The Bible reading
Psalm 118
The study began with an introduction to Psalm 118 as a thanksgiving and processional psalm, describing David's journey to the temple to offer praise after divine deliverance. The group noted that this psalm was sung by the exiles returning from Babylon and serves as a pattern for public testimony and worship. The reading highlighted the psalm's structure, moving from recounting God's past help to entering the temple gates for sacrifice.
Insights
- Psalm 118:8 is often cited as the center verse of the Bible, containing the message that it is better to trust in the Lord than in man.
- The 'Hosanna' shouts during the triumphal entry were a direct quote from Psalm 118, linking the crowd's praise to the psalm's plea for salvation.
- Jesus is the cornerstone of the kingdom; those who reject Him are themselves rejected, while those who bow before Him are built upon Him.
- The absence of a physical lamb at the Last Supper points to Jesus as the true Lamb of God who would die for the world's sins.
- The stone imagery in Daniel 2 and Psalm 118 illustrates that God's kingdom will crush all opposing earthly kingdoms while blessing those who submit to it.
- Believers are commissioned to share the 'word of reconciliation,' recognizing that salvation is available to all who call upon the name of the Lord.

6:09All right, we are going to get started with the West Coast Bible study.
6:12This is WB7MAX.
6:13We are in Psalm 118 today.
6:16But before we read Psalm 118, we're going to open in prayer.
6:19And so, Kevin, KB7ZXN, if you could open in prayer for us this morning.
6:22We should appreciate that.
6:23Go ahead, brother.
6:24Thank you.
6:26Let us bow our heads in prayer.
6:29Most gracious Father, we come to you most humbly to this day.
6:34Thank you for the opportunity to gather together to look into your Word.
6:38To look into your Word today, this special psalm that probably more than any other psalm
6:45enlightens us on Jesus' last week on earth.
6:51Father, we thank you so much for hearing our prayers.
6:56Lord, we thank you so much for forgiving our sins.
6:59And, Lord, we thank you so much for our Savior that makes it all possible to have that forgiveness,
7:05to receive the gift of your grace.
7:07Father, to you be all the glory for all that is good with each and every one.
7:11And ask that you bless our hearts, open our eyes of understanding.
7:16In Jesus' holy name we pray.
7:18Amen.
7:19Amen.
7:20Thank you so much for that.
7:21I appreciate that, Kevin, a lot.
7:23Okay.
7:23We're in Psalm 118.
7:25And before we read the psalm, I want to give a little introduction to it so we know what it's about.
7:29This psalm is a thanksgiving psalm.
7:33The opening sentence calls on us to give thanks to the Lord.
7:39David had experienced some sort of a great deliverance from his enemies by God.
7:45And so in this psalm, he talks about that he had called upon the Lord when he was being attacked
7:52and God had preserved him and God had protected him and God had provided him with victory over his enemies.
8:00That could have been any number of events that occurred throughout David's life,
8:05but nevertheless, he's referring to one of them for sure.
8:08And so David's acutely conscious that God had taken his part, that God had helped him,
8:15so that he was able to triumph over those who hated him.
8:20And this help from the Lord he had received gave him great confidence
8:24that the Lord would preserve him in the future as well.
8:28And so what the Lord had done for David in the past, David was confident that God would do in the future.
8:34And so he's giving thanks to the Lord.
8:37So in light of what the Lord has done for David, David has this intense desire to return thanks.
8:43And he has an intense desire to worship the Lord.
8:46And he has an intense desire to give glory to the Lord.
8:49And so as he proceeds up to the temple, he recounts what God had done for him in verses 1 to 18.
8:59And so here's David.
9:01He's traveling toward the temple.
9:03And in verses 1 to 18, he's talking about what God has done for him.
9:07He's talking about what God is going to do for him.
9:11And he's returning praise and thanks and worship to the Lord.
9:15Well, he then arrives at the gate of the temple and demands entrance so that he might worship the Lord.
9:23In verse 19, notice he says,
9:26And so having entered the temple, he then engages in worship and in sacrifice.
9:34And he involves others in that worship and sacrifice in verses 20 to 29.
9:40So there's progress in this psalm.
9:44In fact, it's a processional psalm, one to be sung as the people moved toward the temple.
9:52So as they're going up to the temple, they're singing verses 1 to 18.
9:56When they get to the temple, they sing verses 19 and following.
10:01Well, here's a pattern and example for all of us to follow.
10:05When we pray to the Lord for help and the Lord delivers us through our distress,
10:10we need to give public testimony of what he did for us.
10:14And then we need to go to church and offer praise and worship and thanks for his mercy that is never ending,
10:21which he shows to us over and over again.
10:23So this psalm was not only composed and used by David,
10:28it was also used by the exiles who had returned from Babylon.
