The Bible reading

Psalm 119:137-176

The West Coast Bible Study concluded its journey through Psalm 119 by reading verses 137 through 176. The study emphasized that this psalm is the longest chapter in the Bible and that nearly every verse references the Word of God. The discussion highlighted the necessity of balancing a focus on God with a focus on Scripture to avoid mysticism or legalism.

Insights

  • When society departs from truth, believers should increase their zeal for the Scriptures rather than give up.
  • The 'blind guides' warning in Matthew 15:14 applies to modern false teachers who rely on credentials rather than biblical accuracy.
  • Reading the Bible should be the primary activity, with human writings serving as secondary resources to be tested against Scripture.
  • The historical sacrifice of translators like Tyndale and Luther makes the modern Bible a precious gift that demands careful study.
  • Meditating on the Word day and night is the primary defense against the dominion of sin and worldly passions.

2:56I've got to take care of a couple of doggies this morning here for a few minutes, but I'll be here.
3:02And I heard about your situation last night, Max.
3:04Oh, my goodness.
3:05We went through that with our daughter, man, recently, and I know what that's about.
3:11And we had you guys in prayer last night, and we'll continue on.
3:16Yeah, I appreciate that.
3:17Yep, just one step at a time.
3:19We're full of fans and dehumidifiers right now.

4:14WB-7VZL.
4:24WB-7VZL, good to hear your voice.
4:29How you doing, brother?
4:31Well, we had the awesome privilege to host Autumn to her new location
4:38and go shopping for a rug and place rugs in the bathroom
4:47and see what needs to be improved and cleaned.
4:52And, yeah, so it was a new setting, and, of course, she has a new universe to figure out,
5:07which is good for her brain.
5:09Over.
5:09Yeah, copy that.
5:11Glad to hear that God answered prayer and she got into a new place.
5:15That's going to be a blessing, I think, for her and for you.
5:19And good answer to prayer there.
5:21Thank you for that.
5:23Roger, we're about to start the Bible study, and I'd like to ask you to open in prayer when the time comes.
5:28Can you do that for me?
5:30I'd be very privileged to.
5:32All right, I'll let you know in just a minute.
5:34All right, WB7MX here looking for check-ins.
5:37Please come down with your call sign.
5:57All right, just looking over my SDRs here, make sure we've got everybody checked in.
6:01All right, I think we do.
6:03We are going to get started with a West Coast Bible study.
6:05We are in Psalm 119, that's 119, and we're going to start at verse 137, that's 137.
6:14We'll finish the psalm today.
6:16It's been quite the journey.
6:17Of course, this is not only the longest psalm in the book of Psalms, it's the longest chapter in the entire Bible.
6:23And as we've been proceeding through this book, we've recognized a couple of things about it,
6:30with the exception of five verses.
6:33Every one of these 176 verses mention the Word of God under one term or another.
6:41And so there's about seven or eight different terms that are used here to describe the Word of God.
6:47And so this is the prayer of a man of God about the Word of God to the God who inspired that Word.
6:56So what we have here is our psalmist focusing on the Word of God and focusing on the God of the Word.
7:08And we said, once we started out, we have to focus on both of those things.
7:12If we try to focus on God without the Scriptures, we just descend into mysticism and self-invented ideas about God.
7:22If we focus on the Scriptures without God, we just become proud, pharisaical legalists who are all about the Scriptures,
7:30but are ignorant of the God that they reveal.
7:33So we need to have both.
7:36And so that's what we're learning about here is the Scriptures and about God
7:40and about how we as Christians relate to the Word of God and the God of the Word.
7:48All right.
7:49That's a little introduction here of what we're doing.
7:51But before we get started with our Bible study, we want to open in prayer.
7:56And so, Roger, WB7BZL, if you could open in prayer for us today.
7:59I sure appreciate that.
8:00Go ahead, brother.
8:01Dear Lord, we come before you with a heightened awareness that you have answered,
8:11especially my dear wife's prayer.
8:14And it's been a long haul for us.
8:17But it's been good for us spiritually, too, to go to you in great need for the changes that have occurred.
8:29And you have just poured out your word to us and promises, and you have answered our prayers.
8:42So, Lord, as we come before you, we again pray for your Holy Spirit to answer the many prayers
8:50that are represented in our group today.
8:53May they see also the evidences of your watch here and your love,
8:59like we've seen evidence as of late.
9:02In Jesus' name, amen.
9:05Amen, Roger.
9:06Thank you so much for that prayer.
9:08All right, Bert W7RKD is going to read for us, Psalm 119.
9:12He's going to start at verse 137 and read through to the end of the psalm.
9:18Bert W7RKD, go ahead.
9:22Hello, this is W7RKD.
