The Bible reading

Psalm 119:33-64

The study focused on Psalm 119, verses 33 to 64, emphasizing the psalmist's prayer for God to teach him the way of His statutes. Participants discussed the necessity of being teachable, acknowledging human ignorance and the need for divine understanding to keep God's law. The discussion highlighted that God writes His laws on the hearts of believers through the New Covenant, enabling a desire to obey.

Insights

  • The New Covenant promise in Jeremiah 31 and Hebrews 8 explains why believers have a new desire to follow God's laws, as He writes them on their hearts.
  • While believers are personally still prone to sin, their record is considered undefiled because Christ removed their sins and will present them faultless before God.
  • The word 'surrender' was noted to mean moving to the winning side, illustrating the strategic benefit of yielding one's will to God.
  • Speaking the Word of God to those in authority is an act of love and recognition that God's word holds higher authority than any king's decree.
  • The progression from learning to doing is essential; understanding God's word enables believers to keep it, fulfilling the command to be doers and not just hearers.

0:00We'll be right back.
0:29Good morning to Steve, W6YSI in Challenge.
0:32How are you doing today, Steve?
0:34Good morning.
0:35I'm doing pretty good.
0:37Kind of sore from all the activity yesterday, you know,
0:40being in here and raking there and hauling there.
0:43Anyway, all is well.
0:45No prayer requests.
0:48Seemed like there was something I needed an update in regards to prayer requests,
0:53but if I remember them, I'll let you all know.
0:56I think it was an update on one, but I don't write it down.
1:00It goes away.
1:01It doesn't take long.
1:03Anyway, looking forward to the study.
1:06W6YSI.
1:10All right, Steve, real good.
1:11Good to have you with us.
1:13Yeah, let's see.
1:14I've got the prayer requests up here.
1:16Let me have a look.
1:17And let's see.
1:19Steve, W6YSI.
1:23Scroll down the list here.
1:25Yeah, well, pray for your wife, Leslie, to find out the cause of the leg pain that she has
1:30and for a good diagnosis from the doctor.
1:33So that's what I've got on the list here, Steve.
1:36Go ahead.
1:36Okay, that's good.
1:37Yeah, I'll just continue to pray for that because she needs to find out what that doctor knows
1:46or if the doctor knows anything.
1:48Anyway, there was a prayer request that I brought to the net concerning Danny Gay and his wife, Debbie.
2:00They're both home.
2:03Doctors have got her on blood centers.
2:07She's taking a lot of stuff like that, but it looks like it's going to be okay.
2:11So they're back home.
2:13So I guess we can just take that off at the present time.
2:20Yeah, you had mentioned yesterday that she had gotten back home and was out of the hospital,
2:25so I had removed it from the prayer request list due to that.
2:29So anyway, glad to hear that her blood clot situation is resolved and that she's back on level ground now.
2:35So, Steve, appreciate that update.
2:37Thank you for that.
2:39All right, WV7MX here looking for check-ins.
2:41Any more check-ins, please come now.
2:59All right, WV7MX here looking for check-ins.
3:29And good morning, Roger, WV7VJL.
3:35Good to hear your voice.
3:36How are we doing, brother?
3:38Well, I sure thank the Lord for the prayers yesterday.
3:43We went up to Dayton and spoke for their series of a month-long highlighting of their 150th year of existence.
3:53And they said a lot of people were gone, but I was quite pleased with the turnout and met some longtime friends, of course.
4:05But then a lot of them are resting in Jesus waiting for the resurrection.
4:10And so, anyway, but God blessed, I believe.
4:16And then I got through the half hour of prelude music with just the viola and myself.
4:23So I praise the Lord.
4:25Over.
4:27Well, that's really good, Roger.
4:29I'm glad your ministry and church went well yesterday.
4:31And God blessed the music playing.
4:34And, yeah, you know, we bid our fellow believers goodbye, but we're going to see them again soon.
4:44And that's a great comfort.
4:46So what a reunion that's going to be, Roger, when you meet back up again with your fellow believers
4:51and rejoice in the saving work of Jesus around the throne of grace in eternity.
4:57What a blessing that's going to be, and what a blessed hope it is.
5:01Roger, glad you made it safely, glad the ministry went well.
5:04Praise the Lord for that.
5:05All right, WB7MAX here.
5:07We'd like to acknowledge Philip Kasich, HSV.
5:10Good morning, Phil.
5:11Good to have you with us.
5:13See you there on the Utah SDR.
5:16All right, are there any other check-ins?
5:18Please come down.
5:19November 7, Bravo, Kilo Echo.
5:24Well, Jim, N7BKE, you must have smucked in a little bit this morning.
5:29Good to have you with us.
5:30How are you doing, brother?
5:31Real good, yep.
5:33I overslept.
5:34Like a little kitty come in and started meowing, and I said, ain't time to get up.
