The Bible reading

Psalm 112

The study began with prayer updates, noting significant improvements for Kathleen Vaughn, who is now walking with a cane, and Jan Brookhart, who has returned home to Reedsport for therapy. The group then moved to the scripture reading of Psalm 112, which was introduced as a parallel to the previous day's reading of Psalm 111. While Psalm 111 focuses on the works of God, Psalm 112 focuses on the works of the righteous man, who imitates and reflects the character of God.

Insights

  • The 'echo chamber' of Scripture is evident as Psalm 112 reinforces themes found in Psalms 1, 2, and 110 regarding the contrast between the righteous and the wicked.
  • Spiritual wealth, such as the unsearchable riches of Christ, is the primary treasure of the heart, which naturally overflows into material stewardship and ministry.
  • The fear of the Lord is the soul of godliness, manifesting in a desire to meditate on and obey God's Word.
  • The righteous man's lack of fear stems from the assurance that God is in control and that his enemies are under divine restraint.
  • Material blessings are a result of living according to God's principles, but the ultimate goal is sanctification and worship rather than wealth itself.
  • The 'light in the darkness' of the upright serves as a witness to the world, pushing back the darkness of wickedness.

Transcript

0:00Daryl, WB7AOT, is going to be listening on the side from Ham Lake, Minnesota.
0:04I got you.
0:05All right.
0:05Officer Sandy, W7SAB, and Beck Alf, Alpha 5 Yankee.
0:10Good morning, Beck and Sandy.
0:11How are you guys doing?
0:13Good morning, Daryl.
0:14We're hearing you direct over here on the ocean.
0:18And, Pastor Max, we've got some praises.
0:21Kathleen Vaughn no longer uses a walker.
0:25She's on a cane.
0:26She's happy.
0:27She's doing well.
0:28Her husband is gaining better speech, and he's doing well.
0:35Nancy, across the street, is almost done with her chemo.
0:40She's going to have maybe another four or five treatments, she says now.
0:43But she's feeling well.
0:46And Jan has moved from Coos Bay to Reedsport.
0:51She's back home, and she's doing therapy here in Reedsport.
0:56Her husband is still ailing and not doing that great.
1:03But we're going to try and get him back in order with his heartbeat.
1:06And that's it.
1:08It's happy, happy, joy, joy.
1:10Roger?
1:13Well, praise the Lord for that.
1:15Can you repeat to Kathleen Vaughn?
1:18I didn't quite get over to my SDR in time to hear all of that.
1:22Repeat to Kathleen Vaughn, praise.
1:24Go ahead.
1:26Yeah, Kathleen is no longer on the walker.
1:28She's on a cane, and she is walking.
1:31And she is the one who broke her neck.
1:33She has total control of her body and is doing very well.
1:38Roger?
1:38Roger, Roger, thank you for that.
1:42Appreciate that.
1:44Al, KJ7QQH, were you able to keep up with all that over?
1:51Roger, most of it.
1:52I got to Kathleen Vaughn is getting around, walking on a cane now.
1:56And it's Jan Brookhart, because there was some mention there, and her husband, too.
2:05I didn't get all the details, though.
2:08Yeah, Jan Brookhart.
2:09Yeah, so what the deal is, is Kathleen Vaughn, who broke her neck, is walking around with a cane.
2:15She has a full charge of her body, which, praising the Lord for that.
2:20And then Jan Brookhart, a diabetic, who had some of her foot removed, she's back home now.
2:25And she's doing well also, a vast improvement there.
2:31And then, of course, her husband, Ken, is still having heartbeat issues,
2:40so we need to continue to pray with reference to his situation there.
2:44So, anyway, just positive news on all of those prayer requests.
2:49We're making progress, and we're grateful for all of that.
2:53Back to you there.
2:55Al?
2:58Okay, you and Beck doubled.
3:00But I did hear you, and I got the details, and I updated the list.
3:06Hopefully, that works so good for today.
3:12Thank you.
3:12All right, real good.
3:13Back out off of 5 Yankee.
3:14You got the mic.
3:15Straighten us out if I missed anything.
3:19Pastor Max, we were both talking at the same time.
3:21Kathleen Vaughn, thank you, Lord, for fixing her up to where she's able to walk and be mobile again and on a cane, and she's mentally happy.
3:32Thank you, Lord, for her husband being able to speak better, walking around with Kathleen and taking care of her, and they're happy.
3:41Nancy has like five or six more treatments to go, and she's probably going to be done with her chemo and everything.
3:50Hopefully, the cancer will be totally gone.
3:53They keep shrinking.
3:54Jan is living in breed support again and doing therapy.
4:02She's no longer in the hospital in Coos Bay.
4:05Her husband, Ken, still has heartbeat problems.
4:08So, praise for everything, really.
4:18Kathleen, we can sing praise for that.
4:22And for Michael, her husband, we can sing praise for that.
4:25And Nancy, she's doing great, but she's not over it yet, but she's going to be.
4:31And praise for Jan.
4:35She's home.
4:36So, I hope that got it.
4:38I'm sorry so much.
4:42No, Beck, that's real good.
4:43Thank you for that.
4:44I think Al caught up with that.
4:46Jerry, AE-70R, were you able to follow pretty much?
4:49Go ahead.
4:50Negative.
4:51I've got an electric sensor in the signal this week.
4:55Okay, no worries.
4:56We'll catch all this tomorrow, Jerry.
4:58You just go ahead and pray for what's on the list there, all right?
5:01Okay, that's Jerry, AE-70R.
5:03And he's having poor reception at his station.
