The Bible reading

Psalm 113

The study focused on Psalm 113, highlighting the contrast between worldly hierarchies and the kingdom of God. While society often ignores the poor and weak, God is characterized by His willingness to humble Himself to lift up the lowly. The psalm is identified as part of the Hallel psalms (113-118), traditionally sung during Jewish feasts such as Passover, Pentecost, and Tabernacles, serving as a reminder of God's past deliverance of Israel from Egypt.

Insights

  • The phrase 'from the rising of the sun to its setting' in verse 3 is the basis for the hymn 'From the Rising of the Sun,' which was used to teach children to praise God throughout the day.
  • The study noted that the name of God (Yahweh) is a verbal symbol representing His character and covenant-keeping nature, rather than an object of idolatry in itself.
  • Jesus' trial before the high priest in Mark 14 illustrates the foolishness of created beings judging their Creator, contrasting with His voluntary submission to the cross.
  • The story of the widow's mite was shared as a personal testimony of how focusing on the forgotten and rejected, as God does, can lead to effective ministry.
  • The term 'meek' in the Beatitudes does not imply weakness but rather a willingness to yield to God's will, contrasting with self-exaltation.

0:00No worries.
0:05Let us bow our heads.
0:07Most gracious and loving Father, we do thank you so much for this day that you've given us, Lord.
0:12We thank you for the word that you've given us and settled in our hearts.
0:16And Lord, thank you for the opportunity to gather together using the technology we have that we might come together to study it and look into it.
0:24And Father, we also thank you for hearing our prayers and being so merciful and kind to hear them and minister to each and every one according to thy will.
0:34Jesus, we thank you for all you do in our lives.
0:37In Jesus' holy name we pray.
0:38Amen.
0:39Amen.
0:40Thank you so much for that.
0:41I appreciate that, Kevin, and me springing that on you at the last second.
0:45I'm going to also spring this on Roger, WB7BZL, last second.
0:49Roger, could you read for us Psalm 113 when I get done with my introduction?
0:53Over.
0:54Sure.
0:56I read it from the NIV a few minutes ago.
0:58That'd be great.
0:59Okay, good.
1:00Well, let me give a little introduction to Psalm 113, then I'll have you read.
1:04All right, WB7MAX here.
1:06We're in Psalm 113 today.
1:09And, you know, this psalm deals with the issue of people in high positions in society.
1:18You know, it's virtually always the case in societies across the world and across time
1:23that the people who occupy high positions in society have little concern or involvement
1:30with those at the bottom of society.
1:33Kings and presidents and prime ministers have nothing to do with a common man on the street.
1:38The wealthy and the connected in society have nothing to do with the poor and the disenfranchised.
1:44And the powerful and the influential have nothing to do with the weak and the obscure.
1:50But this is not the case in the kingdom of God.
1:54And the reason why it's not the case is because God, who is infinitely exalted, who is infinitely wealthy,
2:02and who is infinitely powerful, humbled himself to embrace and adopt as his own the lowly and the poor and the weak.
2:12In Isaiah 57 and verse 15, it says,
2:17Thus saith the high and lofty one that inhabits eternity, whose name is holy.
2:22I dwell in the high and holy place with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit,
2:28to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
2:33And so it's amazing beyond words that those the world wants nothing to do with,
2:40God wants everything to do with.
2:44Those that are great in this world despise the low, but that is not the way of God.
2:53Those that are great in this world despise the infinitely greater God loves and raises up to be his own dear children.
3:01So we see, for example, God bypassing the rich man, who is dressed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day in Luke 16,
3:10while he embraces starving Lazarus, who laid at his gate covered with sores so that the dogs licked his bleeding wounds.
3:20And so the fact that the infinitely great God would stoop to lift up the abyssmally low of society
3:25stands as a point of wonder and praise and thanksgiving that can never be expressed fully enough or often enough.
3:33And this is why there is equality and unity and fellowship among the people of God without class or distinction or comparison.
3:42All the people of God, whether rich or poor, Jew or Gentile, male or female, bond or free,
3:48are all one brotherhood, one class, one people without distinction of importance or value or significance among them.
3:56Because if our God has condescended to reach all the way down from his exalted throne above the universe
4:03to lift us up out of the dust and the dunghill, then who are we to exalt ourselves above one another?