9:24It's up here in Troy, Montana.
9:27Beginning, let's see, Psalms 119, beginning at 137.
9:32Righteous are you, O Lord, and upright are your judgments.
9:39Your testimonies, which you have commanded, are righteous and very faithful.
9:45My zeal has consumed me because my enemies have forgotten your words.
9:50Your word is very pure, therefore your servant loves it.
9:55I am small and despised, yet I do not forget your precepts.
9:59Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and your law is truth.
10:08Trouble and anguish have overtaken me, yet your commandments are my delights.
10:15The righteousness of your testimonies is everlasting.
10:19Give me understanding, and I shall live.
10:22My eyes are awake through the night, watches, that I may meditate on your word.
10:32Hear my voice according to your loving kindness.
10:36O Lord, revive me according to your justice.
10:40They draw near who follow after wickedness.
10:45They are far from your law.
10:47You are near, O Lord, and all your commandments are truth.
10:53Concerning your testimonies, I have known of old that you have founded them forever.
11:01And this is verse 53 for those who are just catching up.
11:06Consider my affliction and deliver me, for I do not forget your law.
11:12Lord, please, plead my cause and redeem me.
11:18Revive me according to your word.
11:21Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek your statues.
11:27Great are your tender mercies, O Lord.
11:31Revive me according to your judgments.
11:33Many are my persecutors and my enemies, yet I do not turn from your testimonies.
11:43I see the treacherous and am disgusted, because they do not keep your word.
11:51Consider how I love your precepts.
11:55Revive me, O Lord, according to your loving kindness.
11:57The entirety of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous judgments endures forever.
12:10Princes persecute me without a cause, but my heart stands in awe of your word.
12:17I rejoice at your word.
12:19As one who finds great treasure, I hate and abhor lying, but I love your law.
12:26Seven times a day I praise you because of your righteous judgments.
12:32Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing causes them to stumble.
12:40Lord, I hope for your salvation, and I do your commandments.
12:46My soul keeps your testimonies, and I love them exceedingly.
12:50I keep your precepts and your testimonies, for all my ways are before you.
12:58Let my cry come before you, O Lord.
13:01Give me understanding according to your word.
13:05Let my supplication come before you.
13:09Deliver me according to your word.
13:12My lips shall utter praise, for you teach me your statutes.
13:17My tongue shall speak your word, for all your commandments are righteousness.
13:24Let your hand become my help, for I have chosen your precepts.
13:30I long for your salvation, O Lord, and your law is my delight.
13:35Let my soul live, and it shall praise you.
13:39And let your judgments help me.
13:41I have gone astray like a lost sheep.
13:45Seek your servant, for I do not forget your commandments.
13:50And that was the end right there of Psalm 119.
13:56Over to you, Max, W7RKD.
14:00All right, Bert, W7RKD.
14:02Great reading.
14:03Thank you for that.
14:04Strong signal.
14:05Ten over down here, and a five on your voice.
14:08So, thanks for firing up that amp.
14:10Yeah.
14:11All right, WB7MAX here, net control for the West Coast Bible Study.
14:16Bert, W7RKD.
14:17Just read for us on 119, 137 to 176.
14:21Any comments on this section, or any verses in it, please come now with your call sign.
14:25Okay, I'm sorry, that's right.
14:33All right, Roger, WB7BZL.
14:36Go ahead.
14:37Yeah, the phrase of 139, first 139, that immediately jumped out at me due to the quote,
14:49that the memory of John in John 2, 17, that my zeal, in this sense, Christ's zeal for his father
15:04and his mission and his reformation of, well, the reformation of all of us and of salvation
15:18to consummate it consumed me.
15:22So that's what really jumped out at me at this passage, and I had not entered this passage
15:27as Bert had started reading with that expectation at all.
15:31Oh, nice surprise, Mac, over.
15:34Yeah, so 139, thy zeal has consumed me because my enemies have forgotten thy words.
15:42And so when he sees the apostasy that's all around him, he doesn't just let his shoulders slump down.
15:49He doesn't just give up and say, oh, well, you know, the society is too far gone.
15:55I just, you know, Christianity isn't working.
15:59No, not at all.
16:00The more he sees the people around him forgetting the scriptures, the more he's fired up to bring the knowledge of those scriptures
16:10and to live them out himself and to proclaim them.
16:15And it was the same way, as you said, in Jesus' day in John chapter 2.
16:18He goes into the temple.
16:21He's finding people selling ox and sheep and doves and the money changers sitting there, and he drives them out of the temple.
16:30And his disciples remembered.
16:32That which is written, the zeal of thine house has eaten me up.
16:36And so while that's a quote of Psalm 69 and verse 9, nevertheless, our passage echoes that very directly.
