The Bible reading

Psalm 119:97-136

The study focused on Psalm 119, verses 97 through 136, with participants discussing the multifaceted nature of Scripture. The group noted that the psalmist describes the Word using various terms such as law, testimony, statutes, and commandments, each highlighting a different aspect of God's instruction. The discussion emphasized that wisdom derived from meditating on and applying the Word surpasses that of enemies, teachers, and the aged, as it comes directly from God.

Insights

  • Wisdom is not a monopoly of the educated or elderly; it is accessible to anyone who meditates on and obeys Scripture.
  • The distinction between 'meditating' and 'observing' highlights that intellectual understanding must lead to practical obedience.
  • The variety of terms used for Scripture (e.g., lamp, light, precept, judgment) reveals the comprehensive scope of God's instruction.
  • Believers do not need to rely solely on human interpretation because the indwelling Holy Spirit teaches them directly from the text.
  • The 'owner's manual' and 'programmable logic controller' analogies illustrate that the Bible provides the necessary instructions for human function and moral alignment.
  • The clarity of Scripture is a gift, allowing even simple people to understand God's will when they approach it with humility and prayer.

0:27And good morning, Brian, KJ7, P.W.
0:31How are things up there in Washington?
0:35Doing good up here this morning.
0:37No new care requests.
0:40Avery's colonoscopy was clean, so that's good.
0:44And other than that, I don't think I have anything this morning.
0:49Well, praise the Lord for that.
0:50That's a great report.
0:51So that's Brian, KJ7, P.W.
0:54His son, Avery, had a colonoscopy.
0:56Came back clean.
0:57No issues.
0:58So that's really good news, especially given the medical history there.
1:02So praise the Lord for that.
1:04Thank you.
1:05Al, KJ7, QQH, did you copy that?
1:10Roger, roger.
1:11Good report, Dan.
1:12Thank you for that, Al.
1:13Okay, real good, Brian.
1:15Good to have you with us.
1:16And I sure enjoyed having Alex.
1:18Alex is still 7 years old.
1:20Is that correct?
1:20He will actually turn 7 in January.
1:27He's almost 7.
1:30Okay, so he's almost 7.
1:32Well, he probably likes being told he's 7.
1:35I think when he was on the radio the other day, I said he was 7 years old.
1:41So he's going to be 7 in January.
1:44All right.
1:44Well, I'll correct my records and have him down as 6.
1:48But you be sure to let me know when his birthday is so I can call that out, okay?
1:54Roger that.
1:54Yeah, he did correct you.
1:56Of course, I didn't have, I wasn't teed up.
1:59But he was like, wait, I'm 6.
2:01I'm not 7.
2:03Okay, okay, real good.
2:05Well, all right.
2:06Thank you for fixing that for me with him.
2:09All right, WB7MAX net control for the West Coast Bible Study.
2:13Please come down with your call sign.
2:16WB7VZL.
2:18And, Roger, WB7VZL, how are you doing today?
2:22Pretty good.
2:23After the bath, very therapeutic.
2:28Yeah, copy that.
2:30Hey, you want to do some scripture reading for us today?
2:32Can you do that?
2:34Well, you know where I'm sitting.
2:36I've got my Bible right here, and I've got a nice light.
2:39So I praise the Lord that I can read.
2:42Over.
2:43Copy that.
2:44So we've got quite a long section.
2:46Psalm 119, 97 to 136.
2:50That's 97 to 136.
2:52We're doing five sections today instead of four.
2:56And then we'll do five tomorrow, and that'll bring us to the end of Psalm 119.
3:01So we've been doing four sections, but we do have 22 sections there.
3:07So, yeah, if you could do 97 to 136 when the time comes, that'd be great.
3:15Okay.
3:16I'll sweep through it, and Lord willing, yes.
3:21All right.
3:21Real good, Roger.
3:22Thank you for that.
3:23All right.
3:23Any other check-ins this morning, the West Coast Bible Study, please come down at your call sign.
3:36All right.
3:36And now I'd like to acknowledge Gene, K7GWR.

3:42Good to have you with us.
3:43And let's see, looking down through the list here, see who I've missed.
3:47Oh, there's Peter, KJ7VA.
3:49Good morning, Peter.
3:51Good to see you there on the Utah SDR.
3:54And let's see, who else do we have?

4:07Good morning, Lee.
4:08Good to have you with us.
4:09Appreciate you being there as well.
4:12And then, let's see.
4:23Hang on a second here.
4:24KD0EQK, KD0EQK.
4:29I'm drawing a blank.
4:31That is Bruce.
4:33Good morning, Bruce.
4:34Yeah.
4:34Took me a second there to pull the brain cells together.
4:38Bruce, KD0EQK.
4:40Good to see you there also on the Utah SDR.
4:44Appreciate you being there.
4:45Okay.
4:46I think we do have everyone now.
4:48Peter says good morning to everyone.
4:50Appreciate that.
4:51And I think everyone else on that SDR is checked in already.
4:56Okay.
4:57We are ready to get started with the West Coast Bible Study, WB7MAX here.
5:02We'll have one more opportunity for late check-ins.
5:05Any check-ins, please come now.
5:06AK-60K, late check-in.
5:11Well, there he is.
5:12Hey, you're 27 seconds late.
5:15Boy, you're in trouble there, Jeff.
5:20Okay.
5:21I'm ready for my job then.