5:07But Al's got it caught up on the prayer list, so we're good for that.
5:10All right.
5:11Thank you, Beck.
5:12Al Half of 580, great report.
5:14Really appreciate you updating these things.
5:16Sometimes we pray for quite a while and wonder, well, have things improved?
5:20So, anytime anybody can give us a prayer update, we really appreciate that a lot.
5:25Okay, WB7MX here, looking for check-ins.
5:28Please come now.
5:30KJ7PWM.
5:32WB7V's at L.
5:33All right, we had a double there, but I got them both.
5:35First of all, we got Brian, KJ7PWM.
5:38Brian, come back to me.
5:41Good morning.
5:41Brian, the reporting should be working this morning, by the way, and it's available on the dev site.
5:49So you can look at the transcript to go catch up on all those prayer requests.
5:54I do have a prayer request.
5:56I've got the truck idling right now, leaving for Samia, Idaho, which is about a nine-hour drive.
6:02We're on the horse trailer to go catch up with Anna and Emma.
6:07And then we will come back Monday with the horse and Anna and me.
6:13And then I also have a prayer request for Sam Hulga.
6:18He is our father-in-law.
6:21My wife's father, kind of.
6:24So that's what we call him, father-in-law.
6:26And he's father in Christ.
6:28And anyway, she has been diagnosed with kidney cancer, and he lives in Texas.
6:33And he's actually a music pastor at a Baptist church down there.
6:41So same for, and he's 80.
6:44So same for how the cancer works out with that.
6:52All right, real good.
6:53And the father-in-law's name was Kim.
6:55Is that Kilo India Mike?
6:57Over.
6:59Kilo India Mike, Kim.
7:01Copy Tango India Mike.
7:06So that's Kim.
7:07All right, so Brian, KJ7 PWM is asking prayer for Tim.
7:12His wife's dad, his father-in-law, has kidney cancer, and he's in Texas.
7:18Let's pray that that works out really well.
7:20And then Brian's got a nine-hour drive ahead of him to meet up with his wife and daughter, Emma.
7:27And then he will be coming back on Monday.
7:33So that's Brian, KJ7 PWM.
7:36Copy there, Al?
7:37I know there's been typing that test here, and I think I got it all safe traveled by the boat to see Anna and Barabos with kidney cancer.
7:56Did I get it all over?
7:57Yeah, copy that.
8:00I'll modify the prayer list as well if I see it didn't.
8:04Okay, real good.
8:05And then we had the Roger WB7VZL out there.
8:08Roger, please go ahead.
8:10Yeah, Max, I'm having a course.
8:13I need an SDR, of course, where the band is not open between us today.
8:20So I think I'll bow out today.
8:24But anyway, I just wanted to, I'll see what I can do, however, WB7VZL.
8:33Yeah, Roger, if you can hang in there, the band will improve as time goes on.
8:37So anyway, thankful for your check-in, Roger.
8:40We got you checked in.
8:41Any other check-ins, please come now.
8:43KM5F, comment?
8:48KM5F, comment, go ahead.
8:50Well, if Roger can get to the webpage, he can get to the SDRs because they're on there, KM5F.
8:59Yeah, Roger doesn't do Internet at all, so that's why he's not on SDRs and never will be over.
9:06Yeah, I guess I'm not doing Internet this morning either, so KM5F.
9:12All right, no worries on that.
9:13All right, any last-minute check-ins, please come now.
9:19All right, hearing nothing, we're going to get started with the West Coast Bible study.
9:27Appreciate all the stations who have checked in.
9:30The band conditions aren't the greatest today, but we're working with what we've got.
9:33All right, we are in Psalm 112, but before we begin our reading today, we want to open our net in prayer.
9:41Jim, in 7BKE, if you could open a prayer for us today, sure, appreciate that.
9:45Go ahead, Jim.
9:46Yeah, thank you.
9:47Father, Father, it's been another morning like we usually have.
9:52We pray that all the fellows that's on and the ladies listening in get the word deep in their heart and look forward to visiting with him every day.
10:03Now, we'll be praying for the ones, Father, that are traveling, too.
10:08Let's cover all our friends and relatives that are out there in the world that are looking for you in the near future.
10:17But first, protect us each as we're here waiting for the times that come.
10:24Be with all our loved ones, Father, make sure they're all safe this day, and be with us as we have fellowship here together.
10:30That the Lord touches the hearts of each one of us and blesses us.
10:34We give you the praise for all you do for us, and we ask these things in Jesus' name.
10:39Amen.
10:42Amen, Jim.
10:43Thank you so much for that prayer.
10:44All right, we are in Psalm 112.
10:46And before we read the psalm, I want to give a little introduction to this psalm.
10:51It's very parallel to the psalm we read yesterday, Psalm 110, or pardon me, Psalm 111.
10:58So we read Psalm 111 yesterday.
11:00We're reading Psalm 112 today.
11:03Both psalms have the same number of verses.
11:05They've both got ten verses.
11:07In both psalms, the verses themselves are all the same length.
11:12That's quite amazing.
11:13And both psalms are written in an acrostic form and order, with each verse beginning with a subsequent letter of the alphabet.
11:21And even the phraseology in these two psalms is parallel in verses 3, 4, and 8.
11:28So, obviously, Psalm 111 and Psalm 112 have the same author.
11:34Don't know who that author is, but they obviously were written as a couplet.
11:39But there's a further point of relationship between them that is most important, and that is that the focus of Psalm 111, which we looked at yesterday, is on the works of God, which are primary and perfect and exemplary.
11:55In contrast, Psalm 112 has, as its focus, the works of man, which are supposed to imitate and reflect and follow the example of the works of God.