4:11And so the one who washed our feet told us we ought to wash one another's feet.
4:16He told us that the great should stoop to serve the small.
4:20And he told us that the leader should serve the follower.
4:23And that he that would be greatest among you should be servant of all.
4:27And so this is the amazing message of our psalm today.
4:31That the infinitely high God who needs no one and needs nothing
4:34chose out of the love and grace and mercy to humble himself
4:39to reach down to the least and the last and the lost
4:42and lift him up from their distress
4:43and ultimately lift him up to heaven itself.
4:48And so this is the God that we deal with.
4:50This is the God that we praise and honor
4:52because he reached down and picked me up
4:54out of a horrible pit and set my feet upon a solid rock
4:58and established my going.
5:00All right, that's a little introduction to Psalm 113.
5:03Roger, WV7VZL.
5:05If you could read for us Psalm 113, I'd appreciate that.
5:08Go ahead, brother.
5:10Yeah, thank you, Max, for that introduction.
5:12And it certainly highlights these words.
5:17This is WV7VZL reading from the New American Standard Version.
5:22Praise the Lord.
5:26Praise, O servants of the Lord.
5:30Praise the name of the Lord.
5:34Blessed be the name of the Lord
5:36from this time forth and forever.
5:40From the rising of the sun to its setting,
5:43the name of the Lord is to be praised.
5:47The Lord is high above all nations.
5:51His glory is above the heavens.
5:55Who is like the Lord our God?
6:00Who is enthroned on high?
6:03Who humbles himself to behold the things that are in heaven
6:07and in the earth?
6:10He raises the poor from the dust
6:13and lifts the needy from the ash heap
6:16to make them fit with princes,
6:20with the princes of his people.
6:23He makes the barren woman abide in the house
6:27as a joyful mother of children.
6:31Praise the Lord.
6:35WV7VZL.
6:36All right.
6:37Great reading, Roger.
6:38I'm going to go down to 3975
6:40and yard someone up here.
6:41Hang on one second, everybody.
6:43We'll be right back.
7:13All right.
7:14WV7MX back with you guys.
7:16Roger, thank you for that reading.
7:17Wonderful reading.
7:19All right.
7:20Any comments on Psalm 113?
7:23Please come now.
7:24KJ7 PVD.
7:26Mark, KJ7 PVT.
7:28Please go ahead.
7:29Yeah.
7:30Thanks for that introduction, Max.
7:32Here's some other ideas as well for Psalms 113.
7:38This psalm is actually a halal psalm as well.
7:44And it's sung at the Passover feast,
7:47at the Feast of Pentecost,
7:50at the Feast of Tabernacles,
7:52and probably all the other feasts in Israel.
7:55So that's kind of an interesting thing.
7:58We've got more going on here than just 113.
8:01It extends all the way to 118.
8:04So that's an interesting little point there.
8:07I'll keep in mind as we move on
8:10to the next studies coming up in a couple of days.
8:13And also, the thing that kind of rang true for me
8:17was from the rising of the sun
8:20to the going down of the sun,
8:21saying the Lord's name is to be praised.
8:23Those exact words are a song that we sing at church.
8:29But also, when Margie and I were raising our children,
8:33and those early mornings when you're woken up
8:36and the child can't go to sleep or is sick
8:40or trying to put them down at bed at night
8:45or whatever it was,
8:47it was from the rising of the sun
8:48to the going down of the same.
8:51I remember sitting in a rocking chair.
8:53I remember Margie sitting in a rocking chair.
8:55And this is what we would sing to our children
8:58when they were just babies.
9:00And so that is a wonderful memory for me
9:05when my eyes came across that scripture right there.
9:11And then the other thing that I have,
9:14and it's an extra point,
9:15is that he humbled himself to come from heaven.
9:20He made himself,
9:21he was made a little lower than the angels.
9:24And he came to lift us up.
9:26So those are my thoughts on this one here.
9:30Max, back to you.
9:31KJ7 PBT.
9:34All right, Mark, really good points.
9:36For those of you who weren't able to hear Mark,
9:39he was saying these are the Halal Psalms,
9:41Psalm 113 to 118.
9:43And these Psalms were sung at the Passover,
9:46at Pentecost, and at Tabernacles,
9:47at the various feasts.
9:50And so here's a recollection of God's dealings
9:53in the past with his people.