5:25All right, Jeff.
5:26Real good.
5:26We got you checked in, and we appreciate you being there with us.
5:31Any other check-ins, come now.
5:38All right.
5:39We're ready to get going here.
5:41This is WB7MAX, Net Control West Coast Bible Study.
5:45We're going to open with a study of Psalm 119, verses 97 to 136.
5:51That's 97 to 136.
5:53But before we get started, we want to open in prayer.
5:56And so Kevin, KB7, to that extent, if you could open in prayer for us today.
5:59Appreciate that.
6:00Go ahead, brother.
6:02Very good.
6:02Let us bow our heads.
6:05Our most kind and merciful Father, we do thank you for this day that you've given us, Lord,
6:09to work into your Word, to lift up your Word, and, Lord, to draw from it on this text that
6:15we've been studying the past few days and ahead of us for more days.
6:20It's the glorious Word and the blessings that it brings, Lord, the hope that it gives us.
6:26Father, I ask that you be with each one here in their particular need.
6:31Lord, there are some great needs of all different types and sizes and shapes.
6:36And, Lord, we thank you for hearing our prayers.
6:38We thank you for answering our prayers.
6:40We thank you for ministering to those needs that are there, both physical, emotional,
6:47so many dealing with loss and challenges of life.
6:52Father, we just pray that we would be pleasing in your sight this day as we look into your
6:56Word.
6:57In Jesus' name, amen.
7:00Amen, Kevin.
7:01Thank you so much for that prayer.
7:02I really appreciate that.
7:04Okay.
7:04Well, no need to introduce this psalm.
7:07We've already introduced it.
7:08Just make the comment that I've made a couple of times already.
7:14This is a psalm by a man of God about the Word of God to the God of the Word.
7:21So this psalm is all about a man praying to God with reference to the scriptures that that
7:29God has provided him with to instruct him as to how to have a relationship with God and
7:37who God is like.
7:39So, without further comment, we want to read this section.
7:44We're doing five sections today, and we'll do five tomorrow, and that will bring us to
7:49the end of Psalm 119.
7:51And so, Roger, WB7VZL, is going to read for us Psalm 119, verse 197 to 136.
7:59Go ahead there, Roger.
8:00This is WB7VZL reading NASB, verse 97.
8:09Oh, how I love thy law.
8:13It is meditation all the day.
8:17Thy commandments make me wiser than my enemies.
8:21For they are ever mine.
8:24I have more insight than all my teachers.
8:29For thy testimonies are my meditation.
8:32I understand more than the aged, because I have observed thy precepts.
8:40I have restrained my feet from every evil way, that I may keep thy word.
8:46I have not turned aside from thine ordinances, for thou thyself hast taught me.
8:57How sweet are thy words to my taste, yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth.
9:05From thy precepts I get understanding.
9:09Therefore, I hate every false way.
9:16Verse 105.
9:17Thy word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.
9:25I have sworn, and I will confirm it, that I may keep thy righteous ordinances.
9:31I am exceedingly afflicted.
9:34Revive me, O Lord, according to thy word.
9:39O, accept the freewill offering of my mouth, O Lord, and teach me thine ordinances.
9:49My life is continually in my hand, yet I do not forget thy law.
9:59The wicked have laid a snare for me, yet I have not gone astray from thy precepts.
10:07I have inherited thy testimonies forever, for they are the joy of my heart.
10:14I have inclined my heart to perform thy statutes, forever, even to the end.
10:24I hate those who are double-minded, but I love thy law.
10:31Thou art my hiding place and my shield.
10:35I wait for thy word.
10:37Depart from me, evildoers, that I may observe the commandments of my God.
10:46Sustain me according to thy word, that I may live, and do not let me be ashamed of my hope.
10:55Uphold me, that I may be safe, that I may have regard for thy statutes continually.
11:07Thou hast rejected all those who wander from thy statutes, for their deceitfulness is useless.
11:17Thou hast removed all the wicked of the earth like dross.
11:21Therefore, I love thy testimonies.
11:25My flesh trembles for fear of thee, and I am afraid of thy judgments.
11:34Verse 121.
11:36I have done justice and righteousness.
11:40Do not leave me to my oppressors.
11:44Be surety for thy servant for good.
11:48Do not let the arrogant oppress me.
11:51My eyes fail with longing for thy salvation and for thy righteous word.
12:03Deal with thy servant according to thy lovingkindness, and teach me thy statutes.
12:09I am thy servant.
12:12Give me understanding, that I may know thy testimonies.
12:17It is time for the Lord to act, for they have broken thy law.
12:24Therefore, I love thy commandments above gold.
12:28Yes, above fine gold.
12:31Therefore, I esteem right all thy precepts concerning everything.
12:37I hate every false way.
12:41Verse 129.
12:43Thy testimonies are wonderful.
12:45Therefore, my soul observes them.
12:49And the upholding of thy words give light.
12:53It gives understanding to the simple.
12:55I opened my mouth wide and panted, for I longed for thy commandments.
13:03Turn to me, and be gracious to me, after thy manner with those who love thy law and thy name.
13:12Establish my footsteps in thy word, and do not let iniquity have dominion over me.
13:19Redeem me from the oppression of man, that I may keep thy precepts.
13:26Make thy face shine upon thy servant, and teach me thy statutes.
13:36My eyes shed streams of water, because they do not keep thy law.