5:38And I looked at the clock, and it was 10 after 6.
5:41So I just got through getting a shower and stuff and getting ready to go feed him,
5:46and then I'll be going to church and Sunday school.
5:50Kevin, if Kevin's in there, are you coming to Sunday school and church?
5:58I guess he's not there.
6:00N7BKE will be clear.
6:04All right, real good, Jim.
6:05N7BKE.
6:06Yeah, Kevin checked in, and I'm sure he'll be there.
6:09He's just off getting coffee or something.
6:11All right, the net would like to know.
6:12It's Peter, KJ7BA.
6:14Good morning, Peter.
6:15Good to have you with us.
6:16See you there on the Utah SDR.
6:20All right, let's see.
6:21Who else do we have that haven't checked in?
6:23We've got Keith K7NEB.
6:25Yep, he's checked in.
6:26He's just listening today.
6:28His dog, Buck, is doing better.
6:30So praise the Lord for that.
6:32Who else do we have?
6:35Put on, put on.
6:36Okay, I think we've got everybody checked in that has a call sign there on Utah.
6:40And I'll check Hustle Bay in a minute, but I'm up to my ears in alligators right now.
6:47We are about ready to start the Bible study.
6:50Are there any last-minute check-in?
6:51Please come now.
6:52Kilo, Kilo, Kilo, 7, Oscar, Quebec, Quebec.
6:58And good morning, Ted.
7:00Good to hear your voice.
7:01Great signal as always.
7:02How you doing?
7:03Oh, I'm doing real good this morning.
7:05Woke up at about 4 o'clock, and I've been checking out all the different nets and people
7:10I hear out there meeting some new folks, which is always just most of the fun is meeting
7:19people out here.
7:21Thursday's going good.
7:23Get my second cup of coffee going and listening and having a wonderful day.
7:29KK7OQQ.
7:32All right, Ted.
7:33KK7OQQ.
7:34Copy that.
7:35Got you checked in.
7:36And we are doing well.
7:37For those of you who check into NetLogger, NetLogger is not up today.
7:41Not sure what's going on with that, but I'm sure Eric KK7ES is working on it.
7:47So no NetLogger today, but hopefully that will show up here eventually.
7:53I'm monitoring that to see if and when it comes back online.
7:58All right, WB7MX here, NetControl for the West Coast Bible Study.
8:02We're in Psalm 119, verses 33 to 64, and we're going to read that in a minute.
8:09But before we do, we want to open our Bible study in prayer today.
8:12And so, Bert, W7RKD, could you please open a prayer for us today?
8:16Go ahead there, Bert.
8:18Yes, Max.
8:19It's W7RKD.
8:21This is our heads.
8:21Thank you.
8:51And in consuming this word, this daily bread that we get that helps us through our day.
8:58And may we impart that upon others to ensure it is not for us to keep, Lord.
9:03It is also for us to give away and to give that to the lost and give them hope,
9:10just as you have given us hope and others also in following you.
9:14And may our light shine bright today, Lord.
9:18And it be all about you and less about us.
9:22In Jesus Christ's holy name we pray.
9:24Amen.
9:27Amen.
9:28Thank you so much for that prayer, Bert.
9:29Really appreciate that a lot.
9:31All right.
9:32We are in Psalm 119, verses 33 to 64.
9:36Now, I gave an introduction to that yesterday.
9:39I won't be giving that introduction again.
9:41But just suffice to say is that this psalm is a prayer to God about the Word of God.
9:49And what's interesting is all the different synonyms that are used in this psalm to describe the scriptures.
9:59And so we have the word, a word used to describe the scriptures, the word law, the word testimony,
10:07statutes, commandments, precepts, judgment, way, truth.
10:15These are all synonyms for the scriptures that are used.
10:20And so these terms are all slightly different from one another,
10:25but they're not to be sharply distinguished from each other either.
10:28And what they do is provide literary variety for describing the Word of God
10:33so as to avoid repetitious redundancy while at the same time showing the rich, multifaceted nature of the Word of God.
10:42So as I said, except for five verses, every verse in this psalm mentions the Word of God
10:48and what the psalmist's relationship is to it and to the God who inspired that Word.
10:55So that is a little bit of additional information that we didn't give yesterday in introducing the psalm.
11:03And as we read this, we can make it our prayer.
11:07If you're ever cold-hearted and you don't know how to pray and you don't know what to pray about,
11:12just make Psalm 119 your prayer to God.
11:16And you'll find your heart warmed, you'll find yourself drawn closer to God,
11:21and you'll find yourself reconnected with both God and His Word.
11:25And so we love the Word of God, we love the God of the Word,
11:29and that is what this psalm is all about.
11:33All right, it is time for us to read our section today.
11:36And Joe, KI6WXP, is going to be reading for us verses 33 to 64.
11:43Go ahead there, Joe.
11:44Hey, good morning, everybody.