9:55And so from that perspective,
9:57we can understand better
9:59some of the things that are in this psalm.
10:02For example, he raises,
10:05verse 7, he raises the poor out of the dust
10:07and lifts the needy out of the dunghill.
10:10Well, that's what God did
10:12when he brought Israel out of Egypt,
10:14didn't he, at the Passover.
10:16And so Israel was at the bottom of society.
10:19And then God lifted them up out of that position,
10:22made them an independent nation,
10:24brought them into their own land,
10:25and what a wonderful celebration of that the Passover is,
10:30as well as Tabernacles,
10:33the journey that they took.
10:35And then Mark pointed out verse 3
10:37is a song in their church.
10:40Apparently there's a song
10:41from the rising of the sun
10:42to the going down of the same.
10:44The Lord's name is to be praised.
10:46And so when he was raising his kids,
10:48he would not only sing that to them,
10:50but they would start the day with God
10:52and they would end the day with God.
10:53And that's what it says in Deuteronomy 6, right?
10:56You shall talk of these scriptures
10:58with your children
10:59when you rise up in the morning,
11:01when you walk by the way,
11:02and when you lay down at night.
11:05And so, yes, there's not a moment of the day
11:08that we are not to be praising the name of the Lord.
11:12As soon as we wake up,
11:14and the last thought before we go to sleep,
11:16verse 3, Mark, great comment there.
11:19And then Mark also said
11:20that this talks about how Jesus humbled himself.
11:24And he came down from the most high position.
11:28You know, he was in the form of God.
11:30He thought it not robbery to be equal with God,
11:33but then wound up making himself of no reputation,
11:36taking upon himself the form of a man.
11:38He humbled himself and became obedient to death,
11:41even the death of the cross,
11:43which is the lowest criminal position
11:45that a person could have in society.
11:47He couldn't get any lower in society.
11:50Someone who was crucified was lower than a slave
11:52who was just walking around.
11:54So, Jesus took this tremendous downward journey,
11:59Mark was saying,
12:00from heaven to earth,
12:02and from being sitting on the throne of God
12:04to being upon a cross on Mount Calvary.
12:08So, tremendous condescension
12:10on the part of our Lord Jesus Christ
12:12to come down to be with us.
12:15Mark, KJ7PBT,
12:17thank you for those comments.
12:19All right, other comments.
12:20Please come down.
12:21Well, ZXN.
12:23ZXN, Kevin, go ahead.
12:25KJ7, ZXN.
12:26I really appreciate those comments from Mark there.
12:30Just wonderful.
12:31And it is the picture.
12:33You know, God reminds us
12:35that he's not a respecter of persons.
12:37And he doesn't see us as man sees us
12:41from the outside,
12:44whatever social, economic structures we might have.
12:48Some may have a caste system.
12:50Some may have some sort of socialist hierarchy,
12:55if you will.
12:56And the haves and the haves not.
12:59Well, we all come empty.
13:02We all come broken.
13:03And God does condescend himself down for us.
13:07We know God looks at the heart.
13:10And I love that.
13:11I'd love to hear what song,
13:13name of that song, Mark.
13:15It sounds so familiar,
13:16but for some reason,
13:18I'm not coming up with the name of that hymn.
13:21But anyway, I appreciate the comments.
13:24And what a beautiful picture here
13:26of God's loving kindness, to be sure.
13:28KB7, ZXN.
13:30Kevin, great comment.
13:32Thank you for that.
13:33Mark, KJ7PVT.
13:35Kevin, KB7ZXN,
13:37is wanting to know the name of that song
13:39that's based on Psalm 113 and verse 3.
13:43Mark, can you come up with a name for us?
13:45Go ahead there.
13:48You know, it really doesn't have a name.
13:51I can sing it for you here.
13:54It goes from the rising of the sun
13:56to the going down of the same.
14:00My Lord's name is to be praised.
14:05From the rising of the sun
14:07to the going down of the same.
14:11My Lord's name is to be praised.
14:15Praise ye, the Lord.
14:19Praise ye, all the servants of the Lord.
14:22Praise the name of the Lord.
14:26Bless the season's name of the Lord.
14:30From this time for
14:32and forevermore.
14:37That's it, guys.
14:39Amen.
14:42Kevin, were you able to copy that?