13:44That brings us to verse 137.
13:50WB7MAX, WB7VZL.
13:53Roger, WB7VZL.
13:55Thank you so much for that scripture reading.
13:57Well done.
13:58All right, any comments on our passage?
14:01Perhaps one of those verses has jumped out and spoke to you.
14:05And so, we'd love to hear your comments about this passage.
14:08Please come now with your call sign.
14:11KB7, is that exact?
14:12Kevin, KB7, is that exact?
14:14Please go ahead.
14:16Well, I'll get the ball rolling.
14:18I'll tell you, Psalm 119 has always been a favorite of mine for so many reasons,
14:24because it puts our focus where it should be on the blessed word of God
14:30and the blessing of having the word of God here.
14:34And it just always caused me to reflect, too, because the first message I ever preached was on Psalm 119, verse 105.
14:46And that word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
14:50But I just wanted to kind of start at where we began here in the text today,
14:56how precious the word is to the psalmist here as well.
15:02And not that we should so much admire him,
15:05but recognize the blessing that he has from the word is available to us as well.
15:12And I love how he begins talking about that he's wiser than his enemies.
15:20He understands more than the aged, and he has more insight, even than his teachers.
15:27And two things out of that, one, you think, well, he's just bragging a little bit.
15:34But, no, he understands the source of that wisdom.
15:38You know, you think about our enemies.
15:41And who is our real enemy?
15:43We find out in Ephesians 6.
15:45And if we're going to have any success at all with the spiritual battle that's before us,
15:52we have to be in the word of God.
15:54We have to be in the source and have that relationship with our Savior, Jesus Christ.
16:00Because there are some powerful enemies that we have that oppose God
16:07and consequently will oppose us.
16:09But in his word, we will find that depth in relationship.
16:15The other thing, too, is, you know, wisdom above us,
16:19or insights above us, teachers and what have you, too, and the aged.
16:24Two, the other thing we see is, one, he meditates on the word.
16:29And it's the same as in Psalm 1, the Hebrew idea here is like a cow chewing on its cud.
16:35You know, he spends time in meditating and ruminating over that word of God,
16:41and as we kind of often do here.
16:44But in our quiet times, in the times through the day, you know,
16:49prayerfully some of these things we talk about here and other thoughts,
16:53when we think about the text that we've read and studied in the morning,
16:57we'll come back and bring new, fresh understanding to us as we meditate on God's word.
17:05And then the other thing, too, here, which I think is so key, is that he observes.
17:11He doesn't only just contemplate, meditate, and seek understanding, but he applies the word of God.
17:19What he does understand, he applies in faith, both in worship and in practice,
17:26and surrender humility to God.
17:31And we see that through these texts here.
17:34KB 7, is that acceptable?
17:36Kevin, great comments.
17:38Thank you for that.
17:39It's so important for us to be real clear in our minds about, as you said, what is the source of wisdom.
17:45You know, we can look at our enemies and their prosperity and say,
17:48oh, maybe they have some understanding we don't.
17:50And then our teachers, you know, you go to college and there's all these teachers with their Ph.D.
17:57And then there's the old folks, you know.
18:00But all of these people, we have to measure, as you well said, what they are saying,
18:06the positions they're taking, the principles they're teaching, and compare it with the word of God.
18:13You know, and search the scriptures, see whether those things are true.
18:16Because, as it says in Proverbs 2.6, the Lord gives wisdom.
18:20Out of his mouth proceeds knowledge and understanding.
18:24And so, as we meditate in the scriptures, as we observe the scriptures, as you well said,
18:30we wind up gaining wisdom.
18:33And those who don't do those things don't possess that wisdom.
18:37And so, that's how we can excel beyond them.
18:40You know, Kevin, what's such a blessing to me is that no one has a monopoly on wisdom.
18:48Any individual can gain phenomenal amounts of wisdom.
18:54It's just simply, as you well said, meditate in the word and then live out the word.
18:59And they can rocket past any apparent wisdom that others seem to have.
19:07And like you said, it's not a matter of pride.
19:09It's a matter of saying, you know, all wisdom resides in God.
19:14I'm learning of God.
19:15Therefore, I'm learning wisdom.
19:17So, well said.
19:20You know, and the other thing there, too, is that along with meditation comes prayer.
19:27If any man lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men liberally and upbraids not,
19:32and it shall be given to him.
19:33And so, the psalmist here is certainly meditating in the scriptures.
19:37He's also praying to God about the scriptures and his understanding of them.
19:42And so, study and prayer are the ways in which we excel in wisdom,
19:48even beyond that of our enemies who seem to dominate us,
19:52our teachers who have much worldly wisdom to instruct us,
19:59and, of course, even the old folks.
20:02You know, there's a saying, there's no fool like an old fool.
20:07And so, just because someone is old doesn't mean they're wise.
20:11You don't have wisdom without age,
20:13but just because you have age doesn't mean you have wisdom either.
20:16So, ultimately, the word of God brings us up to and past those who would be our superiors,
20:26but who themselves are not meditating in the word of God.
20:32Kevin, what a great comment and analysis.
20:34Thank you so much for that.
20:36All right.
20:36Any other comments?
20:38Please come now.
20:39KJ7 PVT.
20:41All right.
20:41KJ7 PVT.
20:43Go ahead.
20:44Thanks, Max.
20:45We remember that this Psalm 119 is lumped together with Psalm 1 and Psalm 19.