11:47119 verse 33 out of the King James Bible, KI6WXP.
11:53It's he where it starts.
11:55Teach me, O Lord, the way of thy statutes.
11:59I shall keep it unto the end.
12:03Give me understanding, and I shall keep the law.
12:06Yeah, I shall observe it with my whole heart.
12:10Make me to go in the path of thy commandment.
12:14Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity, and quicken thou me in thy way.
12:32Establish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear.
12:38Turn away my approach, which I fear, for thy judgments are good.
12:44Behold, behold, I have longed after thy precepts.
12:48Quicken me in thy righteousness.
12:51Let thy mercies come also unto me, O Lord, even thy salvation according to thy word.
13:01So shall I have wherewith to answer him that approacheth me, for I trust in thy word.
13:09And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth, for I have hoped in thy judgments.
13:16So I keep thy law continually forever and ever, and I will walk at liberty, for I seek thy precepts.
13:28I will speak of thy testimonies also before kings, and will not be ashamed.
13:34And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved.
13:39My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved.
13:46And I will meditate in thy statutes.
13:50Zane, 49.
13:52Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope.
13:59This is my comfort in my affliction, for thy word hath quickened me.
14:03The proud hath had me greatly in derision, yet have I not declined from thy law.
14:13I remember thy judgments of old, O Lord, and hath comforted myself.
14:20Horror hath taken hold upon me because of the wicked that forsake thy law.
14:26Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage.
14:30I have remembered thy name, O Lord, in the night, and have kept thy law.
14:37This I have, because I kept thy precepts.
14:40Chief, 57.
14:43There art my portion, O Lord.
14:45I have said that I would keep my words.
14:49I entreated thy favor with my whole heart.
14:53Be merciful unto me according to thy word.
14:57I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto the testimonies.
15:04I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments.
15:09The bands of the wicked have robbed me, but I have not forgotten thy law.
15:15At midnight, I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of the righteous judgments.
15:20I am a companion of all of them for thee, and of them that keep thy precepts.
15:30The earth, O Lord, is full of thy mercy.
15:33Teach me thy statutes.
15:35K-I-6-W-X-P
15:37All right, real good, Joe.
15:40Thank you for that reading.
15:41Great job.
15:42Appreciate that.
15:43All right, any comments anybody wants to make on any of the verses that we've covered so far in Psalm 119?
15:49Please come now if you call some.
15:51K-M-5-F?
15:53Will, K-M-5-F, please go ahead.
15:55Yeah, I wound up doing some looking, and I found the Hebrew letters in their meeting for K-M-5-F.
16:05Shall I read some of those, K-M-5-F?
16:08Yes, yes.
16:09Will, please go ahead.
16:11Another thing we might do is go through each verse, or each section for each letter in order in each day,
16:21so that we cover all of them instead of just jumping all over.
16:26Okay, for 33, T, it means window, symbolized divine breath, revelation, or spiritual insight.
16:37Vav, hook, or can't peg, symbolized a connection that joins heaven and earth or links two ideas together.
16:44Zayn, weapon, or sword, symbolizes substance, battle, or ground action.
16:54Jet, which is the last one today, is fence, and inner room or ladder symbolizes a barrier, grace, or higher rung of transcendent K-M-5-F.
17:04That covers the ones we are covering today.
17:06Well, that's interesting.
17:07I've never heard about that before, and thank you for sharing that.
17:11Appreciate that.
17:12That could create some interesting connections.
17:17All right, real good, Will.
17:18Thanks for doing that research.
17:19All right, any other comments on any of the verses here in our passage, please come now at your call time.
17:34Mark, KJ7PBT, please go ahead.
17:41Hi, Max.
17:42You gave us an invitation to talk about something from yesterday.
17:48Is that still okay?
17:51Yeah, you bet it is, Mark.
17:53Please go ahead.
17:59Yeah, after everybody left yesterday, I got interested in the word undefiled,
18:06so I went to my strong concordance and looked it up.
18:12It says that it is without spot and perfect.
18:25There's a number of meanings there.
18:28There's only one meaning.
18:30Okay, so when that word undefiled is used two times in the Old Testament and about three times in the New Testament, three or four, I can't remember.
18:41I'm not looking at it right now.
18:45But undefiled means without spot, perfect.
18:49There's a number of words that are all chained together there, but they all mean the same thing.
18:55It's perfect sound and without spot.
19:00And so as soon as I saw that, it dawned on me that as Christians, so an Old Testament person was following the law
19:14and having his sins covered by sacrifice, we have the Lamb who gave his life for us, and we are covered by his blood.
19:28And I was reminded, if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to cleanse us from all unrighteousness,
19:37and that leaves us without spot.
19:38So that was coming back to you, Max.
19:48Yeah, praise the Lord.
19:50You know, in Colossians, Colossians chapter 1, he says in verse 21 and 22, that's Colossians 1, 21 and 22,
20:03it says,
20:04And so, yeah, you know, Jesus is the one who makes us undefiled.