16:45And so, you know, the lesson here, as you point out, and that is, is that when it seems like the wicked are succeeding,
16:55when it seems like the worship of God is being defiled,
17:00and that things are going negatively in terms of people's obedience to the word of God,
17:08that's the time for us to double down and be even more zealous and even, even more aggressive in not only living out the scriptures,
17:18but proclaiming them to others and upholding that standard and not letting that standard or those beliefs or those doctrines be diluted down
17:29or even, Lord forbid, forgotten and neglected.
17:34So, yeah, let's increase our zeal when we see those around us departing from the truth.
17:41Roger, great passage there.
17:43Thank you for pointing that out.
17:45All right, I think there was someone else in there with Roger.
17:47Roger, I heard a double other station.
17:49Please come down.
17:50KM5F.
17:51Will, KM5F, go ahead.
17:53Yeah, I was just looking at some notes that I had here on the letters of the Hebrew, Psalm 119.
18:01It starts out with Elf, and I don't know if I'm pronouncing that right, but it deals with the oneness of the Creator.
18:08But the last letter symbolizes the cross, symbolizing truth, a seal, and completion or perfection.
18:17I found that cross being the end of the psalm was kind of interesting.
18:23KM5F.
18:24Yeah, that is interesting.
18:26So that's tal, and that T reminds us of the cross for sure.
18:32So thanks for pointing that out.
18:35You know, I hadn't heard of the meaning of those Hebrew letters that you've been bringing out, and I really appreciate that.
18:42If you could send me a list, I'd be interested in looking into that, Will.
18:48So thanks for pointing that out to us.
18:52All right, any other comments on our passage?
18:55Please come down.
18:57KK7 OQQ.
18:58KJ7 PVT.
18:59Okay, KK7 OQQ, I think you were doing a relay for KJ7 PVT.
19:07Is that correct?
19:08No, I had a comment.
19:09I didn't hear anyone.
19:10I might have doubled.
19:12Okay, no worries.
19:13Go ahead, Ted.
19:14Yeah, I like 134, I believe.
19:22No, it's 133.
19:24Direct my steps by your word, and let no iniquity have dominion over me.
19:34And I just think, from my own experience, how different passions like lust, pride, vanity, vainglory, you know, especially in our culture where we're just bombarded with this stuff.
19:54And, you know, it's easy to let this stuff just dominate me and take over.
20:05So it's like I'm no longer driving the car, you know.
20:12I'm no longer even in control if I allow the spirit of lust to take over my life and grab the steering wheel.
20:26I'm not even driving the car anymore.
20:30Something else is, and that's where I think you get stuff like oppression and obsession of the mind.
20:39And then it turns into possession.
20:42And a lot of people don't, you know, they think of the exorcist or something.
20:46It's like, you know, being possessed by anger to the point of committing murder, you know, that's demonic, you know.
20:57So, yeah, yeah, I try to be aware of that.
21:03And, yeah, let not sin be a ruler and dominate in my life.
21:13I like that.
21:14And live according to God's word.
21:16Amen.
21:17Back to you, Pastor Max.
21:18Real good, Ted.
21:21Thank you for that great observation.
21:23And, yes, 133, order my steps in thy word and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.
21:33And, you know, we're either going to have sin in our life or we're going to have the scriptures in our life.
21:39They can't coexist together.
21:41And so you're exactly right.
21:43These sins want to come in and dominate us, control us, and take charge of our lives.
21:50And how do we combat that?
21:52Well, you know, Psalm 1 and verse 2, our delight is in the law of the Lord and in his laws do we meditate day and night.
22:02Because, you know, something's going to come in and take over.
22:05And either it's the spirit of God and it's the word of God or else it's Satan and sin and all the attendant vices that flow out of his program.
22:16So, yeah, Ted, that's a battle.
22:18We all fight every day.
22:21And so Jesus says in John 15 and verse 3,
22:25Now are you clean through the word which I have spoken to you.
22:30And so what I find is the more I read the scriptures, the more I meditate in them, the more I pray according to them, the less of a hold those other things have on me.
22:42And so in John 17 and verse 17, Jesus said,
22:46Sanctify them by thy truth.
22:48Thy word is truth.
22:50So the Bible is living and powerful and it has a sanctifying power to it.
22:57And the more saturated we are with the word of God, the less inclined we are to give in to all of these things in the world that assault us.
23:10As you said, lust and pride and anger and covetousness and all these sins that do so easily beset us.
23:19And we have to keep our eyes focused on Jesus and focused on the word.
23:23And as we do, the power of those things is broken and we wind up making much better choices.
23:31Ted, great insight on 133.
23:34Thank you for that.
23:35All right.
23:35I think I also heard Mark KJ7 PVT.
23:38Mark, please go ahead.