12:08So, Psalm 111 expressed praise to God for his wonderful works.
12:15There, the focus was on God and the works that he did.
12:19But in Psalm 112, the focus is on the righteous man and what he does in imitation of God and in imitation of God's works.
12:29So, God sets the standard in Psalm 111, and the righteous man follows that standard in his behavior in Psalm 112.
12:38So, the man who knows the God of Psalm 111 is the man who is described in Psalm 112.
12:47And so, in Psalm 112, the man is described in particular as being an upright or a righteous man.
12:56And twice in this psalm, he's said to be upright, and four times he's declared to be righteous.
13:04So, Psalm 112, then, is the psalm of the righteous man, his description, his blessedness, his behavior, his strength, and then, strangely but not surprisingly, the hatred that he receives for all of that.
13:19So, the righteous man is pleasing to God.
13:22The righteous man is pleasing to other righteous men.
13:26But the righteous man is not pleasing at all to the wicked.
13:30They hate him precisely because he is righteous.
13:34And the more righteous he is, the more hated he is.
13:37Nevertheless, regardless of the hatred of the world, the righteous man still strives to live a life of righteousness out of love for God, and out of thankfulness to God, and because it brings the blessing of God in his life, and because it's a witness to the world around him.
13:55And because he lives righteously, he has blessing in his life, and blessing in the next life as well.
14:02But also, he's going to get some hatred from those who hate God.
14:06So, Psalm 112, the description of the righteous man.
14:10All right, Joe, KI6, WXP, if you could go ahead and read Psalm 112 for us, I'd appreciate that.
14:16Go ahead there, Joe.
14:18This is Joe KI6, WXP, reading Psalm 112, out of the King James Version.
14:25Praise ye, O, praise ye the Lord.
14:28Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in the commandments.
14:35His seed shall be mighty upon earth.
14:39The generation of the upright shall be blessed.
14:43Wealth and riches shall be in his house.
14:46And his righteousness endureth forever.
14:50Undo the upright, there arises light in the darkness.
14:55He is gracious and full of compassion and righteousness.
14:59A good man sheweth favor and lendeth.
15:03He will guide his affairs with discretion.
15:07Surely he shall not be moved forever.
15:11The righteousness shall be in everlasting remembrance.
15:15He shall not be afraid of evil tidings.
15:19His heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord.
15:21Verse 8.
15:23His heart is established.
15:26He shall not be afraid until he see his desire upon his enemies.
15:32He hath dispersed.
15:34He hath given to the poor.
15:36His righteousness endureth forever.
15:39His horns shall be exalted with honor.
15:43The wicked shall see it and be grieved.
15:47And shall gnash with his teeth and melt away.
15:50The desire of the wicked shall perish.
15:54GI 6 WXB
15:55Joe, excellent reading.
15:59Thank you for that.
16:00Really appreciate it.
16:01Alright, any comments on Psalm 112?
16:04Please come now with your call sign.
16:07KJ7 PBT
16:08Mark, KJ7 PBT, please go ahead.
16:13Yes, Max, as I read this, I'm thrilled by this entire thing, but I can't help but hear the echoes in the background from Psalms 1 and Psalms 2.
16:29Psalm 1 is blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
16:40But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law he meditates day and night.
16:47He shall be like the tree planted by the root of water, that bringeth forth its fruit in its season.
16:54Its leaves shall not weather, and whatsoever he does shall prosper.
16:58It echoes that, and then it changes its tune here a little bit.
17:05The ungodly are not so, but are like shafts, which the wind drives away.
17:10Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
17:17And then, of course, we could go along and read chapter 2, which is actually a messianic prophecy there as well.
17:25So we hear a lot of the same echoes as we work through the Psalms, and it's a beautiful thing to see.
17:35Back to you, Max.
17:38Yeah, Mark, great comment.
17:40Thank you for that.
17:41Mark was saying that he observed that Psalm 111 has an echo, or pardon me, Psalm 112.
17:50This is where we're at, Psalm 112, Psalm 112 has an echo in Psalm 1 and Psalm 2, and he's exactly correct.
18:00What we see in Psalm 1 and Psalm 2 are the contrast between the wicked and the righteous,
18:06between those who meditate in the scriptures in Psalm 1 versus those who do not,
18:12and those who trust in the Son of God in Psalm 2 versus those who do not.
18:18So Mark's pointing out that Psalm 112 says, here's what the righteous man is like.
18:25And in Psalm 1 and Psalm 2, it says, here's what the righteous man is like.
18:31And, of course, Psalm 112 talks about the fact that the righteous man has enemies,
18:36and Psalm 1 and Psalm 2 also talk about these enemies.
18:41So what we have and what Mark is pointing out here is that we have two kingdoms.
18:45We have the kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness, and we see the constant statement in Psalm 1 and 2,
18:53Psalm 112, and indeed throughout the book of Psalms, this contrast between the righteous man and the wicked man.
19:01And so the difference between them is, are they in the kingdom of light, are they in the kingdom of darkness,
19:07do they follow Satan or do they follow Jesus?
19:11Mark, great comment.
19:12Thank you for connecting Psalm 1 and Psalm 2 with Psalm 112.
19:17All right, any other comments?
19:19Please come now.
19:19All right, this is WB7MX, neck control for the West Coast Bible Study, not hearing anyone out there.
19:45Or Psalm 112 in verse 1, praise ye the Lord, blessed is the man who fears the Lord, that delights greatly in his commandments.
19:55And Mark was pointing out that the godly man, his delight is in the law of the Lord,
20:01and his law does he meditate day and night, as Psalm 1 and verse 2.