10:34And so in Ezra chapter 3, verses 9 to 11,
10:38this psalm was sung when the foundation of the temple of the Lord was laid,
10:43and the people desired to give thanks to the Lord for God's great deliverance of them from Babylon
10:48and to give thanks for God's great goodness in allowing them to rebuild the temple.
10:55And so testimony and praise and worship,
10:57these are the constant theme of the people of God all throughout the ages.
11:03And of course, there's also a messianic component to this psalm as well,
11:08which we will be looking at as we go along through it.
11:13All right, that's a little introduction to our psalm,
11:16a little perspective on what this psalm is about
11:20and about the movement that takes place within it.
11:23All right, I'm going to ask Will Keelamike, 5 Foxtrot.
11:26Will, if you could read for us, please, Psalm 118.
11:31Okay, M5, that's all I'll be reading Psalm 118 from NASB 95.
11:37Verse 1,
11:38Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his lovingkindness is everlasting.
11:44O let Israel say, His lovingkindness is everlasting.
11:48O let the house of Aaron say, His lovingkindness is everlasting.
11:53O let those who fear the Lord say, His lovingkindness is everlasting.
11:58Verse 5,
11:58From my distress I call upon the Lord.
12:02The Lord answered me and set me in a large place.
12:06The Lord is for me.
12:07I will not fear.
12:08What can man do to me?
12:09The Lord is for me among those who help me.
12:13Therefore, I will look with satisfaction on those who hate me.
12:16It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.
12:20It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.
12:25Verse 10,
12:25All nations surround me in the name of the Lord.
12:28I will surely cut them off.
12:30They surrounded me.
12:31Yes, they surrounded me in the name of the Lord.
12:34I will surely cut them off.
12:36They surrounded me like bees.
12:38They were extinguished as a fire of thorns in the name of the Lord.
12:41I will surely cut them off.
12:44They pushed me violently so that I was fallen.
12:47But the Lord helped me.
12:49The Lord is my strength in song, and He has become my salvation.
12:53Verse 15,
12:53The sound of joyful shouting and salvation is in the tent of the righteous.
12:58The right hand of the Lord does valiantly.
13:02The right hand of the Lord is exalted.
13:04The right hand of the Lord does valiantly.
13:07I will not die, but live, and tell of the works of the Lord.
13:11The Lord has disciplined me severely, but He has not given me over to death.
13:19Verse 19,
13:20Open to me the gates of righteousness.
13:22I shall enter through them.
13:24I shall give thanks to the Lord.
13:26This is the gate of the Lord.
13:27The righteous will enter through it.
13:29I shall give thanks to you, for you have answered me, and you have become my salvation.
13:36Verse 22,
13:36The sound which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.
13:42This is the Lord's doing.
13:43It is marvelous in our eyes.
13:45This is the day which the Lord has made.
13:47Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
13:50O Lord, do save.
13:51We beseech you.
13:52O Lord, we beseech you.
13:54Do send prosperity.
13:56Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
14:01We have blessed you from the house of the Lord.
14:04The Lord is God.
14:05He has given us light.
14:07And by the festival, sacrifice the courage to the thorns of the altar.
14:12You are my God, and I give thanks to you.
14:15You are my God.
14:16I extol you.
14:18Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good.
14:20For His loving kindness is everlasting.
14:22I think that ends Psalm 118, KM 5F.
14:30Well, KM 5F, great reading.
14:32Thank you for that.
14:33Really appreciate that.
14:34All right.
14:34Any comments on Psalm 118?
14:36Please come down at your call, Sergeant.
14:39KB7 Zedickson.
14:41Kevin, KB7 Zedickson.
14:42Lead us out.
14:44Yeah, I'll get it going.
14:46What a wonderful and powerful psalm here.
14:48You know, we often think of Psalm 22 as just really reflecting Jesus on the cross
14:58and the events that took place there, you know, hundreds of years,
15:04long before even crucifixion was a way of punishment.
15:08Yeah, it gives an account of Jesus on the cross.
15:12Well, this psalm, in like manner, really shows us, like no other psalm, the last week of Jesus.
15:23And, of course, we, I think, recognize the principle and the understanding that Jesus was the cornerstone
15:32that was rejected, the foundation stone, upon this rock I shall build my church.
15:37And, of course, he quoted it himself in Matthew 21, 42, I think it's Mark 12, 10, Luke 20, 17,
15:46and, of course, repeated again in Acts and Peter, even in his epistle there.
15:52So this is an important principle.
15:55But, again, long before these events took place, we see a picture, I think, really an understanding
16:05given to us of the last week of our Lord and Savior before his crucifixion.
16:12KB 7, Zedickson.
16:16Yeah, Kevin, thank you so much for bringing out that connection, the Messianic connection there.