23:40Yes, thanks, man.
23:42I'm reminded here as I was reading past 139 that my deal has consumed me.
23:50And my brain went on the way and as I read that before, 2 John 2, verse 17, where the disciples are in the end of it.
24:03After Jesus, the temple, that is said of him.
24:08So that's one of the things that the disciples bring up as a messianic prophecy.
24:15For him, it also occurs in Psalm 69, 9.
24:21And there's a few other ones as well.
24:25Back to you, Pastor Matthew.
24:26Yeah, thank you for pointing out that messianic connection there, Mark.
24:34Indeed, this was said of the Lord Jesus.
24:36The zeal of thine house has consumed me.
24:39When he zealously cleansed the temple from all of the things that have polluted and defiled it,
24:46the commercialism in particular, where they were making merchandise of the word of God,
24:51of the house of God, of the worship of God.
24:53And, you know, Mark, as you well know, there's a lot of people who are in the religion business.
25:01They're looking for making money, and some do.
25:05They fly around their private jets in one thing and another.
25:08And, you know, and yet the Son of Man had not where to lay his head.
25:14And so we need to be zealous for upholding the purity of the gospel
25:19and also the integrity in the pursuit of gospel ministry,
25:25not being greedy and filthy lucre.
25:28And so that's what was happening there.
25:30And Jesus was zealous to drive that spirit of covetousness and commercialism right out of the church.
25:39It was the temple at that point in history.
25:42And to make the house of God a place of prayer and a place of worship,
25:47not a place to gain wealth and power and influence.
25:51Mark, thank you for pointing out that passage in Psalm 139
25:56and connecting that with our Messiah.
25:59All right, any other comments?
26:00Please come down with your call sign.
26:01Okay, I heard a call sign come again.
26:08Is that a follow-up?
26:09A follow-up, follow-up.
26:10Yeah, Mark, go ahead, follow-up, please.
26:14The last piece of 139 says,
26:18Because my enemies have forgotten my words.
26:21And you hear Jesus talking to Nicodemus like this.
26:26He's explaining to him that he must be born again.
26:30He doesn't have a place to put this in.
26:34He's going, what do you need to be born again?
26:37What in the world are you talking about in Jesus?
26:40The answer is, wait a minute, hear a leader.
26:46In here, or in here, this stuff.
26:49This is a little captured right there,
26:51because my enemies have forgotten my words.
26:55KB7-CVT.
26:56Yeah, so Mark followed up with the second half of 139,
27:03because my enemies have forgotten my words.
27:05And, you know, forgetting the scriptures
27:07is something we need to be very wary of.
27:14It's something we need to fight against.
27:17You know, there's a passage in Hebrews, chapter 2,
27:20that says we need to give the more earnest things to the earnest heed.
27:24We need to give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard,
27:28lest at any time we let them slip away.
27:31And you're right.
27:32I mean, there's a lot of supposed pastors and Bible teachers
27:36who are ignorant of vast and important sections of the Word of God
27:42and what it teaches, and that was the problem with Nicodemus, right,
27:47is that he did not understand the very basics of conversion,
27:52that you must be born again.
27:54And so the Old Testament talked a lot about having a circumcised heart
27:58and about the heart of stone being taken out and given a heart of flesh
28:03and the new covenant in which God was going to write his law on our hearts
28:09and put them in our minds.
28:11And so it was those basic concepts of the true nature of conversion
28:15that Nicodemus was ignorant of.
28:18And so, as Mark was saying, we need to not forget the things that are in God's Word.
28:25We need to constantly be re-reading and re-minding ourselves of what's in there,
28:33and that's why, you know, it's so important for us to meditate in that Word day and night
28:37and saturate ourselves with the knowledge of the Scripture.
28:40Because in the end, you know, the knowledge of the Word of God,
28:43as we've read previously, is more valuable than millions of silver and gold
28:48and rubies and diamonds.
28:50So let's put our priority where it belongs.
28:53Let's continually remind ourselves of the truth,
28:56give the more earnest heed that we don't let these things slip away.
29:00Mark, great comment. Thank you for that.
29:02All right, any other comments? Please come now.
29:07All right, while you're thinking, I would like to make a comment on verse 140.
29:22Verse 140 says,
29:24Thy word is very pure, therefore thy servant loves it.
29:29And, you know, what is being said there is that there's no mixture of error in with the truth of God.
29:38You know, a lot of people have this attitude, well, you know, some of the Scripture is true,
29:43and some of it isn't, and some of it's inspired, and some of it's not,
29:48and there's mistakes in the Bible.
29:51You know, they say those kinds of things.
29:53Well, they're completely wrong.
29:55You know, when it says here in verse 140 that thy word is very pure,
30:01what is being said there is there's no error mixed in with it.