20:05So you can really see the linguistic parallel between Psalm 1 and verse 2 and Psalm 112 and verse 1.
20:15And so what you see here is the man who fears the Lord is also the man who greatly delights in God's commandments.
20:25You know, the fear of the Lord is the soul of godliness.
20:28A man who fears God is one who has as his chief concern of pleasing God and doing the will of God.
20:37And therefore, because he wants to please God and he wants to do the will of God, what does he do?
20:41He focuses on the word of God.
20:43He delights greatly in his commandments.
20:46Here's a person who loves to pick up his Bible and read it.
20:50And whenever you see a person reading the scriptures, you know there's a person who fears God,
20:55that there's a person who is blessed by God, because it's through the word of God that we hear the voice of God,
21:02we learn about the will of God, and we're able then to offer worship to God.
21:07All right, any other comments on this psalm?
21:09Please come down with your call sign.
21:11Oh, yeah, Max, I guess I've just got one more that echoes then.
21:33We're in 112, but I can't help it.
21:37It's flipping back to 110.
21:40Right at the very top of 110, it says,
21:43The Lord said to my Lord,
21:44Sit at my right hand until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
21:48And then if you look at Psalms 2, verse, get the page turned here,
22:00Verse 7, as he says,
22:03The Lord has said unto me, Thou art my son, this day I have forgotten thee.
22:09And so we've got the same echoes just bouncing all over the place here inside of this wonderful echo chamber.
22:18The Psalms.
22:21I'm just thrilled with this passage here.
22:24So back to you.
22:27Yeah, real good, Mark.
22:29Mark was looking back at Psalm 110, verse 1,
22:32Where it says,
22:34The Lord said unto my Lord,
22:36Sit at my right hand until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
22:40And then, of course, that was in Psalm 2 as well,
22:44Where God says,
22:45Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee.
22:49Ask of me, and I will give thee the heathen
22:51For thine inheritance in the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
22:56And so he's once again remarking on this wonderful echo chamber that we have in the scriptures.
23:01Where we see these same themes appearing again and again and again.
23:07And so, Mark, thanks for pointing that out.
23:10Not only is there no contradiction in the Bible,
23:13but the Bible continually reinforces the themes that it teaches and the doctrines that it sets forth.
23:22So, yeah, that's a good parallel there, Mark.
23:29Thank you for that.
23:30All right, I just got a note from Dave, AI7QQ.
23:34Dave says,
23:35Verse 3 is another assurance that God intends to bless the righteous financially as well as spiritually.
23:45As we walk in righteousness, we naturally manage our resources in a way that allows for us to enjoy financial blessing.
23:53And Dave, well said.
23:55Thank you for that comment.
23:57Dave's pointing out about this righteous man.
24:01Verse 3,
24:02Wealth and riches shall be in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.
24:08And, you know, when you live your life according to God's principles,
24:12it naturally results in blessing in a variety of areas.
24:16And, you know, the Bible talks a lot about God blessing his people physically, materially, and financially.
24:25And while we certainly don't embrace a health and wealth type gospel,
24:31which says God's primary purpose is to make you wealthy and healthy,
24:36no, his primary purpose is to make you like Jesus Christ.
24:39His primary purpose is to sanctify you from your sins
24:42and to bring you into a place of being a worshiper of God,
24:47a disciple of Jesus Christ,
24:49a witness to the world,
24:51and someone who brings glory to God by way of worship.
24:54But as you do those things,
24:57God's blessing is on your life,
24:58and part of those blessings are financial blessings.
25:02We see that a lot in the book of Proverbs as well.
25:05And so while we can't serve money as a God,
25:08we can't enjoy money as a blessing from God
25:12that he supplies to his people as they serve him.
25:17And so there are principles of Christian character
25:20that result in financial stability
25:24and in the meeting of our needs.
25:29The Bible says there's oil and treasure to be desired
25:33in the dwelling of the wise,
25:36but the foolish man spins it up.
25:38So Dave, thanks for pointing out the fact
25:40that these blessings are not just spiritual blessings.
25:44They're also material blessings as well.
25:48So thanks for commenting there on verse 3.
25:50Dave, appreciate that.
25:53And Dave also just sent me another verse,
25:57AI7QQ, Psalm 3527.
26:01Let those who delight in my righteousness
26:03shout for joy and be glad and say evermore,
26:06great is the Lord who delights in the welfare of his servants.
26:11And so God certainly does care for material needs
26:14as well as our spiritual needs
26:17because he saves us body and soul.
26:19So he cares for us body and soul.
26:22And praise the Lord for the way he's given us each day
26:25our daily bread.
26:26And we have food and clothing.
26:29And so therewith, we can be content.
26:32Dave, good comments.
26:34Thank you for that.
26:34That's Dave, AI7QQ.
26:36All right, any other comments?
26:37Please come now.
26:41N7T&D.
26:44N7T&D.
26:45Go ahead.
26:46Good morning again.
26:47I'm looking at the last verse, verse 10.
26:54It's really the longings of the wicked and the consequences.
26:59The longings of the wicked.
27:01We could probably come up with less.
27:03Envy, desire to hurt and punish.
27:06Those blame others.
27:08Fear, plotting to destroy.
27:10Consumed by that.
27:11And the consequences, ashes, teeth, and wasted way, and vexing.
27:17Then it seems like the rest of the psalm
27:20is the longings of the righteous and the consequences.
27:24The longings of the righteous is to dwell on the Lord.
27:31The longings of the righteous is finding free and light in His commands.
27:35The longings of the righteous is to live and be gracious in compassion.