20:26So while personally we're always going to have some degree of defilement in our lives because of our remaining sins,
20:40in fact, our record is completely undefiled because Christ took all the sins away from that record
20:48and completely removed them so that they no longer cling to us and no longer do we have accountability for them.
20:58And then it says in the book of Jude, chapter 1, verse 24,
21:04Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
21:12I said, the only wise God our Savior would be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever.
21:19So he's going to present us faultless.
21:22He's going to present us holy and unblameable and unreprovable.
21:26And praise the Lord for the saving work of Jesus who does, in fact, make us completely undefiled.
21:34Mark, great comment.
21:35Thank you for that.
21:36All right.
21:37Any other comments?
21:38Please come now with your call.
21:39Thank you.
21:42That's kind of funny.
21:49I did the same thing with that same word yesterday.
21:52I just kept looking it up in different places.
21:54K-I-6-W-X-T.
21:58Well, good, Joe.
21:59I'm glad to hear that your curiosity was peaked.
22:01Can you in and did some research?
22:02That's what this Bible study is all about.
22:04Well, you know, we provide people with impetus and inspiration to dig deeper into the word of God.
22:13So I'm glad that both you and Mark did that.
22:16So praise the Lord.
22:18Yep.
22:18Blessed are the undefiled in the way who walk in the law of the Lord.
22:22And so we attempt to walk in his ways, but we're not trusting in our walk.
22:29We're trusting in our Savior and in the fact that his blood cleanses us from all sin,
22:36and he is the one who presents us sinless before his Father in that day when we appear before him.
22:43All right.
22:44Any other comments on our passage?
22:46Please come down at your call time.
22:47Steve, W6YSI, please go ahead.
22:57Yeah, verse 33, I think, is foundational.
23:05I think it's telling us that we have to realize and confess our need to be teachable.
23:17So the psalmist is crying out here, Lord, you teach me.
23:21Teach me the way of thy statutes, and I shall observe it to the end.
23:28So the very beginning or foundation there is that we need to realize that we want to be taught.
23:43I need to be teachable.
23:45W6YSI.
23:49Yeah, Steve, great comment.
23:50And, you know, I completely agree.
23:52When it says, teach me, O Lord, the way of thy statutes, the clear implication is we don't know them automatically.
23:59And the clear implication is that we're not going to figure them out just all by our little self.
24:06We need God to be our teacher.
24:08We need him to be our instructor.
24:10We need him to, notice verse 34, give me understanding.
24:17And then once he's taught us, verse 33, once he gives us understanding, verse 34, then verse 35, make me to go in the path of thy commandment.
24:29And verse 36, incline my heart to your testimony.
24:35Turn away my eyes, verse 37, from beholding vanity.
24:39And so there's a whole group of requests here, each of which is really important in the process of going from being a person who is self-willed and self-directed and sinful,
24:55to being a person who is taught by God, to be a person whose heart is inclined towards God,
25:02and to be a person who walks in the way of God because he understands God's will and has the motivation to pursue that as the dominating characteristic of his life, indeed, in every situation.
25:16So, yes, this prayer is a recognition that we are ignorant and we need a teacher, and we have darkness, and so we need understanding, and we have dullness, so we need our hearts inclined.
25:33So what a wonderful prayer, Steve, to prepare our hearts to seek the Lord and to draw from the Lord that understanding and that transformation and that motivation to be those who walk in his will and in his way.
25:50Steve, thanks for that comment.
25:52All right, other comments.
25:53Please come now.
25:55Oh, you just said my favorite word, surrender.
25:58Whiskey 7 Alpha Sierra Yankee.
25:59When you look that word up in the dictionary, it means to move to the winning side.
26:11All right, move to the winning side.
26:13I like that.
26:14Whiskey 7 Alpha Sierra Yankee.
26:16Good comment there.
26:18Really appreciate you making that.
26:20All right, anything else?
26:22Go ahead.
26:26YSI.
26:29YSI.
26:29Yeah, it also reminds me of a promise that God made to his people, and it's in Deuteronomy, somewhere in the 30th chapter.
26:40It says that I am going to write my laws upon your heart.
26:49And that's what God is doing.
26:51And, you know, that's why I'm so thankful for this Bible study every morning, in realizing, you know, I get up in the midst, sometimes in the morning of, you know, doubt and fear and concern for this, concern for that and whatnot.
27:10But, you know, it just reminds me of the fact that this teachableness that I have now is part of God's plan.
27:20It's part of how he's going about preparing us for the day when Christ comes back to receive his church, that he starts it all in our hearts.
27:36He puts his laws, he puts his laws, writes them on our hearts, and it's just an amazing story.
27:45W6 YSI.
27:47Yeah, Steve, you are so correct.