16:21And, as you said, when we go through the book of Psalms, there are a lot of these psalms are what we call Messianic psalms.
16:29They're about Jesus.
16:30And, as Kevin pointed out, Psalm 22 is about Jesus on the cross.
16:36And Psalm 118 is about that triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
16:40And, of course, that final conflict with the Pharisees.
16:43And, as Kevin pointed out, after the triumphal entry in Matthew 21, 42, Jesus quotes this verse, verse 22.
16:54The stone which the builders refused or rejected has become the headstone of the corner that the Lord's doing.
17:01It's marvelous in our eyes.
17:03And so, of course, Jesus is that cornerstone.
17:06And, of course, he's the foundation of the whole kingdom of God.
17:12And the very foundation of the kingdom of God, the Pharisees rejected.
17:18And, of course, they crucified him and hung him on the cross.
17:20So, we read, really, about Jesus here approaching the temple and the triumphal entry.
17:28And then the conflict he has with the Pharisees.
17:31And, of course, because of their rejection of him, that resulted, ultimately, in his crucifixion.
17:37So, if you're going to look at chronology, as Kevin well pointed out, Psalm 118 comes first.
17:45And then Psalm 22 follows after in prophetically foreshadowing the triumphal entry, the conflict, and then the crucifixion.
17:56And, Kevin, thanks for pointing out that New Testament connection with Jesus.
18:01All right.
18:01Other comments, please come now.
18:17WB7VZL.
18:18Roger.
18:19Please go ahead.
18:19This is some trivia, Bible trivia, but apparently someone told me in the past that verse 8 is the very center of the Bible.
18:36But just before that, in verse 5, and especially 6, is a quote used in Hebrews chapter 13, verse 6.
18:58And, I love that.
19:03I've used that in visitation, in pastoral visitation.
19:08It is such a powerful comfort, I believe, to those that hear this quote in Hebrews 13, verse 6.
19:19Yeah, if the Lord is for me, I will not fear.
19:24What can man do to me?
19:28Yeah, it really comes down to that.
19:32So, those, I appreciate the reference that Kevin highlighted there.
19:39I needed that.
19:41But I really think that verse 6 as well is a wonderful promise.
19:48WB7VZL and the group.
19:51Amen.
19:52Roger, thank you so much for that comment.
19:54Yeah, Roger was referring to the fact, I think it's in Haley's Bible Handbook, Roger's, I recall, that it says that, yes, verse 8 is the center verse of the entire Bible.
20:06There's the same number of verses in the Bible prior to Psalm 118, verse 8, as there is following Psalm 118, verse 8.
20:15So, and what a great verse for the center of the Bible.
20:20It's better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.
20:24And really, those are the only two conceivable possible objects of trust in the universe, aren't they?
20:31We can either trust in the Lord, or we can trust in people, and there are no other objects of trust beside them.
20:39And anything else that people happen to be trusting in comes from one of those two sources.
20:48And so, the problem is, is that people wind up worshiping themselves or other people instead of worshiping the Lord.
20:58Thanks for pointing that out.
21:00And also, this verse 6, yes, that is quoted in Hebrews 13, and verse 6.
21:07And I'll just read those verses.
21:09We'll start out at Hebrews 13, 5.
21:12Hebrews 13, 5 says,
21:14Let your manner of life be without covetousness, and be content with such things that you have.
21:21For he has said, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee, so that we may boldly say, and here's the quotation,
21:29The Lord is my helper.
21:30I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
21:35And so, all threats arise from people.
21:39But God is bigger than any of those people.
21:41And so, in verse 6, David is expressing a strong sense that, number one, the Lord is on his side.
21:49And, number two, the Lord is able to protect him from any other threat.
21:54Because, of course, no other threat is stronger than God, wiser than God, or more capable than God.
22:01And so, if God is for him, who can be against him?
22:04And so, God is going to help David, and God is going to help people who help David.
22:10And, therefore, how can his enemy possibly triumph over him?
22:14So, the good news is, is that no man can harm you when the Lord has purpose to protect you.
22:22Instead, the Lord is going to harm your enemies, and they will not escape.
22:28So, great promise there in verse 6.
22:32Roger, thanks for pointing that out.
22:34All right, other comments on this passage.
22:36Please come down with your call, sir.
22:39KM5S.
22:42I will.
22:43KM5S.
22:43Please go ahead.
22:44Yeah, another Psalm, Psalm 56, 4.
22:49Adds a little twist to that.
22:50In God, whose words I praise, in God I trust, I will not be afraid.
22:55What can mere mortals do to me?
22:58I thought I'd just add that verse.
22:59KM5S.
23:01Yeah, what can mere mortals do?
23:05Yeah, and we need to remember who God is and who people are,
23:09and the vast, vast distance between them,
23:14in terms of power, in terms of wisdom, in terms of capability.