20:54And there's some interesting things here that we can pick out.
21:00The thing that we're saying over and over again,
21:03or we are seeing over and over again and speaking about is God's word.
21:09But it has different names to it.
21:13And I want to listen.
21:15Excuse me.
21:16I'd like to list these off here.
21:18There's the word, of course, word, word, then there's saying, then there's way,
21:29then there's testimony, and judgment, and precept, and commandment, and laws,
21:39and statutes, and faithfulness, the ones that we see.
21:46And it's easy for me as I'm reading this to kind of skip over those things,
21:52but I have to back up and focus in on that those words, commandments, statutes, judgments,
22:01are talking about the word of God.
22:05And a good example of this is in Psalm 19.
22:11I remember when I was around 15 years old, I was just going towards getting my driver's license,
22:19and I had bought a car ahead of time, and all I could do at that time was sit in it
22:24and pretend, and we went to a tape, and there was a person who came to our church
22:31and taught us how to sing Psalm 19.
22:37And the one that I can still hear today as I look at it is Psalm 19, verse 7 through 11.
22:48And it says, and it repeats these things that I just talked about, these different names.
22:54And listen to this, first starting with verse 7 of Psalm 19.
23:00The law of the Lord is perfect, converts the soul.
23:04The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise and simple.
23:09The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart.
23:13The commandments of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
23:18The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever.
23:21The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
23:27More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold.
23:31We are also than the honey and the honeycomb.
23:33Mark, thank you so much for walking us through all the different words that are used to describe the scriptures.
23:52And then connecting that with Psalm 119, where we have a lot of those same words.
23:57The law of the Lord, the testimony of the Lord, the statutes of the Lord, the commandments of the Lord, the judgments of the Lord.
24:06And the scriptures are even called the fear of the Lord.
24:09And so all of these different words that are used to describe the scriptures in the scriptures help us to understand the multifaceted nature of the word of God.
24:23And as you said, in Psalm 119, there are nine different words that are used of the scriptures.
24:32And each of them conveys a little different facet of the nature of the word of God.
24:39So thank you for listing those out and bringing those to our attention.
24:43And these descriptive words, each of them provide not only literary variety, but a little different understanding of the meaning of those words.
24:55And so we have the word word, which is the declaration of God's mind.
25:00We have the word law, which speaks of God's sovereign rules that we're to live by.
25:08We have God's testimonies, which is God's witness of what is true.
25:12We have God's statutes, which are fixed and established rules of behavior.
25:17We have God's commandments, which are the authoritative expression of his will.
25:22We have his precepts, in which God prescribes to us our duties.
25:28We have his judgments, by which we must judge and be judged.
25:33We have his way, which is God's path and pattern of behavior.
25:37And we have God's truth, that which is permanently and universally valid.
25:41So, yeah, all of those words and more in the scriptures are used to describe the scriptures.
25:49And they provide us with insight as to the comprehensive nature and application of the word of God.
25:59Mark, I'm glad you learned that song from Psalm 119.
26:02I'm familiar with that.
26:03And so to be able to sing the scriptures and use that to not only memorize them, but to meditate on them is a wonderful practice.
26:11All right.
26:12Thank you, Mark.

26:14Any other comments?
26:15Please come now.
26:20WB7VZL.
26:21Roger.
26:22WB7VZL.
26:23Please go ahead.
26:24WB7VZL.
26:25Yes, Max and others.
26:27I couldn't help but hearing Deuteronomy and the second giving of the law.
26:36And I was just paging through that right after the second giving of the formal Ten Commandments.
26:42And you have chapter 6, which is the mentoring and passing on the torch of God's law, the light to their path, to their children.
26:58And Deuteronomy 6 is such a powerful, that one has the Shema,
27:04Hear, O Israel, the Lord is our God, and the Lord is one.
27:10And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
27:17And then he goes on to be diligent to pass that powerful legacy.
27:23And our passage today mentioned that, the legacy of the Word of God.
27:29And then I couldn't help but pick up in your comments, it's not too difficult to you.
27:36I love the end of Deuteronomy in chapter 30.
27:40This commandment which I command you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it out of reach.
27:49You know, we were talking about the, you know, how do we do this?
27:54Well, praise the Lord for the Spirit of God.
27:57It is, it is not too difficult, it's not out of reach.
28:01Verse 12 of Deuteronomy 30,
28:04It is not in heaven that you may say,
28:07Who can go up to heaven for us, to get it for us, and make us hear it, and that I may observe it?
28:15Nor it is beyond the sea that you may, you should say,
28:19Who will cross the sea for us, to get it for us, and make us hear it, that we may observe it?
28:26But the Word of God is near you, in your mouth, and in your heart, that you may observe it.
28:37What a closeness that if we so choose, you know, draw near to God, draw near to God, and He will draw near to us.
28:47I don't think there's anything that would illustrate that passage, of drawing near, more than this verse here, in verse 14.
28:57The Word is very near you.
28:59WB7 of Ezekiel.
29:01Yeah, Roger, thank you for that.
29:04And, you know, that's the thing, is that there are those who have said,
29:07Oh, only the church can interpret the Bible, and it's just too hard for you to understand.
29:13So just trust what we tell you the Bible means.
29:18That is simply not true.
29:20And the passage you quoted there in Deuteronomy makes that so clear.
29:24That's addressed to the congregation.