27:40I mean, it just goes on and on.
27:42And then the consequences of that is He doesn't have fear.
27:46He hears things that could rattle His page,
27:51that could change His world, but He still doesn't have fear.
27:56He has the children.
27:57His children are blessed and children's children.
28:01So it's interesting that most of the psalm talks about
28:04the longings of the righteous and those consequences that benefit.
28:07And at the end, what happens to the longings of the wicked
28:11and those who are consumed by those kind of longings?
28:17Anyway, that's my thought.
28:19N7 G&D.
28:19All right, N7 G&D, thank you for those comments.
28:25Well said.
28:26He was bringing out the contrast between the longings of the righteous
28:30and the longings of the wicked.
28:33And longings of the wicked are never fulfilled.
28:37Verse 10,
28:38The wicked shall see it and be grieved.
28:40He shall gnash with his teeth and melt away.
28:43Now here it is,
28:44The desire of the wicked shall perish.
28:46You know, what does Satan and his people want to do?
28:49They want to rebel against God.
28:50They want to rule the world in wickedness.
28:53They want to behave with complete abandonment,
28:56with reference to God's laws.
28:59They want to be autonomous.
29:02They want to be self-directed.
29:05And they want to, in word, be God.
29:07Well, none of those desires are ever going to be fulfilled.
29:11Satan is set up for disappointment,
29:15and all of his people are set up for disappointment in all of their desires.
29:19On the other hand,
29:21as N7 G&D pointed out,
29:24we are going to have our desires fulfilled.
29:29He talked about all the blessings.
29:32Verse 2,
29:33His seed shall be mighty on the earth.
29:35The generation of the upright shall be blessed.
29:38Wealth and riches shall be in his house.
29:40His righteousness endures forever.
29:43Verse 4,
29:43Into the upright there arises light in the darkness.
29:47Verse 5,
29:48He guides his affairs with discretion.
29:50Verse 6,
29:50Surely shall I be moved forever.
29:53And it goes on, right?
29:55And so the desires of the righteous are fulfilled.
29:58The desires of the wicked are always disappointed.
30:01Great comment.
30:03Thank you for pointing out the contrast there
30:05between how our plans work out
30:08and how the plans of the wicked work out.
30:12All right.
30:12Any other comments?
30:13Please come down with your call sign.
30:23KJ7PVT.
30:28Mark, KJ7PVT, please go ahead.
30:31Yeah, I was just listening to that wonderful insight that we just had.
30:41When it says that wealth and riches shall be in his house,
30:46it just occurred to me,
30:48you know, we can have wealth and riches in our house,
30:52but we are the home of the Holy Spirit.
30:58I mean, the thing that hit me about the word house there would be
31:03you can have wealth and riches in you.
31:09It doesn't need to be, although it can be,
31:12but it doesn't need to be money and riches and things.
31:15It's the things that you can look inside your heart and say you have riches in there
31:21that you can't even explain.
31:24Back to you, Max.
31:25Yeah, that's exactly right.
31:30You know, there's spiritual wealth.
31:32You know, it talks about the unsearchable riches of Christ.
31:35And then there's material wealth, okay,
31:38which has to do with finances and all that that can purchase.
31:42And you're right.
31:43Verse 3 could be speaking of both of those things,
31:47wealth and riches spiritually and wealth and riches materially.
31:52And, you know, the thing of it is,
31:55is wealth and riches are wonderful
31:57if the person possessing them and managing them is righteous.
32:03And so he uses them in a proper fashion.
32:06It talks about, verse 5,
32:08a good man shows favor and lends.
32:11He will guide his affairs with his discretion.
32:13Well, that's why he has some wealth and riches
32:15is because he's in a situation where he's managing his money wisely
32:21and he's managing it well.
32:23Verse 9, he has dispersed.
32:26He is given to the poor.
32:28His righteousness endures forever.
32:30So once again, here's a man who is meeting needs of others,
32:35using his finances,
32:37not as an object of worship or self-exaltation,
32:42but as a tool of ministry in reaching out to others.
32:46And so when we use money rightly,
32:49God oftentimes will entrust us with more of it
32:53so that we can use it in a greater way
32:57for the cause of his kingdom.
32:59But Mark, you are exactly right.
33:01It's the same thing with spiritual riches.
33:03The more we understand of the Bible,
33:06the more we're able to minister
33:07and lift others up with the truth of the Bible
33:10and to help them to grow in grace
33:12and in knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus.
33:15And so, you know, the Bible says
33:18godliness with contentment is great gain.
33:21So there you have it.
33:23Godliness with contentment is tremendous wealth
33:25and finances also sometimes are brought.
33:30We see that Job was a very wealthy man.
33:34Abraham was a very wealthy man.
33:36And yet our Lord Jesus, who is the most godly of all,
33:39had not where to lay his head.
33:40So these are all principles.
33:43We have to hold in proper balance with each other
33:45when it comes to what constitutes true wealth.
33:49And of course, the true wealth is spiritual wealth.
33:53And along with that comes material wealth
33:55so that we can minister that spiritual wealth
33:58and the material wealth as well
34:00to serve in the cause of the kingdom of God.
34:04Mark, KJ7PVT, great comment.
34:06Thank you for that.
34:10All right, any other comments on our passage?
34:23Please come down with your call sign.
34:29KG6J?
34:32Jerry, KG6J, please go ahead.
34:35Yeah, and just a real quick one here.
34:38Verse 6, surely he will not be shaken.
34:42The righteous will be in everlasting remembrance.
34:45That reminds me that we're written in the book of life.
34:50Back to you.
34:53Yeah, well said.