27:51And what you're referring there, Sue, is the very first promise that's in the New Covenant.
27:56You see that in Deuteronomy, and you also see it in Jeremiah.
28:00Jeremiah, Jeremiah 31, verses 31 to 34, is where all that's recorded.
28:06It's also recorded in the book of Hebrews.
28:09And it says in Hebrews 8 and verse 10,
28:12For this is a covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, thanks to the Lord.
28:17I will put my laws into their mind and write them in their hearts.
28:21And so, yes, in regeneration, God puts his laws into our mind and writes them in our hearts.
28:27And that's why we have a heart to do them and a desire to do them.
28:32That's why Paul says in Romans chapter 7,
28:35I delight in the law of God after the inward man.
28:39And so, yeah, we have this longing to be undefiled in the way and to live for the Lord
28:44and to learn of the Lord and love the Lord and follow him.
28:49And so we just have this wonderful prayer in Psalm 119
28:55that gives us an opportunity to express that when he says in verse 36,
29:01Incline my heart unto thy testimonies and not unto covetousness.
29:06And so what we need to do is, if you will, lust after the word of God
29:11instead of lusting after the material things of this world.
29:16Steve, great comment.
29:17Thank you for pointing out what God does in changing our hearts and putting his word there
29:23so that when we read the Bible, our hearts give a yay and amen to what we're reading.
29:29And we find that agreement and kindred spirit between what's going on in our hearts
29:34and what's going on in the Bible.
29:36You know, Steve, before I was saved, it was like,
29:38Ah, the Bible, what a yucky book.
29:39I don't want to read that.
29:40And then after I got saved, it's like, man, I couldn't put the thing down
29:44and just wanted to read and read and read
29:47because my heart just sang with what the word of God was saying.
29:52All right, Steve, good comment.
29:53Thank you for that.
29:54All right, other comments.
29:55Please come down.
29:57Five Yankee.
29:59Five Yankee.
30:00Back.
30:00Go ahead.
30:02Yeah, I'm reading verses 41 through 48.
30:05What I'm noticing and what I really like about it is the dedication.
30:10And it's solid, you know.
30:12And I will walk.
30:14I shall.
30:15I will speak.
30:16I will delight.
30:17And I will also lift up your commandments.
30:20And I will.
30:21Roger.
30:24Yeah, copy that.
30:26And what you see there, Beck, is the intensity of the commitment
30:29and the determination of heart.
30:32And, yes, you know, we have to have that.
30:35God does wonderful things for us, but then we've got some things to do, too,
30:39and that is to listen, to learn, to remember, and then to follow.
30:46And so, yes, when God says, you know, I want you to do this,
30:50our hearts respond by saying, yes, Lord, what you want me to do,
30:55that's what I will do.
30:58Speak, Lord, for thy servant hear us.
31:00And then I delight in your commandments.
31:02I will carry them out.
31:04So, yeah, it requires a definite, self-conscious, self-aware commitment.
31:11I am going to do God's will and God's word today.
31:16And nothing less than that will carry us through, Beck,
31:19because if we're half-hearted or really not truly committed,
31:24we will be easily let us through.
31:27Beck, great comment.
31:28Thank you for that.
31:29Any other comments?
31:30Please come down.
31:36WB-7-VZL.
31:40Roger.
31:40WB-7-VZL.
31:41Please go ahead.
31:42There is quite an intriguing analysis of that will in Romans chapter 7.
31:53It's just an illustration of that.
31:57And, Max, you mentioned Hebrews 8.
32:01And it traces how incapable we are of ourselves because we've lost the power to will ourselves
32:16to observe his law of love.
32:20And so, therefore, like in Hebrews it says,
32:24And finding fault with them when we submitted to Satan's hatred of God's law,
32:34you can see that in, of course, Genesis 3,
32:37that right away his word to Eve was in conflict with God.
32:49And she went with the adversary.
32:54And we lost that capable of will, of willing ourselves to be in resonance with God.
33:02And so, therefore, like in Hebrews 8, it says,
33:06And finding fault with them.
33:08And that's why, as Steve has highlighted,
33:11the New Covenant is writing by the Holy Spirit his love.
33:21His commandments are basically the codification of love.
33:27And so, therefore, we can start the day saying,
33:32Take my defective will and send it back to me, purified and sanctified.
33:39So that surrender, I surrender all,
33:42is quite a piece of music.
33:50I didn't use it yesterday,
33:51but I played softly and tenderly,
33:56which is very similar, too.
33:58So it's that surrender of our wills
34:02to even have a chance
34:05to do what this psalm says.
34:08Because we cannot love in and of ourselves.
34:13The Bible makes it abundantly clear
34:16that we cannot do that.
34:18Our heart is deceitful and desperately wicked.
34:22So that's why the surrender of the will
34:24to be in resonance with God's love
34:28is essential.
34:31This is WB7VZL.
34:34Yeah, Roger, great comment.