29:27It's not addressed to the leadership.
29:29And, you know, you see the same way with the New Testament epistles.
29:32They're addressed to the churches, to individual people in those churches.
29:37And while there are some of them that are addressed to pastors like 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus, etc.,
29:43The Bible is meant to be understood by the ordinary person who's just not called or gifted, but is humble and teachable.
29:56And if you'll sit down and read the Word of God and pray for illumination and for guidance,
30:03you will be able to understand it, and you will be able to grasp what God is saying.
30:10And so thank the Lord for the clarity of His revelation and for the simplicity of His revelation,
30:28that even a child can understand the message of the gospel.
30:33And so if we just apply ourselves to it, we can understand it.
30:38And so praise the Lord for that, Roger.
30:41Thank you for bringing that out, that God doesn't intend to be obscure.
30:48Yes, there's things that are hard to be understood, but they're not impossible.
30:52And if you just apply yourself, it's completely within the realm of any normal person to be able to understand the Word of God.
31:01But, you know, you did mention Deuteronomy 6 and about the importance of teaching it to our children.
31:07And just a little while ago, we went through Psalm 78.
31:11We call that the parent's psalm, in which there also it talks about the responsibility that parents have to teach the Word of God to our children.
31:21So if we have a duty to teach it to our kids, then clearly, number one, we can understand it, and number two, the kids can understand it.
31:29So it's not far off.
31:30It's not beyond our ability to comprehend.
31:35So praise the Lord for the simplicity, for the clarity, for the understandability.
31:42This is not mysticism.
31:45This is not esoteric.
31:48This is not hidden wisdom.
31:50This is the wisdom of God.
31:52Thank you for that, Roger.
31:53All right.
31:54I have a comment here from Daryl, WB7AOT, from Ham Lake, Minnesota.
32:01Daryl says, by way of text message, great discussion, Max.
32:05Here is a comment for the group.
32:07The Bible is not just another book of words.
32:10It is a supernatural book of the words of God.
32:16It is what we need daily in growing in our connection to the Lord as the branch is connected to the vine described in John 15.
32:26As it says in Hebrews 4.12, the Word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword,
32:33piercing even to the division of soul and spirit and joints and marrow,
32:39and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
32:42Daryl, WB7AOT, thank you for that comment.
32:45You know, and that's the difference between the scriptures and every other book of words,
32:51is that this word has a power, it has a life, it has the ability to transform in a way that no human words do.
33:05And it's living and it's powerful.
33:08So as we read the scriptures, supernatural transactions take place between God and our soul and God and our heart and God and our minds.
33:20And there is that divine illumination and there is that operative power of the scriptures to change and transform.
33:28And it's life-giving, as Daryl said, it's like a branch on a tree that draws strength and sap from the tree to be able to grow.
33:41And so, you know, that's the way we obtain nourishment from the Lord Jesus,
33:46is by being not only attached to him through salvation,
33:50but also by drawing instruction from him through reading the scriptures.
33:56So, Daryl, thank you for pointing out, this isn't just a book of words.
34:00This is something that is living and powerful and transformative.
34:06And that's why you get benefit out of reading the scriptures above what you'll ever get from reading any other book.
34:12Because it's inspired and it's alive and it's transformative.
34:18All right, any other comments? Please come down with your call sign.
34:21KB7 ZXN.
34:22KB7 ZXN. Kevin, go ahead.
34:24Just wonderful comments and wonderful focus.
34:28And I can tell the Holy Spirit is at work this morning and in people's, what everyone's sharing.
34:36And it's so true.
34:37Well, and you sometimes hear expressed, well, what do we have to do with the law?
34:43That was the Old Testament.
34:44That was the old days.
34:45But keep in mind that the law pointed to Christ.
34:50And Jesus did not come to do away with the law, but to fulfill the law.
34:55So the law was fulfilled in him.
34:58And as we learn his law and his word here, too, we learn about Christ himself.
35:06It all points to Christ.
35:08The other thing, too, is I love the beauty.
35:10One of the most beautiful verses here is 102, when he says, you yourself have taught me.
35:17You know, we have the blessing of some good, learned teachers and can share some insights on the text that we're doing here.
35:25But the fact is, when we meditate and we observe the word, the same then as now, God himself opens up our heart to get it from our head to our heart.
35:41That's the work of God.
35:43As we see the Holy Spirit work in 14, John 14, verse 26, as John promises the coming of the Holy Spirit.
35:51But we also see Paul expressing it in 1 Corinthians 2, verses 12 through 14, is that God himself will do the work of bringing that, his word, from our understanding and the intellectual part of it, to our heart, to our inner being, to our who we are as a person.
36:15And that hasn't changed.
36:17But, you know, we can see the process of this here in this, of the time spent in the word, the meditation on it, the observing of it, and the blessing of it.
36:30And it is truly sweeter than honey.
36:32KB 7, does that accept?
36:34Yeah, Kevin, thank you so much for pointing out Psalm 102 and the fact that it's God who teaches us his word.
36:41And, you know, there's an interesting statement in 1 John, chapter 2, in verse 27.
36:511 John 2, 27 says,
36:53But the anointing which you have received of him abides in you, and you need not that any man teach you.
37:01But as the same anointing teaches you of all things, it is truth, it is no lie, and even as it has taught you, you shall abide in him.
37:09Now, a lot of times people misunderstand that passage.