34:55You know, when you think about who's going to be remembered
34:58over the long term, it's going to be the people of God.
35:02And as you said, their names are written in the book of life.
35:04So, we will be held in everlasting remembrance
35:09as those who, you know, repented of our sins,
35:13as those who trusted in Jesus alone for our salvation,
35:18and as those then who followed Jesus
35:21and served him all the days of our life.
35:24That brings value to our life,
35:28permanent significance to what we did and what we said.
35:33God, and reward.
35:36And all of that's recorded in the book of works.
35:39It's also recorded in the book of life.
35:42It will be brought out on the day of judgment.
35:44It will be rewarded all throughout eternity.
35:47And, you know, Psalm 49 talks about men
35:50who try to build monuments to be remembered by, right?
35:54So, they'll give millions of dollars
35:56and get a building named after them
35:58at a university or something.
35:59Well, you know, 2 Peter 3 tells us
36:02it's all going to get burned up
36:04and melted back to its original elements.
36:07But what won't get burned up
36:09and what will last
36:11are the choices we made
36:14and the actions we took
36:15to worship and follow
36:19and trust in
36:20and serve the Lord Jesus
36:22all throughout our lives.
36:24So, you know,
36:26we need to live
36:27for the permanent things.
36:29And the permanent things
36:30are the things
36:31of the kingdom of God.
36:32You know, heaven and earth
36:33shall pass away, right?
36:34But my word shall not pass away.
36:37And so knowing that
36:39causes us to
36:40devote our efforts
36:42and put our focus
36:44on the things
36:45that don't pass away,
36:47which is Christ
36:47and his kingdom
36:48and his people
36:49and his worship.
36:50and those are the things
36:53that last.
36:53Jerry, KG6J,
36:55thank you for pointing out
36:56the fact that we will be had
36:58an everlasting remembrance
36:59when we follow the Lord.
37:02All right, other comments.
37:03Please come now.
37:08KG7PVT.
37:12Mark, KG7PVT, please go ahead.
37:14Thank you, Max.
37:19Yeah, I was thinking
37:22about this idea
37:23of treasures of the heart
37:25and I'd like us to look
37:29at Luke 6, verse 45.
37:34It says that Jesus is saying
37:36that a good man
37:37out of the good treasures
37:38of his heart
37:39bringeth forth
37:41that which is good
37:42and an evil man
37:44out of the evil treasures
37:46of his heart
37:47bringeth forth
37:48that which is evil
37:50for the abundance
37:51of his heart
37:52his mouth speaketh.
37:54So this is a matter
37:55of the heart, too.
37:58We can read
38:00and we can study
38:01and we can do
38:02all of those things
38:03but it's like water.
38:07If the water is coming down
38:09on bad ground,
38:11it just rolls off
38:12what we're looking for
38:14as the water
38:15to go into the ground
38:17and do what it's supposed
38:19to do
38:20and that's make things grow.
38:22So we look at our heart
38:24here as the object
38:27of where those riches
38:30come from
38:30and the ability
38:32to meet the needs
38:34of others
38:35comes out of the goodness
38:37of the heart
38:38and those are the things
38:39that the Holy Spirit
38:40is doing to
38:42our heart
38:43as we follow
38:45the joy
38:48and the ability
38:49to have compassion
38:52on others
38:53that those are
38:56the outworkings
38:58of a good heart.
38:59So a good man
39:00out of the good treasures
39:01of his heart
39:02brings forth
39:03that which is good
39:04and an evil man
39:06out of the evil treasures
39:07of his heart
39:07brings forth
39:08that which is evil.
39:10Back to you, Max.
39:10Mark, great comment.
39:14Thank you for that.
39:15For those of you
39:16who couldn't hear Mark,
39:17Mark was making reference
39:18to verse 3
39:20of Psalm 112.
39:21Wealth and riches
39:22shall be in his house.
39:24We talked about the fact
39:25that those can be
39:25physical riches
39:26and wealth.
39:27We talked about the fact
39:29those can be
39:29spiritual riches
39:30and health.
39:31And Mark has been
39:32leading us on that path
39:34in the study here
39:34and he brought out
39:36a passage
39:37in Luke chapter 6
39:39and verse 45.
39:42A good man
39:43out of the good treasure
39:44of his heart
39:44brings forth
39:45that which is good
39:46and an evil man
39:48out of the evil treasure
39:49of his heart
39:49brings forth
39:50that which is evil
39:51for out of the abundance
39:52of the heart
39:53or we could say
39:54out of the treasury
39:55of the heart
39:56the mouth speaks.
39:58So the question is
39:59is what wealth
39:59do we have laid up
40:01in our heart?
40:01And Mark was saying
40:03that we can read
40:04the Bible
40:04but if it doesn't
40:05soak down into our hearts
40:07and reside there
40:08then there's not
40:10going to be anything
40:11by way of wealth
40:12deposited in our life
40:13that can be brought forth
40:14to be used
40:15to bless other people
40:17with.
40:18And so
40:18the true riches
40:20are the riches
40:21of Christ
40:22and the transformation
40:24of character
40:25that takes place
40:27in our hearts
40:28and then
40:29out of that treasure
40:31of the knowledge
40:31of Christ
40:32and acquaintance
40:33with Christ
40:34and walking
40:35with Christ
40:35we're able
40:36to distribute
40:37spiritual blessings
40:38to other people
40:39as we teach them
40:41as we minister
40:42to them
40:43as we serve
40:44their needs.
40:46And so Mark
40:46thank you
40:47for pointing out
40:47once again
40:48another parallel passage
40:49that talks about
40:51treasure
40:52being spiritual treasure
40:54appreciate that.