34:37And I completely agree.
34:38So two things.
34:39Number one is that when we're unsaved,
34:42our heart is deceitful above all things
34:46and desperately wicked.
34:48That's the condition of every unsaved person's heart.
34:52Now, when we get saved,
34:54it's because God regenerates our heart.
34:57He takes out, as the Scripture says,
35:00a heart of stone.
35:01He gives us a heart of flesh.
35:02It says in Ezekiel.
35:03And then, as Steve mentioned,
35:05in Jeremiah,
35:07it talks about the fact
35:08that God writes His laws upon our hearts
35:11and puts them in our minds.
35:15And so we get a new heart.
35:16But it's not a perfect new heart.
35:18It is still a heart that can be drawn away
35:21by the things of the world
35:23and by the flesh.
35:25And that's why Paul says,
35:27as I mentioned earlier,
35:28we delight in the law of God
35:31after the inward man
35:32that is in our heart.
35:33But we find another principle
35:37in our flesh
35:38fighting against
35:39our new hearts,
35:41our regenerate hearts.
35:43And so we have this struggle.
35:45And, you know,
35:46one of the great comforts to me, Roger,
35:48is that
35:49as you have prayed,
35:50Lord,
35:51take my renewed heart
35:53and purify it
35:54and return it back to me
35:56being single-minded.
35:59You know,
36:01there's a verse
36:01that's always been a comfort to me
36:03in Philippians chapter 2
36:04where it says
36:06in verse 13,
36:08it is God
36:09who works in you
36:10both to will
36:11and to do
36:12of His good pleasure.
36:14So the comfort we have
36:15is that
36:15with that new heart
36:16that's been given to us,
36:18God continues
36:18to work in that heart
36:20to cause us
36:22to want to choose
36:22and then to carry out
36:24His good pleasure.
36:27So, yeah,
36:27the battle for the Christian life
36:29is won and lost
36:30in the heart.
36:32And, you know,
36:33Jesus spoke to this
36:34when He said
36:35in Matthew 15
36:36that you
36:36honor me with your lips,
36:39but your heart
36:40is far from me.
36:42So that's really
36:43what we're talking about here
36:45in Psalm 119
36:46is a heart communion
36:49and a heart fellowship
36:52with God
36:53proceeding from the heart.
36:55And so,
36:56verse 36,
36:57incline my heart
36:59unto thy testimonies
37:01and not to covetousness.
37:03Verse 37,
37:05turn away my eyes
37:06from beholding vanity
37:07and quicken me
37:09or make me alive
37:10in thy way.
37:13So, yeah,
37:13there's a lot of heart work
37:14that has to be done.
37:15Every day,
37:16every minute of every day,
37:18I have to think to myself,
37:19where's my heart at?
37:21What am I doing?
37:22What am I thinking?
37:23Am I reflecting God's mind
37:27and God's will
37:28in my innermost person?
37:31And then,
37:31out of that innermost person,
37:33you pray
37:34and you ask God
37:35for help
37:36and guidance
37:37and strength
37:38and transformation
37:41so that we can walk
37:43in the steps of Jesus.
37:46Roger,
37:46thank you for that.
37:48All right,
37:48other comments?
37:49Please come now.
37:50Thank you so much, Max.
37:58That's true.
38:00And we're looking at
38:01a description
38:02of a man
38:05who had done that,
38:07who had surrendered his will,
38:10who wrote this
38:11and had gone through
38:15that heart work.
38:17And you mentioned
38:20Ezekiel 36.
38:22That is most likely
38:24what Jesus is referring to
38:27when he talks to Nicodemus.
38:31And Nicodemus is just kind of,
38:35when we talk about
38:38really needing to have this
38:40every day
38:41or to renew this
38:43or to learn it
38:44for the first time
38:45like Nicodemus,
38:46Nicodemus,
38:47he had most likely,
38:48being in the stature
38:51that he was,
38:52he had most likely
38:53memorized
38:54Psalm 119.
38:57I mean,
38:58he had memorized
38:59the law,
39:00but he knew
39:01Psalm 119.
39:03And Jesus
39:04kind of is inferring,
39:06well,
39:06you should know
39:07these things.
39:09You know about
39:11Ezekiel 36
39:12and the new birth
39:15and that sort of thing.
39:16So,
39:17yeah,
39:18there's,
39:19the graduation,
39:22the graduation
39:23really,
39:24truly,
39:24only happens
39:25in,
39:27when we have
39:29this wonderful
39:30transformation
39:32when he comes.
39:34But that preparation,
39:36we can only hope
39:37for that
39:38when Jesus
39:39gives us
39:41that glorification.
39:43Thank you so much,
39:44Max,
39:44and everybody
39:46that's commented.
39:46WB7,
39:47Vizel.
39:49Yeah,
39:50you bet,
39:50Roger.
39:51Well said.