23:19And, you know, it's like trusting in an elephant versus trusting in an ant, right?
23:27I guess that's about the biggest contrast I can come up with from a human analogy.
23:33In the strength of an elephant, the size versus an ant?
23:38Yeah, trusting in man is like trusting in the ant,
23:40and trusting in God is like trusting in the elephant.
23:43But, Will, thanks for pointing out the use of that additional word, mere man.
23:48All right, other comments?
23:49Please come down.
23:50There's Zedixson.
23:53KB7, TV.
23:54Kevin, KB7, Kevin, KB7, Zedixson.
23:56Go ahead.
23:57Yeah, Mark's in there, too.
23:58I just heard.
23:59Boy, what wonderful comments and verses.
24:05And it is so true and so rich.
24:07So many important principles in here.
24:09And, you know, reflecting on Jesus.
24:12You know, we're not to fear the one that can take our temporal life,
24:17but fear him that, you know, decides on our eternity.
24:22And that's where our trust is.
24:25And I think you alluded to a point, too, there, Max, a moment ago.
24:30And the principle, kind of the inverse of this, too, is trusting in man.
24:35Not only fearing those that can harm us in this world, but we have our trust in our Lord, who is the creator.
24:45And, but trusting also in man, not only fearing, but trusting in ourselves, which is very dangerous, granted.
24:54We've talked about before, too, which is the inverse.
24:57But it's just as dangerous, as I've used the illustration before.
25:03We'll not ever see anyone in glory singing, I did it my way, strutting through heaven.
25:09And because none of us do it our way, there's only God's way.
25:16And here's an example of the verse, or the psalm that demonstrates what it took, the text, to trigger ourselves to the Lord.
25:29KB 7, to that extent.
25:30Yeah, Kevin, thank you for pointing out that song that was so prominent when I was young.
25:40I think Frank Sinatra sang that, I did it my way.
25:45Yeah, those who have that as a philosophy of life wind up in hell.
25:52We have to do things God's way.
25:55And, you know, here's the thing, as you well said, let's not trust in other men.
26:00Let's not trust in ourselves.
26:03Thank you for pointing that out.
26:05And oftentimes people say, I don't trust anyone but myself.
26:09Well, better not trust yourself either.
26:11Because the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked, and it's not going to do you any favors either.
26:17And so you have to decide whether you're going to trust in God, whether you're going to trust in men, or whether you're going to trust in yourself.
26:26So you have to ask yourself, who has more power, God or men?
26:31Who has more resources, God or men?
26:35Who has more wisdom, God or men?
26:39Who has more faithfulness?
26:41Who has more love?
26:43Who has more goodness?
26:44Who has more mercy?
26:46Who has more righteousness?
26:47It's good on the list, right?
26:49And when you look at all of the capabilities, when you look at all of the resources, what you realize is that it's foolish in the extreme to do things your way or to trust in yourself or to trust in anyone else other than the Lord.
27:07So, yeah, Kevin, that song is one that was attached to my childhood because it used to be played in my home by my father who liked Frank Sinatra.
27:20Well, a little biographical background there on me, and I had to just completely turn away from that rebellious, defiant, self-important attitude and humble myself before the Lord and trust in Him alone.
27:34All right, other comments, please come now.
27:38Mark was in there.
27:43Okay, hang on one second.
27:45There may have been somebody.
27:46I think Mark KJ7, PVT.
27:48Stand by, everybody.
27:49All right, I am back with you.
28:04Mark KJ7, PVT.
28:06I think you had a comment.
28:07Mark, please come ahead.
28:11Yeah, thanks, Max.
28:12Here we're reading again.
28:17I guess we can take a couple of seconds here to put ourselves back into the upper room and we can listen to Jesus sing these songs.
28:29There were 113, 114, 115, 116, 117, 118.
28:36One thing that kind of comes out here is that in the Old Testament, it's recorded that they would eat the Passover lamb during the gospel.
28:54There's nothing that is said about the lamb, only the bread and the vine.
28:59And that's because the lamb was there serving them, he was on the way to the cross as the lamb of God to die.
29:09And in Psalm 118, it says that during that night, the Passover cup was passed around seven times.
29:26And the seventh time it came to him, our Lord said, I'll not drink of this cup with you.
29:33And he passed it on.
29:35He said, I'll drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.
29:39He had already said that he would take the cup of salvation and he took that on the cross.
29:47And Christ is the lamb of God who shed his blood.
29:51And the cup is the covenant of his blood.
29:55That bitter cup on the night, on that night, that our cup might be sweet.
30:01I'll come back to you.
30:03Master Max.
30:05Mark, thank you for that comment.
30:07Mark was saying that this is the final hymn that would have been sung at the Passover meal.