37:14And they say, oh, well, it says I have no need for man to teach me, so I won't listen to any human teachers.
37:20I will just get all my teaching directly from God.
37:23Well, you know, when you look at the whole rest of the Bible, I mean, clearly, there's supposed to be human teachers.
37:31That's why men have the gift of teaching.
37:34That's why we gather in church to listen to pastor teachers.
37:40But Kevin's point is spot on.
37:43And that is, is that even through human teachers, it's God who teaches us.
37:48And the idea here is that humans do not mediate the truth of God to us.
37:55The spirit of God mediates the truth of God to us directly from the scriptures.
38:02And he sometimes uses human instruments to help us with that understanding.
38:09But ultimately, every person has the indwelling spirit of God.
38:13Every person has the word of God.
38:15And so every person is capable of understanding the scriptures and isn't in a situation where I cannot understand this unless some human teaches me.
38:27Now, we recognize that the unsaved certainly need human teachers.
38:32They can understand.
38:34You remember that when Philip met up with the Ethiopian eunuch, he's reading Isaiah 53, right?
38:40And Philip says, do you understand what you read?
38:42And he says, how can I accept some man instruct me?
38:45So certainly the unsaved who don't have the spirit of God need people to tell them what the word of God means.
38:52But the average Christian, with the spirit of God and with the word of God, can understand the teaching of God.
38:59And while God is gracious to supply human teachers, as you said there, Kevin, in verse 102, he says,
39:08For thou hast taught me.
39:10And it's good to know that we have direct access to God, we have the direct indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and he can be a teacher to us.
39:21So not to diminish the importance or the validity of human teachers, but they are not the primary or the sole source of instruction for us.
39:31We can read the Bible, we have the spirit of God, we can understand that.
39:36And you know, one of the things I see, Kevin, is people despairing of being able to understand the Bible themselves and just believing whatever someone tells them.
39:43And they don't search the scriptures for themselves to see if, in fact, those things that are being taught are true.
39:50Kevin, thanks for pointing out that phrase and that verse.
39:54All right, any other comments?
39:55Please come now.
40:00WB7, is it L?
40:01Roger, please go ahead.
40:03This is a personal illustration with Candy.
40:06When my sister-in-law Candy came up, in other words, N7BIT, she just came up to see my daughter and to have some time with her.
40:18And she came up and discovered, because she was driving after an earlier sundown, she had no low beams.
40:27No low beams.
40:28And so it was rough coming up here, you know, trying to be polite and no choice.
40:35Both lights were out, apparently.
40:37And so we went to the station.
40:39Well, the first thing I asked, well, Candy, what's going on?
40:43We need your owner's manual.
40:44Well, that car was used, and she did not have the owner's manual.
40:52And it kind of reminded me of trying to handle a dog without a collar.
40:59The owner's manual, we couldn't even do research about which fuse related to the low beams on this panel underneath.
41:08You know what it's like looking for fuses under the driver's side with your head upside down because, you know, you don't have a reference.
41:20And I kind of think of the Bible as the owner's manual.
41:25And when a person is converted, you recognize that you're not the owner truly.
41:32You're subservient to the one who wrote the owner's manual.
41:40And at any rate, when I read through this this morning, that illustration that recently happened to us,
41:47we had to go to the station to get things worked out, and they had the reference.
41:53So the Bible is kind of the reference from the person that created us, WB7 Vizidel.
41:59Roger, so well said.
42:01Thank you for that.
42:01The Bible is the owner's manual of the human race.
42:05And, you know, 105, verse 105 says,
42:08Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
42:13And so without the word of God, we're just walking in darkness.
42:16We don't know where we're going.
42:18We don't know what we're stumbling over.
42:20And so the good news is is that we do have an owner's manual.
42:24And it's people's refusal to read the owner's manual or their refusal to follow what the owner's manual says
42:32that results in people just crashing their lives and being nonfunctional in so many areas of their lives or dysfunctional.
42:42And so, yeah, if you don't run a car according to the owner's manual, the thing is going to be a wreck.
42:50And so we see so many lives that are just full of wreckage because they're not following what the owner's manual has to say.
42:58Great illustration there, Roger.
43:00Thank you for that.
43:01All right.
43:01Any other comments on any verses in our passage?
43:04Please come out.
43:04KJ-7 PVT.
43:07Mark, KJ-7 PVT.
43:09Go ahead.
43:10Yeah, I just wanted to follow up with the last comment about the necessity of an owner's manual.
43:20Well, a little different view of that is, you know, for my entire professional career was designing automated equipment.
43:32So we would first design the machinery.
43:35We would get it built.
43:37We would put it all together.
43:39These would be big, very complex machines.
43:43And then we would put the brains in them.
43:46We would take a programmable logic controller, a PLC, and we would program it to do what we wanted it to do, what our customer wanted it to do.
43:58And so that set of instructions was the lifeblood of making a machine in the first place.
44:07Without it, it would just sit there and do nothing.
44:10It had no idea what to do.
44:12It would not work all by itself.
44:14It had to have instructions.
44:17And we, and the person that programmed that, would make sure that it did what it did.
44:25And every once in a while, there would be hiccups in the programs, and it would not do what it was supposed to do.
44:32And it reminds me of a statement that says, in the Bible, it says,
44:37Search my heart, O Lord, and see if there's any wicked way in me.