30:06It's entirely and completely truth.
30:10And Jesus echoed this in John chapter 10 when he says the Scriptures cannot be broken.
30:16And what he meant by that is they can never be proved to be an error or to have any falsehoods contained in them.
30:28So it's really good to know that we have a pure Bible, one that is fully inspired by God.
30:36As it says in 2 Timothy 3 and verse 16,
30:40So we not only have the inspiration of Scripture, the inerrancy of Scripture, but we have the sufficiency of Scripture.
31:01We don't need anything other than the Bible to guide us in all things related to life and to practice.
31:09And so we don't need other supposed inspired books.
31:12The Bible alone is pure.
31:15The Bible alone is sufficient.
31:18So I was just really struck by that verse.
31:21Thy word is very pure.
31:23Therefore thy servant loves it.
31:24There's a lot of impure writings that are floating around out there.
31:30But you'll never find any error when you read the words of God like you do when you read the words of myth.
31:37All right.
31:38Other comments on our passage?
31:40Please come now.
31:43WB7, Is it Al?
31:44Roger, please go ahead.
31:46Yeah.
31:47As you have highlighted, Max, it's pure also in the sense that it is the core primary source for all Christian writing.
32:02So, yeah, it's probably fairly risky to not know the Bible that well and to read Christian material.
32:13And if there's a synergistic experience when you read other perspectives to have this background and especially coming at theology, as you've been highlighting over.
32:32Yeah, for sure.
32:33You know, we have to put every human teaching to the test of the Scriptures.
32:38And, you know, even when the inspired Apostle Paul was preaching in Berea, it says they gladly received, you know, Paul's teaching.
32:49And then they searched the Scriptures daily to see whether those things were so.
32:54And so any human teaching we get needs to be put to the test of Scripture.
32:59Well, as you said, if we don't know the Scriptures that well, it's easy for us to be deceived by poor Bible teachers who mislead about what the Bible actually teaches.
33:12So one of my favorite verses, Isaiah 8 and verse 20, to the law and to the testimony.
33:19If they speak not according to this word, it's because there's no light in them.
33:23So the Scriptures are light, and anything that contradicts it is darkness.
33:29The Scriptures are true, and anything that contradicts it is falsehood.
33:35And so, you know, as our text says, it's pure.
33:39Anything that contradicts it is defiled.
33:42And so you're right.
33:44You know, the trouble with us, Roger, is that we read the Bible a little bit, and we read human writings a lot.
33:53And really, that needs to be inverted.
33:55We need to read the Bible a lot, and then read human writings less.
34:04Because it's so easy to forget what's there and to be misled about what's there.
34:11And so, you know, as I quoted earlier in this Bible study, Psalm 1 and verse 2 is,
34:17The light is in the law of the Lord, and in his law that they meditate day and night.
34:20So we're constantly in the Scriptures.
34:22We're thinking about the Scriptures.
34:24We're reflecting on the Scriptures.
34:26We're reading the Scriptures.
34:28And they are the light to our feet and the lamp to our path, as we saw in, I think it was 105 of this Psalm.
34:37So, Roger, thank you for pointing out the importance and the centrality of reading the Word of God first and then using that as a frame of reference with which to evaluate any human teachings or readings that we do.
34:54And that includes anything I say on this net.
34:57I'm not infallible.
34:58The Scriptures are infallible.
35:00And so everything each person says needs to be measured by what does the Word of God say, because it's the authority.
35:08I'm not the authority.
35:10No human is the authority.
35:12The Scriptures themselves are the authority.
35:15Roger, great comment.
35:16Thank you for that.
35:17All right.
35:17Any other comments?
35:18Please come now.
35:27WB7, is it out?
35:28Roger, go ahead with the follow-up.
35:30Yeah, I was just, I had to use the, I had to use the commentary, well, the concordance at the end of the Bible.
35:39And I found it, I haven't turned to the passage, but Matthew 15, 14 is the phrase that Jesus uses for what subject that we've been talking about,
35:51the concern of not going to the primary sources.
35:54It says, Matthew 15, 14, Jesus refers to them as blind guides.
36:02I mean, I got it here.
36:03Yeah.
36:04But he answered and said, every plant which my father did not plant shall be rooted up.
36:12That's kind of speaking to this issue.
36:15Let them alone.
36:17They are blind guides of the blind.
36:21And if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit.
36:30So that's Christ's red letter words about some of the blitz circles around the topic that we've talked about.
36:40Over.
36:40Yeah, amen, well said.
36:43And that's why we have to be so careful, because there's lots and lots and lots of blind guides out there.
36:49And that was one of Paul's chief concerns at the end of his life.
36:53He's going to Jerusalem and doesn't know what's going to happen to him there.