14:44Go ahead, Kevin.
14:46Yeah, I picked him up well on the SDR.
14:48Thank you, Mark.
14:49Okay, real good.
14:50All right.
14:51So, anyway, we got serenaded there by Mark.
14:54That's great, Mark.
14:55Thank you for singing that to us.
14:57But, yes, getting back to you, Kevin,
14:59and your comment,
15:01you know, I really appreciate you bringing out
15:03that God's not a respecter of persons.
15:06And that in the kingdom of God,
15:07we don't have a caste system.
15:09We don't have a class system.
15:13We are all equal.
15:14You know, the Bible uses various terms
15:18to describe the kingdom of God.
15:21But one of the terms it uses
15:23is the fact that we're the bride of Christ.
15:25And as the bride of Christ,
15:28we're all equally loved.
15:29We're all equally valued.
15:31We're all treated as being appreciated
15:36and loved by Jesus without any exception
15:39and without any distinction among us.
15:43And, you know, there's a passage there
15:45in Galatians, I believe it is,
15:49that says, let me just turn to this for a second.
15:52Yes.
15:53Galatians 3.28,
15:55for there's neither Jew nor Greek,
15:57there's neither bond nor free,
15:58there's neither male nor female.
16:00You're all one in Christ Jesus.
16:03That's Galatians 3.28.
16:05And so we all stand shoulder to shoulder
16:07in the kingdom of God.
16:08We're all sinners in need of salvation.
16:11We're all adopted as children of God.
16:13We're all equally forgiven.
16:15We're all equally glorified.
16:17And so Christ has always had the attitude
16:23that he that is greatest among you,
16:26let him be servant of all.
16:28So there's no place for any of us
16:30to be in a position of feeling we're better than others.
16:33Kevin, excellent comment.
16:35Thank you for that, brother.
16:36All right.
16:36Any other comments?
16:37Please come now.
16:39Five Yankee?
16:40Five Yankee.
16:41Go ahead, Beck.
16:42The name of the song is called
16:44From the Rising of the Sun.
16:47All right, Kevin.
16:48Kevin, KB7ZXN.
16:50Beck, Alpha from Five Yankee,
16:51says the name of the song is
16:52From the Rising of the Sun.
16:53So go to Google,
16:54type in From the Rising of the Sun,
16:56and you should be able to find that.
16:58Over.
16:58Go ahead there, Beck.
17:00That's it.
17:01All right, good.
17:02Thank you, Beck.
17:02Appreciate that.
17:03Kevin, copy?
17:05I did copy.
17:06Thank you, Beck.
17:07All right, real good.
17:08Okay, any other comments on our passage?
17:10Please come now.
17:14WB7ZXN.
17:15Roger, go ahead.
17:18Well, I thank you for the description,
17:21of course, of the humbling of Jesus.
17:26And the picture came to mind
17:29as Jesus was standing before the high priest
17:32in the Gospel of Mark, chapter 14.
17:37And the high priest, finally,
17:39Jesus, you know, does an answer.
17:42And the high priest stood up
17:43and came forward and questioned Jesus.
17:47Do you make no answer?
17:49What is that?
17:50These men are testifying against you.
17:53But he kept quiet or silent
17:55and made no answer.
17:57Again, the high priest was questioning him
18:00and saying to him,
18:01Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?
18:05And apparently Jesus knew
18:08that his time had come
18:10because he knew what would happen
18:13when he said this.
18:14Verse 62, and Jesus said,
18:16I am.
18:17And you shall see the Son of Man
18:20sitting at the right hand of power
18:23and coming with the clouds of heaven.
18:27And in the NASB, that's red-lettered
18:31and it's also a sign
18:34and it was a quote from Daniel, chapter 7.
18:38And that did Christ in, so to speak.
18:43And tearing his clothes,
18:44the high priest said,
18:45What further need do we have of witnesses?
18:48You have heard the blasphemy.
18:50How does it seem to you?
18:52And they all condemned him
18:54to be deserving of death.
18:57So, as you say,
18:58from the cross
18:59to the elevated position
19:03with the Ancient of Days
19:05in Daniel 7.
19:06This is WB7, VZL.
19:10Roger, thank you for that.
19:12Yes.
19:12You know, here we have Jesus
19:15being judged by people he created,
19:19being judged by people
19:20that he put in that position
19:22from his sovereign throne in heaven.