44:40And I have always held that as the Lord coming up to my heart with his programmable logic controller and plugging in to me and searching me and finding there's a problem here with how you've got this figured out.
45:02So we're going to fix that for you.
45:04And that's just a point where it does.
45:06So there's, I know that's kind of a roundabout way of explaining that, but it has applications in all kinds of things that we do.
45:19Back to you, Max, KJ7 PBT.
45:22Yeah, Mark, great illustration.
45:26You bet.
45:27So Mark's an engineer.
45:28He designs industrial equipment.
45:30That industrial equipment has programmable logic controllers that tell the equipment what to do.
45:36And occasionally the programming is done with some errors, and they have to go back and get into that thing and fix it.
45:45And so here we are as humans, and God's given us a brain, and he's given us a heart, he's given us emotions.
45:52These are the things that control and determine what we do.
45:56Well, what we need God to do is take his word and plug it into our brain and our heart and our emotions.
46:03And as it were, give us the instructions that we need in order to function in the way he designed us to do.
46:13And so that's a good illustration, Mark, from real life as to how the word of God works in us and through us.
46:20So praise the Lord for the scriptures that don't have any broken lines of code in them.
46:29You know, we don't have to go back and reprogram the scriptures.
46:34It's a perfect program.
46:35No bugs.
46:36We just need to get it plugged into our minds and our lives and operate according to it.
46:42And when we do, everything runs smoothly in our lives.
46:47Mark, thank you for that final comment.
46:49All right, we are out of time.
46:51There is a lot in this psalm.
46:53I wrote down a list of verses that I could potentially comment on if nobody had anything to say.
46:58I've got 97, 105, 107, 125, 126, 130, 133, and 136.
47:10Those are ones that jumped out to me as I'm reading through this.
47:14I'm thinking, man, that's good stuff.
47:15Need to pay attention to that.
47:17Not that the other verses weren't, but, you know, some of them are like, yeah, that really hits home with me
47:25and the needs that are in my life right now.
47:28Okay, real good.
47:29Any final prayer requests before Al leads us in prayer?
47:32Please come now with your request.
47:41All right, Al, I am not hearing any requests, so go ahead and close in prayer for us, please.
47:47Thank you, Pastor Max.
47:49Good morning, everyone on the net.
47:50This is KJ7QQH.

55:42and mostly for the gift of your son, Jesus Christ.
55:45And through him, that we pray all these things.
55:48Amen.
55:49This is KJ7QQH, returning back to you there, Pastor Max, at NetControl.
55:55Amen.
55:57Amen.
55:58Thank you so much, Al, for that prayer.
56:00Really appreciate you bringing us to the throne of grace and presenting our hearts' needs before the Lord.
56:06May he be pleased to answer each of those prayers.
56:10All right, this is WB70MX, NetControl for the West Coast Bible Studies.
56:13And that we'd like to recognize Dave, K-E-7-W-K-I, who checked in on the Utah SCR a while ago.
56:20Dave, thanks for being with us.
56:22I'd also like to thank all the stations who checked in, as well as those who stood by to give us a clear operating frequency.
56:28We meet here seven days a week at 6 a.m. in order to read the scriptures,
56:32understand their meaning, message, and application,
56:35and then to pray for grace and mercy to be able to live out the lessons that we learn
56:40and for God to meet the needs of those that are in our circle of fellowship.
56:44I'll be returning this frequency now to regular amateur use.
56:47This is WB70MX, and I will be clear and standing by.
56:54KM5S?
56:54Will, KM5S, please go ahead.
56:57Well, since we don't have Beck to give us some humor today,
57:00I thought I'd have a, we'll read a little bit of humor.
57:05Great, go ahead.
57:06Coffee?
57:09Great, go ahead.
57:10Yeah, okay.
57:12Coffee has a rough time in our house.
57:15It gets mugged every single morning.
57:18KM5S.
57:21That's good.
57:22Coffee has a tough time in our house.
57:24It gets mugged every morning.
57:26That's funny.
57:27Yep, I drink coffee out of a coffee mug.
57:29I've got one sitting right here on my desk.
57:32And, yep, coffee got mugged.
57:34Thanks for that, Will.
57:35That was good.
57:36All right, any other comments?
57:38Please come down with your call, Glenn.
57:39Max, I've been here all along.
57:42I just come in just a bit after you started.
57:45KI6 WXP.
57:47Good morning.
57:48I loved it.
57:49All right.
57:49Good morning, Joe.
57:50KI6 WXP.
57:51Glad to hear you were here for the Bible study.
57:53And, yep, we got you checked in.
57:55Appreciate you, brother.
57:56How are you doing?
57:57Oh, very good.
57:58Yeah, I was hoping that guy's okay that I ran into yesterday.
58:02I went to Stanton out to go to order a couple pairs of glasses.
58:05I got a good deal on them.
58:06But anyway, I was walking in there, and somebody's yelling.
58:09I go, yeah, what's this guy want?
58:11Usually they want a beer or a bag of something, you know.
58:14But he goes, I'll buy you lunch.
58:16You know, you and your wife.
58:17He goes, I need some gas.
58:19He had a gallon jug in his hand, a water bottle.
58:23And I looked at this guy.
58:24He's telling me a story that he got out of a hospital.
58:27He walked out of there because they weren't doing, you know, treating him right.
58:31He said he's bleeding inside.
58:33He ran out of gas.
58:34He left his dog in the car.