36:57And so he's talking to the Ephesian elders there in Acts chapter 20.
37:01And he says in verse 28, Acts 20, 28,
37:06Take heed, therefore, to yourselves and to all the flock,
37:11over which the Holy Ghost has made you overseers,
37:13to feed the church of God, which he has purchased with his own blood.
37:16Now here it is.
37:18For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you,
37:22not sparing the flock.
37:24Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things,
37:29to draw away disciples after them.
37:32Therefore watch and remember that by the space of three years
37:35I cease not to warn everyone night and day with tears.
37:40And so what Paul is saying there is that it's going to be the norm.
37:44It's going to be the norm that false teachers abound.
37:48It's going to be the norm that wolves in sheep's clothing rise up.
37:51And it's going to be the norm that people that we thought previously were sound in the faith
37:56wind up going off into the weeds of some false doctrine or teaching or practice.
38:03And so, yeah, you're exactly right.
38:05We have to be on guard against these false teachers and this false teaching,
38:11the blind trying to lead us, you know, and because they say they see, but they really don't see.
38:22And that is a classic example of the Pharisees, right, and the Sadducees.
38:27These were guys who had, like, their doctorates in theology, right?
38:31They were highly educated in the scriptures, and yet what were they, blind guides.
38:38And so don't be impressed by theological degrees.
38:41Don't be dismayed by the lack thereof.
38:44Ask yourself, you know, is this person accurately representing what the Bible teaches,
38:50or are they trying to intimidate me into believing something based on their credentials
38:57and their supposed knowledge of the scriptures?
39:01So we've got to go and compare it all with the Bible and recognize that there's going to be a lot,
39:08not a few, but a lot of false teachers out there that are saying,
39:13come and go and follow me instead of following the scriptures.
39:17Roger, thanks for pointing out that passage in Matthew chapter 15 and verse 14.
39:24All right, any other comments on this passage?
39:27Please come now.
39:32W-A-7-B-X-X.
39:35Lloyd, good morning.
39:37W-A-7-B-X-X.
39:38Go ahead, brother.
39:40Yeah, when he was reading the scriptures there from 137 to 176,
39:47it reminded me of the times way back,
39:54and a lot of us may be in the same situation right now.
39:59I don't tear the verses down piece by piece,
40:04but the entire concept of what was being said there,
40:11he said, revived me several times,
40:13reminded me of the times that we sinned,
40:21and we're coming back to the Lord.
40:26We're asking the Holy Spirit to revive us,
40:29to forgive us,
40:30to bring us back into the remembrance of what we should be doing.
40:34And I'm not saying totally that one individual verse in there,
40:45but it always comes back to me,
40:471 John 1.8.
40:49If we say we have no sin,
40:52we deceive ourselves,
40:53and the truth is not in us.
40:56And then 1.9 says,
40:57if we confess our sins,
40:59he's faithful and just to forgive us our sins,
41:02and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
41:06And that, to me,
41:08is basically what is happening here.
41:14The writer of the psalm here is,
41:18he's got lots of enemies,
41:20he's asking the Lord to revive him,
41:23he's asking the Lord to take care of his enemies.
41:27That's kind of what I'm getting out of this entire thing there.
41:32And I, like a lot of other people,
41:36like to tear verses down
41:37and see where they came from
41:39and where they're going,
41:40but we have to remember the entire concept
41:44of what is being said.
41:47And that's kind of where I'm coming from.
41:49Go ahead.
41:51Lloyd, thank you for that.
41:52Yeah, the big picture is really important to get.
41:56And, you know,
41:57when you look at the big picture of this psalm,
41:59and, of course, the section we're reading,
42:01it's exactly right.
42:02Here's a man drawing near to God.
42:06Here's a man praying
42:07that he would be forgiven of his sins
42:10and that he would be brought into a better submission
42:14and a closer walk with God.
42:17And you're exactly right.
42:19This psalm is a prayer for revival
42:22of the soul.
42:24And that involves, of course,
42:25confession of sin.
42:28It also involves
42:29learning the commandments
42:32and the teachings.
42:34And it also involves
42:36a spirit and heart of worship,
42:39a single-minded focus
42:40on what's most important in life.
42:43And so, yeah, I appreciate that.
42:45Like you say,
42:46we can get all burrowed down
42:50into the exegesis of the words
42:51of a particular passage,
42:52but let's stand back
42:54and look at the big picture.
42:56And the big picture is one of revival.
42:59And I really appreciate that.
43:02You know,
43:03in 154,
43:05it says,
43:06Plead my cause
43:07and deliver me.
43:09Revive me
43:09according to thy word.
43:12And so,
43:12what I find,
43:13Lloyd,
43:14is as I read the Bible,
43:15I get revived.