19:25People whose very life and breath
19:27is held in his hand,
19:30and yet they think they have authority
19:32and power over him.
19:35You know, it's so foolish
19:36that people would reject God
19:39and that they would think themselves
19:42superior to God.
19:44And that's why it says in Psalm 2,
19:45He that sits in heaven shall laugh.
19:47The Lord shall have them in derision.
19:49And the notion that we,
19:52who are, as our psalm says of us,
19:57that we are in the dust,
20:00we're in the dunghill,
20:01that's the position we're actually in.
20:06And to think that we would
20:07exalt ourselves against this God
20:09and fight with this God,
20:11that's about as dumb of a conclusion
20:14as anyone could ever arrive at.
20:17But nevertheless,
20:18that is the foolishness we see
20:20on display at the trial of Jesus.
20:23Roger, great comment.
20:25Thank you for that.
20:26All right, any other comments
20:27on our psalm, please come down.
20:29All right, I just got a text message
20:41from Keith, K7NEB,
20:43says he's still out camping
20:44and he will be back
20:47at his home base next week.
20:49Okay, real good.
20:50We got you checked in there.
20:53All right, and I did forward Dave,
20:55AI7QQ, I did forward those songs
21:00to Kevin, KB7, ZXN.
21:02So that's all squared away.
21:04All right, back to our psalm,
21:05Psalm 113.
21:07Any comments on Psalm 113?
21:09Please come down.
21:14WB7, Vizel.
21:16Roger, please go ahead.
21:17Well, we have a number of barren women.
21:20And this, I'm just going to suggest one
21:25that was a very happy mother
21:28after she had Samuel.
21:32She prayed for Samuel.
21:35She was even, went to the high priest
21:37and he thought that she was drunk.
21:40She was so distraught with her barrenness
21:43and made her appeal,
21:45her humble appeal to God through Eli.
21:49And that must have been quite an appeal
21:53for Eli to mistake in her motives
21:57or her status
21:59or her thought that she was inebriated.
22:04But here, Samuel was the only one
22:08that had all three, prophet and judge.
22:13And let's see, there's a three-third position
22:16in priest.
22:17So, in a sense, he was similar to Christ,
22:22kind of a type of Christ in that sense.
22:26So, yeah.
22:28And she, of course, had competition within the home,
22:32which is a tragic situation
22:34with multiple marriages in one household
22:39and multiple wives.
22:42But, yeah, I'm thinking of that particular barren woman
22:46in particular this morning in verse 9.
22:49Over.
22:50Yeah, well said, Roger.
22:52So, Roger's referring to verse 9 of our psalm,
22:54Psalm 113,
22:56which says,
22:56he maketh the barren woman to keep house
23:00and to be a joyful mother of children.
23:02Now, once again, barren women were like
23:04at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder, right?
23:07They were despised.
23:09They were looked down on.
23:10They were viewed as somehow defective
23:12or not doing their job somehow.
23:15Now, and he's referring to Hannah
23:18in 1 Samuel chapter 1 and 2,
23:21who was a barren woman.
23:23And she was so grieved and so heartbroken over that
23:26and so falsely accused
23:28of being not only a barren woman,
23:32but a drunken woman.
23:33Well, God gave her conception
23:35in answer to her prayer
23:36and she bore Samuel.
23:39And in 1 Samuel chapter 2 and verse 1,
23:43it says,
23:43Hannah prayed and said,
23:45My heart rejoices in the Lord.
23:47My horn is exalted in the Lord.
23:50My mouth is enlarged over my enemies
23:53because I rejoice in thy salvation.
23:56And she goes on here,
23:58verse 3,
23:58Talk no more exceedingly proudly.
24:01Let not arrogancy come out of your mouth
24:03for the Lord is a God of knowledge
24:05and by him actions are weighed.
24:08And she goes on there.
24:09And so you can read about this barren woman rejoicing
24:15in 2 Samuel chapter 2.
24:18And you can see how God reached down
24:21and lifted her up
24:23and set her upon a place of prominence
24:28and blessing into esteem before others.
24:32And, you know, Roger,
24:33it reminds me of,
24:36of, who was it?
24:37One of Jacob's wives.
24:40There was a Rachel.
24:42Yeah, so Leah had like six kids
24:44and Rachel had none.