30:13Hang on.
30:16This is the final psalm that would have been sung at the Passover meal.
30:18They sang Psalm 113, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18, where they passed the cup seven times and they sang a psalm with each passing of the cup.
30:31And so there's no mention, Mark said, of a lamb being at the Passover meal in the upper room.
30:42And, of course, Jesus is the lamb of God.
30:44John 129, behold the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
30:49And so this is a psalm that prays for salvation.
30:58Verse 25, save now, I beseech thee, O Lord.
31:02I beseech thee, sin now, prosperity.
31:06Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
31:08And you remember that that's exactly what they sang in Matthew chapter 20 when Jesus was riding in on the donkey.
31:17And remember, they were spreading their clothing in the way and they were waving palm branches.
31:23And they said, you know, Hosanna to the Lord.
31:27And that word Hosanna means save I pray.
31:29And so during the triumphal entry, verses 25 and 26 is what they were singing.
31:37It's what they were shouting.
31:40And so verse 27, God is the Lord, which has showed us light.
31:45Bind the sacrifice with cords even to the horns of the altar.
31:50And, of course, Jesus was going to be bound as a sacrifice on the cross in order to redeem us from our sins.
31:59So, Mark, thank you for pointing out the connection between this psalm and the impending sacrifice of Jesus.
32:06And then, of course, that actual sacrifice that took place a few hours later when Jesus was actually brought to the cross.
32:16And so, Mark, good comment there.
32:19All right, any other comments?
32:20Please come down.
32:29Well, thank you, Mark, for sharing that.
32:48You know, we've been pointing that out through each of these psalms, the connection to Christ during these events
32:56and during the Passover dinner here in the upper room.
33:03But it really cannot be understated how significant and prophetic these events are
33:11because it is here or there in the upper room and this last week where all of these events are coming together
33:20that are sung about at Passover year after year after year.
33:26And so, these are part of the lives and the understanding.
33:32Of course, in this time, the majority of the Jews did not make that connection.
33:39And some certainly did later on there, including Paul and others.
33:45But, you know, these disciples, these apostles that sat there in the room with Christ on the night before the crucifixion,
34:00can you imagine through the rest of their lives the understanding?
34:06And, of course, we know the Lord stayed around 40 days after his resurrection to educate them
34:13and open up the Old Testament, open up the Scriptures, and every page teaching them about him.
34:21And as we look back at the Scriptures in the Old Testament and guided by the same Holy Spirit,
34:27every page teaching us about Jesus.
34:29And here's a perfect example of that as we read through this, teaching us about our Lord and Savior
34:36right here in this very psalm and these very psalms that they sang at the Last Supper there.
34:43KB 7, ZXN.
34:47Yeah, you know, thank you, Kevin.
34:49KB 7, ZXN.
34:50Well said.
34:51I think that, you know, you and Mark have both pointed out, and rightly so,
34:56the connection between this psalm and the New Testament,
35:00and especially the ministry of our Lord Jesus.
35:02You know, anyone who is acquainted with the New Testament knows that verses 22 to 26 of Psalm 118
35:11is quoted extensively in the New Testament.
35:15And it's directly applied to the Lord Jesus Christ, of whom David was a type and shadow.
35:20Now, everything that's said in this psalm is true of David, okay?
35:25He was the cornerstone of the kingdom of Israel that the builders rejected.
35:32You remember Absalom tried to overthrow him.
35:34They chased him out in the wilderness.
35:36And now he comes back, and he sits on his throne, rightly so, etc.
35:42But really, when you look at Matthew chapter 21, in verses 1 through 43,
35:52you see this psalm quoted extensively and applied to the Lord Jesus.
35:58You know, you have the parable of the husbandman, right, in Matthew 21, 33 and 43,
36:03where the husbandman is Israel, and the heir is Jesus Christ.
36:07And you remember they rejected and killed the son.
36:10And Christ then says he's the stone, which the builders, the Jewish leaders, rejected.
36:16And then this passage is quoted by Peter in Acts 4, verses 1 to 12.
36:23And the Jewish leaders are, once again, the builders who rejected Jesus Christ.
36:28And then Paul uses it in Ephesians 2, verses 19 to 21.
36:35Jesus Christ is the chief cornerstone of the church, the temple.
36:40And then Peter uses it in 1 Peter 2, verses 3 to 8,
36:44that Christ is the living stone that the Jews rejected, but he became the chief cornerstone.
36:49And so, whether it's Matthew, or whether it's in the book of Acts,
36:55with the preaching that goes on there, Paul in Ephesians, Peter in his epistle,
37:00this passage is quoted over and over and over again in the New Testament,
37:06being applied to the Lord Jesus Christ.