39:53Yeah,
39:53in John chapter 3,
39:54Jesus is saying
39:55to Nicodemus,
39:56you must be born again.
39:58And Nicodemus
39:59is going,
40:00how can these things be?
40:03Jesus says,
40:04are you a teacher
40:05in Israel
40:05and don't know
40:06these things?
40:08And so,
40:09the necessity
40:11of the new birth
40:13is like one
40:14of the most
40:14foundational
40:15and basic truths
40:17of the scriptures
40:19that we need
40:20to not just
40:21be forgiven,
40:22as wonderful
40:23as that is,
40:24we need
40:25to be transformed.
40:27You know,
40:27we have a bad record,
40:29we've done
40:29bad things,
40:30we've committed sins,
40:33but we also
40:33have a bad heart.
40:36That is,
40:37our nature
40:37is corrupt.
40:39And so,
40:39until the nature
40:40is changed,
40:41the behavior
40:42cannot be changed.
40:44And that's why
40:44we have to be
40:45born again
40:46if we're going
40:47to see the kingdom
40:48of God,
40:48if we're going
40:49to enter
40:49the kingdom
40:49of God,
40:50and if we're
40:51going to live
40:51according to
40:52the Lord
40:53of that kingdom,
40:54who is,
40:55of course,
40:55Jesus Christ
40:56and the commandments
40:58that he gives
40:58to us.
41:00All right,
41:00I have a text
41:01message here
41:01from Keith,
41:02K7NEB,
41:04and he points
41:05out here
41:06verse 34.
41:07I'm going
41:07to read
41:08verse 34.
41:09It says,
41:10Give me
41:11understanding,
41:12and I shall
41:13keep thy law,
41:14yea,
41:15I shall observe
41:16it with my
41:16full heart.
41:18And he asks
41:18the question
41:19here based
41:20on verse 34.
41:22So,
41:23we strive
41:23to do more
41:24or learn
41:26more as
41:27commanded.
41:28Well,
41:29the answer
41:29Keith is both.
41:32We learn
41:32more,
41:33and because
41:34of our
41:35knowledge of
41:36what we
41:36should do,
41:37then we are
41:38able to
41:39do more.
41:41Now,
41:41Keith,
41:41I've been a
41:41Christian for
41:4250 plus years,
41:44and I know
41:45more now
41:45than what I
41:47started out.
41:48And so,
41:49in the beginning,
41:50I needed to
41:50learn.
41:51The more I
41:52learned,
41:53the better I
41:53was able to
41:54then obey
41:55obey and
41:56follow the
41:57Lord and
41:58strive to
41:59do more.
42:00So,
42:02it's not a
42:02matter of
42:03learning or
42:04doing.
42:05It's a matter
42:05of learning
42:06and doing.
42:08And so,
42:09we learn,
42:10and then we
42:11do.
42:12The Bible
42:12says,
42:13be doers of
42:14the word and
42:14not hearers
42:15only,
42:17deceiving
42:17yourselves.
42:18So,
42:19we learn the
42:20word,
42:20and then we
42:21go out and
42:21we do the
42:22word,
42:23and so
42:23that's why
42:24we want to
42:25learn.
42:25So,
42:25my prayer is,
42:26Lord,
42:27give me
42:28understanding,
42:29verse 34,
42:31and I
42:33shall keep
42:34thy law.
42:36So,
42:36the keeping
42:37is the doing
42:37and the
42:38understanding
42:38is the
42:39learning.
42:39So,
42:39we learn
42:40and then
42:40we keep.
42:42And then,
42:42of course,
42:43you see that
42:43follow-up
42:44prayer,
42:44verse 35,
42:45make me to
42:46go in the
42:47path of thy
42:48commandment.
42:50And so,
42:50it's both
42:51and keep.
42:52It's not
42:52either-or,
42:53and I
42:53think it's
42:54important for
42:54us to
42:55learn and
42:56then do.
42:57All right,
42:58other comments?
42:58Please come
42:59now as
42:59your call
42:59time.
43:18All right,
43:19while you're
43:19thinking,
43:20let's look at
43:21verse 46.
43:22it says in
43:24verse 46,
43:26I will
43:26speak of
43:27thy testimonies
43:28also before
43:29kings,
43:30and will
43:31not be
43:32ashamed.
43:33And the
43:34idea there
43:35is that
43:36we shouldn't
43:37be intimidated
43:38by people.
43:39We shouldn't
43:40live in
43:41fear of
43:41man.
43:42We should
43:43speak the
43:43word of
43:44God to
43:44any person
43:45in any
43:46circumstance,
43:47at any
43:49level of
43:50society.
43:52And what
43:53the psalmist
43:53is really
43:54saying here
43:55is that
43:55he fears
43:56God more
43:57than he
43:58fears the
43:58king,
43:59and he
44:00loves the
44:01word of
44:01God more
44:03than he cares
44:03about what
44:04the king
44:04might think
44:05about him
44:05or what
44:06the king
44:06might do
44:07to him.