24:46And finally, Rachel had Joseph and Benjamin.
24:50And so she was a barren woman
24:54and she was looked down on.
24:56Sarah, Abraham's wife,
24:58was also a barren woman.
25:00And she had a child at, what,
25:0299 years old, whatever it was,
25:06way past childbearing years.
25:08So we have a number of examples
25:10of the fulfillment of Psalm 113
25:14and verse 9.
25:16Thank you for pointing that out, Roger.
25:18All right, other comments.
25:20Please come down.
25:32All right, while you're thinking,
25:34I'd like us to notice
25:35what is said in 1 Corinthians chapter 1.
25:41And in 1 Corinthians chapter 1,
25:43it talks about the wisdom of God
25:46versus the wisdom of man, okay?
25:49And how that the wisdom of man
25:50is foolishness with God
25:51and the wisdom of God
25:53is foolishness with men
25:54because men are depraved
25:57and darkened and foolish.
25:58But it says that in verse 26,
26:041 Corinthians 1, 26, it says,
26:07For you see your calling, brethren,
26:10how that not many wise men
26:11after the flesh,
26:12not many mighty,
26:13not many noble are called.
26:15But God has chosen
26:16the foolish things of the world
26:17to confound the wise.
26:19God has chosen
26:20the weak things of the world
26:21to confound the things
26:22that are mighty,
26:23and the base things of the world,
26:25and the things which are despised
26:27hath God chosen,
26:29and yea, the things which are not,
26:31to bring to naught
26:33the things that are,
26:34that no flesh should glory
26:36in his presence.
26:38And so God specializes
26:40in bypassing those
26:42that society highly esteems
26:44and looks up to,
26:45and he reaches down
26:47to the foolish people,
26:50the weak people,
26:52the base people,
26:53the despised people,
26:55and the people that are viewed
26:56as nothings in society.
26:59And those are the things
27:00that he calls
27:00into saving faith in Christ.
27:02Those are the people
27:03he calls into saving faith in Christ
27:05and sets up to be his kingdom
27:07and his children
27:09and his people
27:10so that no one would say,
27:12well, yeah, God chose me
27:13because I was so wonderful.
27:15Look at all the money I had.
27:16Look at all the intelligence I had.
27:18Super high IQ I had.
27:20Therefore, God chose me.
27:21No, that isn't how it works.
27:24God, as our Psalm 113 says,
27:29even though in verse 4,
27:31the Lord is high above all nations,
27:33his glory is above the heavens.
27:35Verse 6,
27:36he humbles himself
27:37to behold the things
27:38that are in the heaven
27:38and in the earth
27:39and raises the poor
27:41out of the dust
27:42and lifts the needy
27:44out of the dunghill.
27:45And I would guess
27:46that if we did a little survey
27:48of who's on this net,
27:51we would find out
27:52that most of us
27:53come from the lower strata
27:54of society
27:55and not from the upper class.
27:57Now, thank the Lord,
27:58even though it says
27:59there's not many,
27:59there are some.
28:01And he does choose
28:02some noble and wise
28:03and mighty folk
28:04to be in his kingdom as well.
28:06So no one's shut out.
28:07But the idea here
28:09is that God
28:09bypasses
28:13the self-important
28:14and the self-exalting
28:16and he reaches down
28:18to those who are broken
28:19and weak
28:19and admit that they
28:20are helpless.
28:22All right.
28:22Any other comments
28:23on our psalm?
28:24Please come down.
28:37All right.
28:45Well, I don't want
28:45to do all the talking here.
28:47Anybody have any car mids?
28:48Please come down
28:49with your call sign.
28:53KG6J,
28:54with a quick follow-up
28:56to you.
28:57Jerry, KG6J,
28:58go ahead, please.
28:59Yeah, I think this fits.
29:01So as you were sharing
29:03that and as we were
29:04reading through it,
29:05it reminded me
29:06of one of the Beatitudes
29:07that Jesus spoke of
29:09that blessed are the meek
29:11for they shall
29:12inherit the earth.
29:14And the meek
29:14doesn't necessarily
29:16mean weakness,
29:18but Jesus right there,
29:22he's going to
29:23raise these people up
29:25and they're going to
29:26be set above others.
29:31Yeah, Jerry,
29:32great comment.