37:11And then, of course, it's applied earlier in Matthew 21, 1 to 16, about the triumphal entry.
37:17And so, verses 25 and 26, as I mentioned earlier,
37:22that's what the people were saying as Jesus rode in on the donkey.
37:26And they say, you know, Hosanna, save now, I pray thee.
37:32And even the children in the temple were singing this song as they praised the Lord Jesus.
37:39You remember, the Pharisees were really upset.
37:41What are these kids doing praising Jesus?
37:44You know, you need to tell them to be quiet.
37:47And Jesus said, ha, if they didn't say these things, the stones of the earth would cry out.
37:52So, the point is, is that the world today rejects Jesus Christ as unworthy to play any role
37:59in their little personal kingdom that they're building.
38:02So, God has made Jesus the chief cornerstone of his building,
38:06and those who reject him are themselves rejected.
38:13And so, I think the point we need to make here is that we need to make Jesus the chief cornerstone in our life.
38:19He's the one around which we build our lives,
38:23and he's the one upon which we build our lives.
38:27And so, if you go away with anything today from this song,
38:31go away with this perspective.
38:34Christ is the cornerstone of my life.
38:37I'm orienting all the rest of my life around him,
38:40and I'm building all the rest of my life upon him.
38:43And he's the central reference point to which I look and measure everything,
38:50and he's the foundation upon which I build everything in my life.
38:55All right, thank you guys for making that connection with the New Testament
39:00and with the Lord Jesus Christ.
39:03All right, any other comments on our passage, please come down.
39:13TJ7, PVT.
39:16Mark, TJ7, PVT, please go ahead.
39:19And I'd like to just read from 2 Corinthians chapter 5, starting at verse 16.
39:32Sorry, starting at verse 17.
39:35Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.
39:41Old things have passed away.
39:43Behold, all things have become new.
39:45Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ
39:52and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
39:58And this is an interesting part right here.
40:00That is, the world of Christ reconciling to the world,
40:06reconciling the world to himself,
40:10not imputing their trespasses to them,
40:13and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
40:18That's the job we have now, the ministry of reconciliation.
40:22And the important part that I see here is that God was in Christ
40:29when Jesus left that room.
40:33And, of course, he was in Christ.
40:36God was in Christ on the cross, reconciling the world to himself.
40:41That's the man.
40:42TJ7, PVT.
40:45Yeah, Mark, thank you for that.
40:47Because of the saving work of Jesus, we now have a message, don't we?
40:51Mark was pointing out 2 Corinthians 5, verses 17 through 20,
41:00and how that if we're in Christ, we're a new creation.
41:05The old things have passed away, all things become new,
41:07and now we have a ministry of reconciliation.
41:11And Mark said when Jesus left the upper room and went to die on the cross,
41:15God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself,
41:20and has committed to us the ministry of reconciliation.
41:23So, you know, we read the Bible certainly to apply it to ourselves primarily,
41:29and that's what we should do.
41:31But then we also bring that wonderful message to other folks as well.
41:36And so we need to speak up.
41:40And, you know, we need to say, verse 23,
41:43this is the Lord's doing.
41:45It is marvelous in our eyes.
41:48And this is what God has done for me.
41:50I'm amazed that he would save somebody like me.
41:55And you know what?
41:56He can save you too.
41:57And because his mercy is great.
42:00And as Mark said, reconciling the world,
42:03there's no one that is excluded from the gospel message,
42:06but they that exclude themselves.
42:09It says in Romans 10, 13,
42:11whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
42:15And so those whosoever's are in the Bible
42:19to encourage anyone and everyone to recognize the largeness
42:24of the provision Christ has made on the cross
42:28and the universal invitation that comes out of that
42:32to every kindred, tongue, tribe, nation, rich, poor, black, white,
42:37male, female, old, young, it doesn't matter.
42:41If you're a human and you are breathing,
42:45salvation is available for you.
42:47Because even though your sin has abounded,
42:50grace has much more abounded.
42:52And our sins at the very worst are finite.
42:56But God's grace and mercy is infinite.
42:59And that's the word of reconciliation Mark's talking about there,
43:02that you can be saved.
43:04And believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, it says in Acts 16, 31,
43:09and you will be saved.
43:11So, Mark, thank you for pointing out the fact
43:14that this is not just a historical fact.
43:17This is a transformative work that God does in our life.
43:20And then it's a commission that he's given to us
43:24to go out and preach the gospel to the world.
43:27Great comment, Mark.
43:28Thank you for that.
43:29All right.
43:30Any other comments?
43:31Please come down.
43:32KB7, Zedixen.
43:35Kevin, KB7, Zedixen.
43:36Go ahead.
43:36Well, and, yeah, thank you, Mark, and thank you, Max,
43:41for backing that even further.