58:35And I'm looking at him.
58:37I usually don't go super out of my way to help somebody that I think is going to go get some drugs or whatever.
58:44But anyway, this guy seemed like he needed help.
58:48So I got him going.
58:49And they went and got him some gas and got him going.
58:53And I'm just praying that this guy's all right.
58:55I think what he was telling me was true.
58:58The car was nice.
58:59It wasn't like it was some homeless guy that, you know, with absolutely nothing.
59:04I think he was really in trouble, Max.
59:08Well, thank the Lord that you ran into him and that you were able to help him.
59:12And so, yeah, I'm sorry to hear about, you know, his lack of proper treatment at the hospital.
59:21I mean, if he is bleeding inside, if he is right about that, he certainly needs some treatment.
59:27But you did what you could, Joe.
59:28Thank you for helping him out.
59:31And we'll just pray that God provides for his needs both physically and also medically.
59:40So did you get his name there, Joe?
59:43No, I did, and I was pretty busy.
59:46I helped him get his car jump-started.
59:48The battery was dead.
59:50You know, what I was getting, I think God put us in that location at that time.
59:54I don't know why I went to that eye doctor first.
59:57I was running different errands in the other town that was then.
60:01And I changed my routine for some stupid reason with no thought involved.
60:07So I'm thinking God put us in that location.
60:10You know what I'm saying?
60:12Oh, yeah, I know exactly what you're saying.
60:13Yeah, there's no accidents in this life, Joe.
60:16God, you know, a man's heart devises his way, but the Lord directs his steps.
60:21And so what he did is he brought you into contact with that guy because he intended you to meet him and be able to help him out.
60:33So, yeah, God had a purpose in that.
60:36You know, you served, you gave, you helped, and so you represented Christ to him.
60:42And hopefully, through that contact and representation, he'll turn to God and thank God for sending you into his life and be able to connect.
60:54So, yeah, Joe, that was something God designed for you.
60:59And it sounds like to me that you did really well in that situation in showing compassion and generosity and kindness.
61:08And that's what God is like, and that's how he deals with us.
61:12And so you echoed that and reflected that into that man's life.
61:16So praise the Lord, Joe.
61:19God gave you an opportunity to minister, and you did, and you did well.
61:22Over to you.
61:24Roger that.
61:25Thanks.
61:25Yeah, I just know that stuff happens like that.
61:28I've run through life like that ever since I was little.
61:31And you know how God puts instruments as teachers right there first.
61:36You know, you guys were talking about, you know, the teaching and how you're capable of learning yourself by reading.
61:43God puts teachers involved.
61:45The first thing they do is teach you to read, and then you got it made.
61:50Yeah, amen.
61:51Yeah, no one can go through life without teachers, but that doesn't mean that they need to depend on those teachers and not do any work themselves.
61:59So you're right.
62:01It's like, let's listen to good teaching, and then let's get in the Bible and learn for ourselves what's in there.
62:08Because we have the Spirit of God.
62:09We have the Word of God.
62:10We can learn.
62:12And praise the Lord for our teachers and all the help they give to us.
62:17It's not an either or.
62:19It's a both and.
62:19We need teachers, and we need to study on our own as well.
62:23So good insight there, Joe.
62:26Go ahead.
62:28Yeah, like you can read a third grade or so, I reckon, and then you go to church, your mom and dad take you to church.
62:34And what you don't really understand, you know, about what you're reading, you have the minister, preacher, whoever's involved there in the front telling you and explain it to you.
62:45So it all works out really good.
62:47Yes, it does.
62:49It works out really well.
62:50So praise the Lord for our teachers.
62:53I'm so thankful for all the people that have taught me so much.
62:56Just try to pass that along to others.
62:58And that's what Paul says to Timothy, right?
62:592 Timothy 2.2.
63:01He says,
63:01The things which you have learned of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men who shall be able to teach others also.
63:10So Paul taught Timothy.
63:11Timothy taught faithful men.
63:13Those faithful men taught others.
63:15And that's how the truth gets transmitted.
63:18But we also have that truth written in the scriptures for us to read.
63:24And that's how it gets transmitted as well.
63:27So praise the Lord for the ongoing presence of the scriptures, the ongoing work of teachers, and the ongoing operation of the Holy Spirit working in teachers and in the scriptures and in our hearts.
63:41So that when it's all said and done, we get the message we need, which is the gospel and the fact that if we repent of our sins and trust in Jesus alone for our salvation, we'll be reconciled to God and over time conformed to the image of Christ.
63:57Back to you, Joe.
63:58QSL, and don't forget the gifts you get along the way.
64:03There's some people who play instruments.
64:05There's some people.
64:06Like, I do stuff with my hands.
64:08People go, where did you learn that?
64:09I go, I don't know.
64:11It just comes to me.
64:12It just, everybody has a gift.
64:15And then you have teachers to help you.
64:17Yeah, the Bible, you just, yeah, it's pretty pat and dry.
64:21It's a recipe of life.
64:24KI6WXP.
64:24I don't want to hold it up.
64:25It's a good one this morning.
64:27Yeah, real good, Joe.
64:29Yeah, and you know, everyone does have a gift, and it's related to their calling.
64:33I mean, you know, your calling has been to do mechanics and mechanical things.
64:38And, you know, that's why God gave you that ability.
64:41You know, I don't have that ability so much.
64:43Or if I do, it's at a much lower level.