29:32Thank you for connecting
29:33this passage
29:35with the Beatitudes.
29:37And when you look
29:38at those first three
29:39Beatitudes,
29:40blessed are the poor
29:41in spirit,
29:41blessed are they that
29:42mourn,
29:43and blessed are the meek.
29:45That's the disposition
29:46of saved people
29:48and a people
29:49that Jesus saves.
29:50You think of someone
29:51who's poor in spirit,
29:52okay?
29:53Here's someone
29:53who has nothing
29:54to offer,
29:56okay?
29:57A person who's poor
29:58has no resources,
30:00all right?
30:00They have nothing.
30:01And we come to Jesus
30:03with nothing.
30:04Nothing in my hand
30:05I bring,
30:07simply to thy cross
30:08I cling.
30:10And that song,
30:12just as I am,
30:13without one plea,
30:14but that thy blood
30:15was shed for me,
30:16and that thou bidst me
30:17come to thee,
30:18I come to thee,
30:20O Lamb of God.
30:21And so,
30:22the idea of being
30:23poor in spirit
30:24and in mourning
30:24over our sins,
30:26right?
30:27I am a sinner.
30:29You think of the
30:30publican beating
30:31his breast and saying,
30:32be merciful to me,
30:34a sinner.
30:35And we see the humility
30:36that's there.
30:37And then the meekness,
30:38that's someone
30:39who's willing to yield
30:40to the will of another.
30:42That's someone who says,
30:43not my will,
30:44but thine be done.
30:46And so,
30:47when you look at
30:48those first three
30:49Beatitudes,
30:49you see someone
30:51who is at the lowest level.
30:54They have no resources.
30:56They recognize
30:56they're a sinner.
30:58And they have abandoned
30:59any notion
31:00of doing their own will
31:02ever again.
31:03They want to do
31:03the will of God.
31:05So, yes,
31:06that is the person
31:07that is in view
31:09here in Psalm 113.
31:12Jerry KG68,
31:13thanks for making
31:14that connection.
31:15Excellent connection.
31:17All right,
31:17other comments,
31:18please come down.
31:19WV-7,
31:32is it help?
31:33Roger,
31:33please go ahead.
31:36I am,
31:38in a sense,
31:39living with
31:39a person.
31:42Well,
31:43yeah,
31:43every time
31:44we do,
31:45praise the Lord,
31:46read
31:47the Older Testament
31:49and
31:51if the name
31:52is,
31:53is,
31:54if the Lord
31:55is in the text,
31:58she will,
32:00she will change it
32:02to Yah.
32:03and so,
32:07somehow,
32:08that name
32:10is,
32:13somehow,
32:15in her past,
32:16it has been very
32:18highly emphasized
32:20about the literalness
32:23of the name.
32:24I think of the name
32:28in the Older Testament
32:29certainly highlights
32:31the character
32:32of the person,
32:35but that,
32:37the character
32:37is more important
32:39than how we
32:39pronounce it
32:41in our
32:42English language.
32:44And,
32:45so,
32:45I'm just throwing
32:47this out
32:47since you
32:49did meet Autumn,
32:50Max.
32:51That's kind of
32:52one of the more
32:53areas that are,
32:56I guess,
32:57she stands out
32:58that way.
32:59Go ahead,
32:59Max.
33:00What do you,
33:00what do you sense
33:01when we talk about
33:02praise the Lord,
33:04praise the name
33:05of the Lord,
33:07blessed be the name
33:08of the Lord?
33:10Tell me about
33:11your take on
33:12the name,
33:13over.
33:15Yeah,
33:15copy that.
33:16You know,
33:17you have a name,
33:18it's R-O-G-E-R,
33:19and that name,
33:21R-O-G-E-R,
33:22is a symbol.
33:23And it's a,
33:24it's a verbal symbol
33:25that represents you.
33:27And the focus
33:28is not on
33:29R-O-G-E-R.
33:31The focus is on
33:32the person
33:33that verbal symbol
33:34represents,
33:35what his character
33:36is,
33:37what his works
33:37are,
33:38and,
33:39and the kind
33:41of a person
33:41that he is.
33:43And so,
33:44our focus is not
33:45on the name
33:46as though we
33:46idolize
33:48a verbal symbol.
33:50What we're doing
33:51is using that
33:52verbal symbol
33:53to speak
33:55of
33:55a particular
33:57person.