43:45And I'll even kind of build on that, too, to say, you know,
43:49Christ did die to reconcile all creation to him.
43:54And, Mark, I think that's an important point that you made, too.
43:58And we see that in probably the most familiar verse of the Bible in John 3, 16,
44:06where God so loved the world.
44:08The world there is translated from cosmos, meaning all creation.
44:14He reconciled all creation back then.
44:18It falls from sin, from Adam's sin, but all creation.
44:22But his focus is on, as you pointed out, Max, the whosoever.
44:27So he redeemed all creation, reconciled all creation back to him
44:32that was affected by the fault of sin.
44:35But yet the focus is always on the whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord
44:43shall be saved.
44:45KB7, Zedixen.
44:48Yeah, amen.
44:50And, you know, since this psalm refers to the triumphal entry,
44:55and you can read about the triumphal entry of Jesus in Matthew 21, 1 to 16,
44:59and this psalm was quoted there in his triumphal entry in verse 9.
45:08It says,
45:08And the multitudes that went before and that followed cried, saying,
45:13Hosanna to the Son of David.
45:15Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
45:17Hosanna in the highest.
45:19And as I said, that word Hosanna means save, I pray.
45:23And so they're quoting Psalm 118, verses 25 to 26.
45:28And then the children, in Matthew 21, 15, the children says,
45:35When the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things he did,
45:39and the children crying in the temple and saying,
45:41Hosanna to the Son of David.
45:43Once again, there's a quote of verse 25 of Psalm 118.
45:46It says they were sore displeased.
45:48Well, the point I want to make is this.
45:51Because, as our psalm tells us, that we need to have Jesus make a triumphal entry into our lives.
45:59You know, he entered into Jerusalem as a king,
46:03and he was, of course, the lord of the temple.
46:06He went in and cleansed the temple, as you recall.
46:09And then he presented himself as the king of the Jews.
46:16And, of course, he is that cornerstone that is the foundation of the kingdom of God.
46:21And we know that the Jews rejected that cornerstone, which is what our psalm is talking about.
46:27And they crucified him.
46:29Well, every one of us has a decision to make about the Lord Jesus.
46:33Is he going to have a triumphal entry into my life?
46:36Is he going to sit upon the throne of my heart?
46:40Is he going to be the temple at which I worship?
46:45And is he going to rule and reign in my life?
46:49Or am I going to reject him?
46:50Am I going to kick him to the curb like the Pharisees did and just toss him out of my life?
46:56Well, you know, you could do that temporarily.
46:59They had him out of their life for about three days.
47:02And then he was resurrected, right?
47:04And he's coming again.
47:06And he will forever be in their life, but not as a savior, but as a judge.
47:13Not as a gracious savior, but as a condemning judge.
47:17And so the point is, you don't get rid of the chief cornerstone.
47:22Either you bow before it or you get crushed by it.
47:25And so that's the point Jesus goes on to make there in Matthew chapter 21.
47:32And he says, verse 44, whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken, but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
47:42And so we need to be broken before the Lord.
47:45We need to be humble.
47:46We need to be contrite.
47:47We need to confess our sins and ask him to save us.
47:50And then we will be built on that stone.
47:54So the stone doesn't change.
47:56It isn't affected by what people do.
48:00You can either bow to the stone and receive blessing, or you can rebel against the stone and be crushed by it.
48:06And that's the point that Jesus is making there.
48:09So, you know, as you study Psalm 118, read Matthew 21, because Psalm 118 is describing prophetically what happened in Psalm 118.
48:24All right.
48:25I think we are out of time.
48:27We need to go to prayer.
48:28Any final prayer requests before Jerry leads us in prayer?
48:31Please come now with your call sign.
48:32That would be seven of these at all.
48:39Roger, that would be seven of these at all.
48:40Go ahead.
48:42As Jesus was well known to remember the book of Daniel, there is allusion to his coming, his second coming at the end of Daniel 2, where the stone and the image becomes the kingdom.
49:00So there is that dimension, too, which is kind of a wild experience to contemplate over.
49:09Yeah, well said.
49:12There's a lot of imagery in the Bible about God being a rock and about Jesus being the stone.
49:18And as you well said to Daniel 2, these four kingdoms are there, and then this stone is cut out without hands.
49:25It grows to fill the whole earth, and it crushes all the kingdoms of this earth so that the kingdoms of this world become the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ.
49:33So thanks for connecting that imagery of that stone that crushes all those who stand in opposition to it.
49:41But, of course, it blesses all of those who bow before it.
49:45Thank you for that.
49:46By the way, the net would like to acknowledge Dave, K-E-7-W-K-I.

56:47as well as those who stood by to give us a clear operating frequency.