44:09And so,
44:09you know,
44:10we're around
44:10people all
44:11the time
44:12who have
44:13the power
44:13and the
44:14resources
44:15to be
44:15able to
44:16do us
44:16harm.
44:17And,
44:18you know,
44:18what the
44:19psalmist is
44:19saying is
44:20that I'm
44:22going to
44:22preach the
44:22word.
44:23These people
44:23need to
44:24hear it.
44:25And just
44:25because it's
44:26my boss
44:27at work
44:27or it's
44:29some superior
44:29in the
44:30military
44:31or,
44:32you know,
44:33maybe it's
44:34someone in
44:35society who's
44:36wealthy and
44:37powerful,
44:39there's never
44:40a time when
44:40it's inappropriate
44:41to bring the
44:43word of God
44:44to them
44:45as an act
44:46of love
44:47towards them
44:48because we
44:48want to get
44:49saved.
44:50And we also
44:51recognize that
44:52the word of
44:52God has
44:53authority over
44:54kings.
44:55And so the
44:55king has his
44:56word, right?
44:57But then God
44:58has his
44:59words.
45:00And it's his
45:00words that have
45:02more authority
45:03than the words
45:04even of kings.
45:06And so kings
45:06are to submit
45:07themselves to
45:08the word of
45:08God and hear
45:10it and receive
45:10it when it's
45:11brought by
45:12people who
45:13are not at
45:14the same
45:14level of
45:15status that
45:16he is.
45:17All right,
45:17any other
45:18comments?
45:18Please come
45:19now.
45:21I know we're
45:23getting short
45:23of time.
45:26Okay, we
45:27had a double
45:27there.
45:28Will came
45:28five, if you
45:29go first,
45:30and then we'll
45:30get Roger.
45:30Go ahead,
45:31Will.
45:31Yeah, since
45:32we're running
45:32out of time,
45:33actually probably
45:33a little bit
45:34over, I'm
45:35going to try
45:36to summarize
45:36these four
45:37sections with
45:38just a
45:38statement.
45:39in verse
45:4033, symbolizes
45:43divine breath,
45:44revelation, or
45:45spiritual insight.
45:47And Thav in
45:4741, that
45:48section, symbolizes
45:50a connection that
45:50joins heaven and
45:51earth or links
45:52two ideas
45:53together.
45:54And in
45:5549, starting
45:56at 49, symbolizes
45:57substance, battle,
45:59or crowned
46:00action.
46:02Chath or
46:03Chet in
46:03verse 57,
46:05symbolizes a
46:06barrier, grace,
46:07or a higher
46:07rung of
46:08transcendence.
46:10We are not
46:10able to cover
46:11all of these,
46:12and we only
46:12covered a
46:13couple of
46:13them, so I
46:14thought I'd
46:14try to
46:14summarize them
46:15a little bit
46:15there.
46:16Thank you
46:19for that.
46:20I appreciate
46:20that.
46:20All right,
46:21Roger, WB7BZO,
46:22go ahead.
46:24Your comments
46:25about speaking,
46:26speaking to
46:27kings and
46:28authorities.
46:29I read an
46:30article in
46:31Religious
46:32Liberty
46:32Magazine,
46:33Liberty
46:33Magazine,
46:34last evening,
46:36and I'll
46:36save my
46:37comments
46:37because of
46:38time, but
46:39the surveillance
46:40state of
46:42China, it's
46:43making it
46:44extremely risky
46:46to share,
46:48because they
46:49have surveyed
46:50most every
46:51element, because
46:53they do fear
46:54the power of
46:56God's word
46:57against any
46:59state.
47:01And so the
47:03persecution, if
47:04you're not
47:05approved, if
47:06you're caught,
47:07I mean, I
47:08will talk about
47:09this article
47:09later.
47:11WB7BZO.
47:14Yeah, Roger,
47:15thank you for
47:15that.
47:15And we see the
47:16apostles doing
47:17that in the
47:17book of Acts,
47:18don't we, where
47:19they say we
47:19ought to obey
47:20God rather
47:21than men, and
47:21they stood up
47:22to the
47:22authorities who
47:22had the
47:23power to
47:23throw them
47:24in prison and
47:24put them to
47:25death.
47:25And yet that
47:26did not shut
47:27their mouths,
47:27and it
47:28shouldn't shut
47:28ours either.
47:29All right,
47:30this is WB7MX,
47:31we're going to
47:32stop the net
47:33here today and
47:34go to prayer.
47:35We are short
47:35on time because
47:36we do have a
47:37vintage military
47:38radio network
47:38following, and so
47:40I'm going to go
47:41ahead and close in
47:42prayer for us.
47:43All right, well,
47:44let's pray together.
47:45Father, thank you

47:53we would understand
47:54them and be able