33:58And so,
33:59I think it's
33:59almost an idolatry
34:01of a verbal symbol
34:02as opposed to
34:03a worship
34:03of
34:04the person
34:05that that
34:06verbal symbol
34:06represents.
34:07So,
34:09if we can't
34:10translate
34:11Yahweh
34:12to
34:13Lord,
34:15then we can't
34:16translate anything
34:17in the scriptures.
34:19We just will go back
34:20to using
34:21Hebrew and Greek
34:22and refusing
34:23to translate.
34:24So,
34:24I think that
34:25that's a
34:26inappropriate
34:27legalistic
34:28emphasis
34:29on a verbal
34:31symbol
34:31over
34:32the person
34:34that that
34:34verbal symbol
34:35represents.
34:35And of course,
34:36Yahweh
34:36represents
34:38the covenant
34:39keeping God.
34:41Of course,
34:41there's other names
34:42that are used
34:43for God
34:43that are also
34:45used for other
34:46gods,
34:46like Elohim,
34:47for example,
34:48is used of
34:49other gods.
34:50But Yahweh
34:51is used
34:51exclusively
34:52of the God
34:53of Israel,
34:54the first member
34:55of the Trinity,
34:56you know,
34:57the Father,
34:58and all
34:59that he
34:59represents.
35:01So,
35:02that's my
35:02take on that,
35:03Roger.
35:04We're quickly
35:05running out of
35:06time.
35:06I do have a
35:06couple text
35:07messages I
35:08want to get
35:08to.
35:09This one is
35:10from Dave,
35:10AI7QQ.
35:11Dave says,
35:12the widow's
35:12mite,
35:13God is focused
35:14on the people
35:15most people
35:16never notice.
35:18It was that
35:18story that
35:19changed my
35:19focus onto
35:20prison ministry.
35:22God is focused
35:23on and cares
35:23about the people
35:24that are forgotten
35:25and rejected
35:25by most others.
35:26When you focus
35:28on what God
35:28is focused
35:29on,
35:30you will see
35:30him do
35:31mighty works.
35:32And so,
35:33Dave,
35:33AI7QQ,
35:34well said.
35:36Prisons are
35:37full of people
35:38that society
35:39has discarded
35:40and has declared
35:41to be worthless
35:42and useless.
35:43And yet,
35:44how many people
35:45are saved
35:45in and through
35:46prison ministries?
35:47Thank you for
35:48that.
35:49All right,
35:49here's a note
35:50from Keith,
35:50K7NEB.
35:52He says,
35:52five times
35:53in the first
35:54three verses,
35:55the word
35:55praise appears.
35:57Obviously,
35:58we're called
35:59on to make
35:59this strong,
36:01a strong focus
36:02of our prayers
36:03daily.
36:05And so,
36:05the word praise
36:06there occurs
36:06over and over
36:07again in those
36:09first three
36:10verses.
36:11And so,
36:12praise should
36:13be at the
36:14top of our
36:15focus and
36:16of our expression
36:17and of our
36:18conduct.
36:20All right,
36:20great comment,
36:21Keith,
36:21K7NEB.
36:22Thank you for
36:23that.
36:23Notice verse
36:24verse 1,
36:24praise ye
36:24the Lord.
36:26Praise,
36:26O ye
36:27servants of
36:27the Lord.
36:28Praise the
36:29name of
36:29the Lord.
36:31Verse 3,
36:32from the
36:32rising of
36:32the sun
36:33to the
36:33going down
36:33of the
36:34same,
36:34the Lord's
36:34name is
36:35to be
36:35praised.
36:37And then,
36:37of course,
36:38verse 2,
36:38blessed to be
36:39the name
36:39of the
36:39Lord.
36:40So,
36:41Keith,
36:41yes,
36:42let's
36:42praise this
36:43God who
36:43reaches down
36:44from his
36:45throne on
36:45high to
36:46lift us
36:46up out
36:47of the
36:47dunghill.
36:47All right,
36:48we have
36:49the Vintage
36:49Military
36:50Radio Network
36:50following ours,
36:52and so we
36:52want to
36:53stop at
36:53540,
36:54so I'm
36:54going to
36:55stop now
36:55for prayer.

37:13Thank you,
37:14Pastor Max.
