:00or what are you listening to there to pick up Coeur d'Alene?
60:03Over.
60:04I'm listening on Utah.
60:08Okay, copy that.
60:11Let me get the echo off here.
60:13Yeah, copy that, Beck.
60:14No worries.
60:15All right.
60:16It looks like I'm getting picked up real well on Coeur d'Alene as well.
60:19I got a good signal there.
60:21And I picked up Beck as well.
60:23So, yes, Jeff, everything's back online.
60:26Everything's working.
60:27Super happy.
60:28Thank you for getting that squirt away.
60:30Back over to you, Jeff.
60:33Okay, sounds good.
60:34Now, Beck, I'm going to get on Coeur d'Alene here.
60:36Hang on a second.
60:38Okay, now I'm talking to you on Coeur d'Alene.
60:41Beck, what's the difference in the audio?
60:43Okay, there's not nearly as much bottom end,
60:47and it sounds a little raspy on the tail end.
60:53Okay, I'm going to turn the mic gain down just a little bit.
60:57One, two, three.
60:58Is that any better as far as I go to the bottom end?
61:00I can pick.
61:03Okay, talk a little bit more to me.
61:05Okay, AK-6, okay.
61:09And then I'll go over and see if I can adjust the bottom end up a little bit.
61:15I don't know.
61:15It sounds to me like the raspiness is still there, but it's not as bad.
61:20And your volume has come down.
61:25You're weak on the volume part.
61:28Okay, I just turned off the processor.
61:33Did that help the raspiness?
61:41I'm not sure, to be honest with you.
61:43Try one more time.
61:45Okay.
61:46Yeah, I just turned down the processor.
61:51I wonder if that helped the raspiness.
61:55Yes, I turned up my volume so I could hear you.
61:58Okay, I'll have to do some tweaking on this.
62:02I don't get on 4-lane very often.
62:05I do want to make it set up really well so that Max can switch transmitters,
62:10if he has to switch between his transmitter and 4-lane.
62:14Even Rockman, he can get on it and you can hurry.
62:19Pastor Max, can you talk on that transmitter?
62:24Not at this point in time.
62:28I have not tuned up on that or anything,
62:32so I'm not sure I want to key up at this point in time
62:36until I've checked a couple of things.
62:38Go ahead there, Beck.
62:40Roger, okay.
62:41Yeah, the raspiness is gone now, Jeff.
62:46Okay, that's good.
62:48I'll see if I can adjust up the bottom line.
62:50Let me try that if you want.
62:52Hold on for a second.
62:53Sure, no problem.
62:55Pastor Max, by the way, I got my hearing aids yesterday,
63:13and I cannot believe how much I couldn't hear before.
63:17We walked into the hearing aid place and opened the door
63:20and went in there and talked to him, and he put our hearing aids in and adjusted them
63:24and made Sandy's hearing aids to where she could hear me better
63:29and made my hearing aids to where I could hear her better.
63:32And as we walked out the door, we opened the door, and the door went creak.
63:37It did the same thing when we walked in, but neither one of us heard it.
63:43Well, Beck, praise the Lord for that.
63:44I'm so glad that you got your hearing aids fixed up and squared away.
63:50That is wonderful.
63:52You know, to be able to hear again after all that, you know, dullness of hearing
63:58has got to be just a wonderful experience.
64:00So praise the Lord for that, Beck.
64:02So glad to hear that.
64:05And we'll just continue to pray for your double vision, that God will heal that.
64:09But in the meantime, at least we got one of those issues taken care of.
64:13Over.
64:14Oh, Roger, that.
64:15I couldn't believe it.
64:17We came home, and Abby wears a little vest and a leash,
64:24and she walked towards us, and the leash was dragging on the carpet,
64:30and I could actually hear the sound that the leash was making being dragged across the carpet,
64:35where in the past it never made a sound.
64:37It's amazing.
64:39Yeah, for sure.
64:43Well, you know, there's a lot of sounds out there.