40:56Okay
40:56anyway
40:58I have a comment
40:59here from
40:59Dave
41:00AI7QQ
41:01he says
41:03if you have time
41:04maybe you could
41:04speak to verse 4
41:06and of course
41:07verse 4
41:08of our psalm
41:09says
41:09under the upright
41:10there arises
41:11light in the darkness
41:13he is gracious
41:14full of compassion
41:16and righteous
41:17and of course
41:19this idea of light
41:20being attached
41:21to the upright
41:23is also spoken of
41:25in a passage
41:25he brought out
41:26Matthew 5.14
41:27you are the light
41:29of the world
41:29a city set
41:31on a hill
41:31cannot be hidden
41:32nor do people
41:33light a lamp
41:34and put it
41:34under a basket
41:35but on a stand
41:36that it gives light
41:37to all in the house
41:37in the same way
41:38let your light
41:40shine before others
41:41so that they may
41:42see your good works
41:43and give glory
41:43to your father
41:44which is in heaven
41:45that's Matthew 5.14
41:46to 16
41:47well
41:48it also says
41:50in Philippians 2.15
41:51and Dave brought
41:52this passage out
41:53as well
41:54that you may be
41:55blameless and harmless
41:56children of God
41:58without blemish
41:59in the midst
41:59of a crooked
42:00and perverse generation
42:01now here it is
42:02among whom you shine
42:03as light
42:04in the world
42:05and so
42:06what Dave's pointing
42:07out here
42:08is that we have
42:09this contrast
42:10between light
42:11and darkness
42:12in Psalm 112
42:14in verse 4
42:15we also have
42:16the contrast
42:16between light
42:17and darkness
42:18in Matthew 5.14
42:20to 16
42:20and also
42:21Philippians 2.15
42:23and so
42:24the idea here
42:25is that
42:25the righteous man
42:27is the man
42:27who manifests
42:29light
42:29and light
42:30is always
42:31a symbol
42:32of holiness
42:32and truth
42:33in the scriptures
42:34it's a manifestation
42:37of purity
42:38holiness
42:40and also
42:41truth
42:42and so
42:43we
42:45the righteous man
42:46is someone
42:48who
42:48shines light
42:51into the world
42:52in which he lives
42:53and pushes back
42:55the darkness
42:55it says
42:57in John chapter 1
42:58regarding the Lord Jesus
42:59that he
43:01was the light
43:02who came
43:03into the world
43:04and pushed back
43:05the darkness
43:06the darkness
43:07did not overcome
43:08the light
43:09and his life
43:10was the light
43:11of men
43:12so Dave
43:13AI7QQ
43:14thanks for pointing out
43:15Psalm 112 verse 4
43:17and also
43:18these parallel passages
43:19that speak to
43:20the issue
43:21of us
43:21being white
43:22in the midst
43:23of darkness
43:24alright
43:24any other comments
43:25please come now
43:26alright I'm not hearing anything
43:45so while you're thinking
43:47I want to comment
43:48on verse 7
43:49it says
43:52he shall not be afraid
43:53of evil tidings
43:55his heart is fixed
43:56trusting
43:57in the Lord
43:59his heart is established
44:01he shall not be afraid
44:03until he sees desire
44:05upon his enemies
44:06so twice it says
44:08verse 7
44:09he shall not be afraid
44:10verse 8
44:11he shall not be afraid
44:13you know
44:15when you have
44:15God
44:16on your side
44:19or you're on
44:20God's side
44:20I should say
44:22we don't have anything
44:24to be afraid of
44:24because God
44:25is in control
44:26of everything
44:27God is in control
44:28of everyone
44:29and when God
44:31is committed
44:32to caring for
44:33protecting
44:34providing
44:35and defending
44:37his own children
44:39then we can be
44:40free from fear
44:41and so
44:42the righteous man
44:43is the man
44:44who's aligned
44:44himself
44:45with God
44:46and because
44:47he's aligned
44:47himself with God
44:48and he's trusting
44:50in the Lord
44:51and his heart
44:52is fixed
44:52on the Lord
44:53verse 8
44:54his heart
44:54is established
44:56then he doesn't
44:58have to be afraid
44:58of his enemies
44:59you know
44:59there's a lot
45:00in this world
45:01that create fear
45:01in our hearts
45:02we see people
45:03who want to hurt us
45:05we see people
45:06who want to
45:06tyrannize us
45:07we see people
45:08who want to
45:09enslave us
45:10you know
45:11our heart
45:12needs to be
45:12unafraid
45:13why
45:14because these
45:15people are
45:15known to God
45:16they're under
45:17his control
45:18they're on a leash
45:19he's going to
45:20ensure that
45:21whatever he
45:21allows them
45:22to do
45:22will work
45:23together
45:23for our good
45:24and so therefore
45:25we can be
45:26free from fear
45:27and that's one
45:28of the blessings
45:29the righteous man
45:30has
45:30is not only

59:25say good
59:26morning to
59:27you in
59:28these last
59:29seconds as
59:29everybody was
59:30shutting down
59:31the fire on
59:32their radios
59:32yeah Roger I
59:35enjoy the
59:36information you
59:37provide regarding
59:38different scripture
59:39in the Bible that
59:39coincides with what
59:40we're talking about
59:41very very much
59:42I'm glad we're
59:43hearing you so
59:44well how's that
59:45811 age coming
59:47it's sitting
59:51right here
59:52right next to
59:53me
59:53I've been
59:55up to my
59:56eyeballs in
59:57home repairs
59:58and home