43:17As I read the Bible,
43:18I'm convicted
43:19and brought to confess my sins.
43:21As I read the Bible,
43:23I see Jesus
43:24as a savior from sin,
43:26someone in whom I can trust
43:27for forgiveness
43:28and for cleansing
43:30and for redemption.
43:33Someone who will present me
43:35faultless before the Father
43:37with exceeding joy.
43:38And so,
43:39my trust in him is revived.
43:42And then I see that
43:43here's how he wants me to live.
43:45And he wants me to live this way
43:47because it'll bring
43:48the greatest blessing
43:49into my life.
43:50I'll have better outcomes.
43:52And because this is how
43:54we glorify God.
43:56As we conform to his word
43:57and his will,
43:58we become a witness
44:00to all of those around us
44:02as to what our God is like.
44:05They see our good works,
44:06they glorify our Father
44:08which is in heaven.
44:09So,
44:10yeah,
44:10thanks for that note
44:11of revival,
44:12Lloyd,
44:12and seeing the big picture here
44:14and the overall sweep
44:16and scope
44:16of what our passage
44:18is encouraging us to do.
44:20And that's read the word of God
44:21and draw near
44:22to the God of the word.
44:25Great comment,
44:25Lloyd.
44:26Thank you for that.
44:27All right,
44:27any other comments?
44:28Please come now.
44:30WB7VZL.
44:31Roger,
44:32please go ahead.
44:33You know,
44:33as we've been talking
44:34about this chapter,
44:37about God's word
44:38and the God of the word,
44:41I couldn't help but think
44:43of people like
44:45William Tyndall
44:47and Wycliffe and Martin Luther.
44:52When they read this
44:56in the original languages
44:58and the Spirit of God
45:00just stirred in their hearts
45:03and God used their talent
45:05to put the word of God
45:08into the common vernacular,
45:11it just is thrilling
45:13to think about
45:14how gracious God was
45:17to preserve their lives,
45:20to create circumstances
45:21in which they had
45:23precious islands of time
45:26to do that concentrated work,
45:29in some cases,
45:30a team.
45:31You know,
45:32I'm thinking of
45:32even the King James Bible,
45:34the team
45:35that was brought forth
45:36to do that.
45:37that's probably,
45:39well,
45:39we've all reaped
45:41the benefit of that
45:43and the resources
45:44that it took to do that.
45:45And I'm thinking that
45:47as these men
45:48read Psalm 119,
45:50even translating that,
45:52they must have been thrilled
45:53to share that
45:55with the common people
45:58so that they could share
46:00the glories
46:01of the word of God
46:03and the God of the word.
46:07Roger,
46:07a great comment.
46:08Thank you for that.
46:10WB7MX here.
46:12Yes,
46:13the sacrifice
46:14these men made
46:15and the God
46:17who raised these men up
46:18so that we could have
46:20Bibles in our own language.
46:22You know,
46:23the reason why
46:23they call the Dark Ages
46:24the Dark Ages
46:25is because
46:27during that period
46:28in history,
46:29people didn't have access
46:30to their own Bibles.
46:32You know,
46:33most folks
46:34either couldn't read
46:35or they couldn't afford
46:37a handwritten copy
46:38of the Scriptures.
46:40And that was the beauty
46:41of the Gutenberg
46:42printing press.
46:43I think around 1453,
46:45they started producing
46:46Bibles.
46:48And then we had,
46:49as you well said,
46:50men like Tyndale
46:50and Wycliffe
46:51and Luther and others
46:53who translated
46:55the original languages,
46:56Greek and Hebrew,
46:57into English
46:59or German
47:00or French
47:01or whatever
47:02the language
47:02of the people was.
47:04And, you know,
47:05we have these Bibles
47:06and we need to see
47:07how precious they are
47:08because of what it cost
47:10people to get them
47:12to us.
47:13But we tend to just
47:14assume that
47:15past history
47:16was like our
47:17present circumstance
47:18and it wasn't at all.
47:20So praise the Lord
47:21for these men
47:22who sacrificed
47:23even their lives
47:24as martyrs
47:26in order to get
47:27the Word of God
47:28into the hands
47:28of the people of God
47:29in the language
47:30that they could understand.
47:32And so, yes,
47:33as they translated this,
47:34how thrilling
47:35it must have been
47:36that here we are
47:37bringing the Word of God
47:39to the people
47:40and this psalm
47:40is telling us
47:41that doing that
47:43is the very best thing
47:44we could be doing.
47:45All right,
47:46we are out of time.
47:47It is time for us
47:48to go to prayer.
47:50Appreciate all of you
47:51and your comments,
47:52everyone who checked in
47:53and everyone who commented.
47:55And are there any
47:57final prayer requests
47:58before we go to prayer?