56:51We meet here seven days a week at 6 a.m. in order to read the Scriptures,
56:55understand their meaning, message, and application,
56:57and then pray for grace and mercy to be able to live out what we learned
57:00and for God to meet the needs of those that are in our circle of fellowship.
57:05I'll be returning this frequency now to regular amateur use.
57:08This is WB-70MX.
57:10I'll be clear and standing by.
57:21Thank you, Max.
57:22Good job as usual.
57:23K-I-6-W-X-T.
57:25Keep my heart and informed.
57:28All right.
57:28Real good, Joe.
57:29Thank you for that.
57:30And, yep, these passages every single day work little changes in our lives
57:36and increases in our understanding.
57:38And it's kind of like putting a dollar a day in the bank.
57:42Over a lifetime, it adds up.
57:43So, Joe, appreciate you and appreciate your feedback and your encouragement.
57:49All right.
57:49WB-70MX.
57:50Anybody want to chat?
57:51Go ahead.
57:52I'm going to send a little video to Dan and see if he can get it up your way.
58:08You might enjoy a practice pass in one of my friend's cars out there in Bakersfield yesterday that went really well.
58:17A little 100% nitro burner.
58:19So, maybe you'll get a load out of looking at that.
58:22I'll give it to Dan.
58:24Yeah, copy that, Joe.
58:25My email address on QRZ is good.
58:29So, if you want to go to QRZ, you can just click on my email and send it directly to me.
58:33But, yeah, by all means, send it to Dan, too, for sure.
58:36Over.
58:37Yeah, I could do it that way.
58:38That would be even better.
58:39All right.
58:40Very good.
58:51The name of the car is Panic.
58:54That's a pretty good name.
58:58That is a good name, yep.
59:01You know what they do?
59:02They need to name one Scalded Cat.
59:04You know, my dad always used to say, boy, he ran like a scalded cat.
59:10I don't know where that term came from, but it's part of my boyhood.
59:14And so, anybody who's moving fast is moving like a scalded cat.
59:18Over.
59:20Yeah, I've heard scalded dog before, but a cat would be even faster, huh?
59:25Yeah, yeah, it would.
59:28Actually, it's kind of a gruesome term when you think of it.
59:32It just popped in my head.
59:33I haven't thought of that term in 35 or 40 years, but I was just thinking about names
59:39for items that get up and go quick.
59:41That's all.
59:44You know, another one I heard growing up was a spotted goat.
59:48It would run like a spotted goat.
59:50Or a raped ape.
59:53Oh, yeah, right, yep.
59:55Anything that could rape an ape, I'd be running fast, too, wouldn't you?
59:58Yeah, that's a little gruesome.
60:02But in any event, yeah, Panic, that's a good name for a car.
60:07Yeah, I imagine they have lots of interesting names on those cars.
60:11Well, the name of mine is Ridge Runner.
60:14That's the guys that run the moonshine back in the day out in West Virginia and places like that.
60:19But being that it burns alcohol.
60:22Oh, yeah, I copied that.
60:23That makes a lot of sense.
60:24Yeah, back in the Appalachian haulers, they used to brew moonshine during Prohibition.
60:30And, yeah, they had to run from the feds who were trying to get their piece of the action there.
60:37So, interesting.
60:39That's a good name.
60:40Thanks, Ridge Runner.
60:41Yep, for alcohol burner.
60:43That makes a lot of sense.
60:46The other car in this video you're going to see, the other car they have is pretty much a twin to it.
60:52It's been around forever.
60:54And that's 100% nitro burner, too.
60:57Its name is Tramp.
60:59I don't know everybody that, but it fits the car, if you've ever seen it.
61:04Yeah, yeah.
61:08Yeah, well, it's probably a Tramp on the outside, but there's some pretty swift engineering on the inside of that.
61:14Some pretty precision stuff, if it's burning nitro.
61:18Gee, what the hell?
61:19Anybody else want to come in here?
61:21Come on, I'm going to stand by and listen to y'all.
61:23KIS-XWXT, good morning.
61:29Yeah, WB7MX here.
61:38Anybody else want to chat throughout your call sign?
61:40We'll be glad to talk.
61:41All right, well, Joe, I'm going to hit the road.
61:52Good talking to you, and looking forward to getting that video from you on my email.
61:57And we'll chat with you tomorrow, God willing.
61:59Hey, Joe, KI-6WXT, 73, WB7MX, all be clear and QRT.
62:06Very good, Max.
62:07Enjoy your day and stay dry.
62:09I don't know how the weather is going to be up there today, but we might get a little more rain, and that's going to go away.
62:15KI-6WXT, thank you, Max.
62:20Have a good day, Joe.
62:21WB7MX, clear.
62:22We'll be right back.
62:52We'll be right back.
63:22We'll be right back.
63:52We'll be right back.
64:22We'll be right back.