59:59maintenance
60:02that I've
60:02not been able
60:03to do
60:04for a while
60:05I'm coming
60:06to the end
60:07of that
60:07and I've
60:09got
60:09a couple of
60:12experiments
60:12that I'm
60:13going to be
60:13running with
60:14my antenna
60:16changes
60:16I'm going
60:17to be
60:18removing
60:18I'm going
60:20to be
60:21removing
60:21the
60:211000 ohm
60:22resistor
60:23that's in
60:23there
60:24that's
60:24kind of
60:25taking away
60:26a lot
60:27of
60:27signal
60:28that I
60:29have
60:29and then
60:30I'm going
60:31to be
60:31installing
60:31a ladder
60:32line
60:33and a
60:345000 watt
60:36one to
60:37one
60:38balance
60:41current
60:42balance
60:43and I'll
60:44be
60:44slowly
60:45bringing
60:45this thing
60:46up to
60:46speed
60:46I'll start
60:47without
60:48without the
60:49amp and get
60:50all that stuff
60:51working and
60:52then I'll
60:52incorporate the
60:54amp into
60:55that so
60:56in the
60:57next month
60:59or two
61:00or something
61:01like that
61:02depending on
61:02how well
61:03this all
61:04works
61:04I should
61:05be up
61:06and running
61:06that's what
61:07I'm hoping
61:08for
61:08that's my
61:09story back
61:10back to
61:11you
61:11yeah Roger
61:13well I'm
61:14glad that
61:14the airwaves
61:16are better
61:16and I can
61:17hear you
61:17on Utah
61:19SCR
61:19and the
61:21one that I
61:21was using
61:22in Idaho
61:22has been
61:22down for
61:23oh probably
61:25two three
61:25weeks now
61:26I was using
61:27a different
61:27Idaho and I
61:28was able to
61:28hear you
61:29on that but
61:30not quite as
61:31good as the
61:31one that I
61:32was using
61:32and I'm
61:34glad things
61:35are working
61:35out I know
61:36what you mean
61:36about the
61:37house work
61:37trying to get
61:39things repaired
61:39Sandy and I
61:41are waiting
61:41for a report
61:42on a house
61:44that we're
61:44looking at
61:45purchasing
61:45it's going
61:47to happen
61:47Tuesday and
61:48then we're
61:49going to make
61:49the decision
61:50if we want
61:50to buy the
61:51home or not
61:51I had a
61:53change of
61:53heart and a
61:54change of
61:54thought
61:55my most
61:55important thing
61:57that I was
61:57concerned about
61:58was having
61:58a good
61:59signal
61:59getting out
62:00over the
62:01ocean and
62:01looking over
62:02the ocean
62:02and being
62:04on top of
62:05a mountain
62:06and overlooking
62:06things because
62:08I wanted to be
62:09able to help
62:09the best I
62:10could with
62:10the net
62:11and participate
62:12in the net
62:13but I thought
62:14about it and the
62:15more and more
62:15I thought about
62:16it Sandy and I
62:17are alone we
62:18don't have
62:18children and
62:19we've been
62:21disinherited by
62:22the family I
62:23was never
62:23inherited by
62:24the family
62:25even though
62:26it's been
62:26what 46
62:27years and
62:30I just
62:31the light bulb
62:32went on I
62:33need to make
62:34sure that Sandy's
62:35going to be
62:35okay so rather
62:37than leave the
62:38park where we're
62:38at and I know
62:40it sounds stupid
62:41with all the
62:41problems we're
62:42having rather
62:43than leave the
62:44park where we're
62:45at we're going
62:45to purchase a
62:46home maybe on
62:47the river that's
62:49already been
62:49ramjacked and
62:50supported and all
62:52the work's been
62:52done other
62:53than fixing up
62:54the cracks in
62:55the walls and
62:56stuff and raising
62:57up the house
62:57and lowering it
62:58and everything and
63:00we might be
63:00moving so I've
63:02got to do the
63:03same thing that
63:04you're doing
63:04there here you
63:06know got to
63:07paint got to
63:08replace a couple
63:10of sheets of
63:10T111 things like
63:11that Roger yeah
63:16Roger that yeah
63:18I'll be praying
63:19for you that's
63:19those are you
63:22know sometimes
63:22tough jobs and
63:25sometimes they're
63:26easy but yeah
63:27that's kind of our
63:28job here we I
63:30find myself
63:31complaining and
63:32moaning that I
63:33have to do all
63:34of this stuff but
63:34I'm reminded that
63:36the reason that I
63:38have to repair this
63:39room for this
63:40house is because
63:41God gave me this
63:43house and it's
63:43my job did
63:44remember that all
63:48of these little
63:49chores that I'm
63:50doing are because
63:51the Lord has been
63:52good to me and
63:54he's given me an
63:55house I have a
63:56place to get in
63:57and all of those
63:59kind of things
63:59so that's part of
64:02my life here on
64:04team life we just
64:05kind of do what the
64:07Lord the next
64:08thing the Lord
64:09places in front
64:11of us we do
64:11that we wait
64:12for him to show
64:14us what we're
64:15supposed to do
64:15and we do that
64:16and I wait for
64:19the next thing
64:20that my house
64:21tells me I'm
64:21supposed to do
64:22and I do that
64:23so that's I'm
64:26right with you
64:27there I'm excited
64:31to hear that
64:32you're looking
64:33forward to going
64:35to a new place
64:35that's a wonderful
64:37thing so good
64:39to hear your
64:40voice and say
64:41hi to Sandy
64:42we miss the
64:44both of you
64:45I'm trying to be
64:47on the air
64:49I will