47:59Please come down
47:59with your call sign.
48:07All right,
48:07well, let's go to prayer then.
48:08Well, kind and gracious Father,
48:10we thank you so much
48:11for Psalm 119
48:12and for the encouragement
48:14it's been to us.
48:16And Father,
48:16we kind of hate
48:17to leave this psalm.
48:19We look back at it
48:20with grateful eyes
48:23and hearts
48:25as we realize
48:26how much of our own
48:27Christian experience
48:28has been echoed
48:30in the words
48:31of the psalmist.
48:33And Lord,
48:34we pray that we would
48:35be people of the Word,
48:36that we would meditate
48:37in it day and night
48:39and then that it would
48:40be engrafted
48:41into our souls
48:42and then that we would
48:43be doers of the Word
48:44and not hearers only.
48:46And Father,
48:47help us then
48:48to be wise
48:50and discerning
48:50about false teachings
48:52and false teachers
48:53and recognize
48:55that every teaching
48:57must be put to the test
48:59of the ultimate authority,
49:01which is the Word of God.
49:03And so Father,
49:04we just cry unto you
49:06to give us understanding
49:08according to your Word.
49:11And now Father,
49:12we want to bring before you
49:14the needs of our group here.
49:15Father,
49:16we just want to praise you
49:17for the answer to prayer
49:19for Roger WB7VZL
49:21that Autumn obtained
49:23a new place to live.
49:25And Lord,
49:25we just pray
49:26that that would work out
49:27really well for her,
49:29that she would get along
49:30well with her roommate.
49:31And Lord,
49:32we just ask
49:32that you would be pleased
49:33to cause her
49:36to understand the Scriptures,
49:38be turned away
49:39from false teaching
49:40and false teachers.
49:41And Lord,
49:42we pray for her salvation,
49:43that she would come
49:44to a true understanding
49:45of repentance of sin
49:47and faith in Jesus alone
49:50as her Savior from sin.
49:53Father,
49:53we just pray
49:54that she would be responsible
49:55in her independence
49:56and that, Lord,
49:58she would make good choices.
50:00Father,
50:01we just want to pray today
50:02for our brother Mark,
50:03KJ7PVT,
50:05and his unspoken prayer request.
50:07Father,
50:07you know what that is.
50:08And Lord,
50:09we pray that you would
50:10meet the needs
50:10that are represented
50:11in that request.
50:13And Lord,
50:13show yourself strong
50:14on behalf of Mark
50:16and meet the need
50:17that he has in his life.
50:19Father,
50:20we just want to pray today
50:21for Eric,
50:21KJ7ES,
50:23who's not feeling well.
50:24Lord,
50:24I pray for his healing,
50:25pray for his recovery,
50:26pray for his strength.
50:28Lord,
50:29just pray that
50:31the men who come
50:33and tear up
50:35and rebuild my house
50:36will do a good job.
50:37And Lord,

62:22All right,
62:22this is WB7MX,
62:23Net Control
62:24for the West Coast
62:25Bible Study.
62:26I want to thank
62:26all the stations
62:27who checked in
62:27this morning
62:28as well as
62:28those who stood
62:29by to give us
62:30a clear operating
62:31frequency.
62:33We meet here
62:33seven days a week
62:34at 6 a.m.
62:36in order to read
62:36the scriptures,
62:37understand their meaning,
62:39message,
62:39and application,
62:40and then pray
62:41for grace and mercy
62:42to be able to live
62:43out what we learned
62:44and for God
62:45to meet the needs
62:46in our circle
62:46of fellowship.
62:48I'll be returning
62:48this frequency now
62:49to regular amateur use.
62:51This is WB7MX.

62:56Will,
62:57KM5F,
62:57go ahead.
62:58Yeah,
62:59I tried to send you
63:00a link to a table
63:01that I had seen
63:02about the Hebrew alphabet.
63:06So I sent you a text
63:07that says,
63:08search for Hebrew
63:09alphabet charts.
63:10A place that you might
63:12look is in the
63:13ancient Hebrew
63:14research center.
63:15There's a chart there
63:16that deals with
63:17the evolution
63:18from pictograph
63:19to Greek.
63:20The other thing
63:21that I learned
63:22from all this
63:22is that each letter
63:24in the Greek alphabet
63:25also is a number
63:27as well as a letter.
63:30So they have
63:30numerical values.
63:32KM5F?
63:34Yeah,
63:34thank you for that,
63:35Will.
63:35I will be looking
63:36for that link
63:37and I will check
63:39that reference.
63:42Thank you for doing that.
63:43All right,

63:51I tried to send a link
63:52and I couldn't get
63:53the link to send
63:54so I just sent you
63:54a text string
63:56that says,

63:57alphabet charts.
